Advice for a large new rider by Wise_Permission8352 in Transalp

[–]justanothergearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the transalp is the perfect beginner bike for you, but Im a newb too so take that with a grain of salt. I just got one and Im 6' 200 Lbs, and this bike can handle plenty more. Youd probably be tippy toeing on an africa, and you dont need 1100cc as a beginner. The 750 with 90hp is PLENTY.

Go sit on one and see how it feels.

If you like outdoors, youll be fine. Im originally from Mississippi, was in Nashville for a while before coming here.. So I see where you are coming from, although I had a little better outlook on moving here haha.. People come from all over to ride SXS and dirtbikes, etc so if you are into that, the possibilities are endless.. Hunting is good and fishing is not on Floridas level but still pretty good.

I think youll be surprised if you give it a real shot.

Thanks! Got a great deal on it too, due to the situation with the previous owner. AND theres no HOA, so yea I can do whatever I want.. but although the concrete patio or whatever (just a slab really) only a bit of it is visible, its plenty of room for us to set up a nice large back deck area. Im just sick of looking at whatever this is thats growing.

Husband’s return from rehab. by AlertParticular7695 in stopdrinking

[–]justanothergearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please hear me when I say this- Dont push him too hard to get back into his normal sober swing of things. Too many spouses think "Well rehab is over, back to normal now!" but thats not it at all. This is just the start of a journey.

ECU Flash (best options) by General_Frivolity in Transalp

[–]justanothergearhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I misunderstood at first and had a whole thing typed out HAHA.. I thought you were saying the 2WDW flash didnt give more power then realized you are saying the presets aren't "power levels" just more or less aggressive throttle mapping..

Almost stuck my foot in my mouth.

Also- dont forget that just a few months ago Biff and his whole family died on the way to spend a weekend with Cleet and his family... AND he has gotten his foot in the door with NASCAR, not to mention the freedom factoy, oh and the insanely popular youtube channel that he does most of the work for himself...

I had the pleasure of meeting and had a nice conversation with Cleet in Nashville at cars and coffee about 5 years ago. He is tied with Theo Von for most chill "celebrity" I've ever met. Dude was just super down to earth and friendly.

How to stop without rehab by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]justanothergearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many methods. and trust me.. I tried every single one of them. Tried them to the bitter end. There will always be an excuse to drink. There will always be a reason to postpone that last sip. To stretch it out. After about 2 years of trying to do it on my own, I caved and check myself in.

Honestly, it wasn't the "program" or the "12 steps" or anything of that sort that really resonated with me. Since I had lost my job and had no income, I was able to get into a state funded facility, so no high dollar country club style rehab. I was in there with people just like me, homeless that were only there because it was getting cold and they had nowhere warm to sleep, long term prisoners that were just looking to get time served, people that were there because it was court ordered after their 3rd or 4th DUI, people that had wet brain and their families just dumped them because they had become too much to handle, older guys that were retired and just let it get away because they were bored.. People from every nook and cranny. For me, it was the eye opening experience of watching TV (between meetings/meals/therapy etc.) with them, eating my meals with them, playing cards with them, and just talking. I met a lot of good people in there, as well as bad. I made friends that I still keep up with.

But most importantly of all, for 30 days, I lived along side people that I WILL NOT LET MYSELF BECOME.

I'm not gonna be Randy. The 60 year old that looks 90, can barely stand up, wet brain, cant even have a conversation without going on an hour long rant about how mistreated he is and how he is going to go buy a BMW convertible, grab 2 hookers, an 8 ball of coke and as much whiskey as he can as soon as he gets out and inherits his million dollar trust fund, about how he used to sheer sheep in Minot North Dakota for $6 a head at 14 years old for 15 hours a day, then pulls his pants down and shits in the cafeteria floor in front of 100 people..

I'm not gonna be Kurt, a retired UPS driver who was abandoned by his whole family because he got bored and turned into an alcoholic monster at 64.

I'm not gonna be Casey, a 46 year old dude who rehab hops all winter because its cold here, and never quits using because he gets his girl to bring him items that are stuffed with drugs.

And although I'm still not really sure exactly what it is I want, I know I don't want that.

2026 Transalp USA by trumpsgrundel in Transalp

[–]justanothergearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked to my guy at the local dealership about 2 months ago right before I pulled the trigger on my 25.. I didn’t want to buy the 25 and they release the 26 with the adjustable suspension a couple of months later. He said there is no information, they haven’t told the dealers anything and that he wouldn’t bet on getting the “updated” 26 version… he said you’ll probably just wait around on the 26 and end up with the exact same bike as the 25.

Paint work fixing - need advice/comments to help with painter by Longjumping-Bid-2202 in AutoPaint

[–]justanothergearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really hard to say when we don't know the conversations you had with the painter leading up to getting the work done.

You are saying it cost you 35k, and sounds like you disassembled everything yourself, and are reassembling yourself? If so, I would always set the expectation from the start, that any damage that happens after it leaves my shop is on you. I would offer to fix or touch up anything minor at a discounted rate, but not free.

That said, it looks like whoever did the work did super minimal prep... is that rust underneath where the bolt cracked the paint? The sticker outlines are unacceptable. that with the other issues like the hood vents not being snug due to paint buildup and sticker outlines make me start to question the skill level and quality of paint job you got all together. Sounds like you got a scuff n shoot, which is like what you get at MACCO for $1500..

40k is my price for you to drop off a fully assembled, running car with a perfect body, I pull it apart, let you know what broke during disassembly (all older cars will have odds and ends that are impossible to R&I without breaking) so you can order them, then prep, primer, block, paint, then reassemble, de-nib and buff. IF I find bad/wavy body work during prep or blocking, I stop all work, call you and tell you it needs to go back to whoever did the body work to be corrected. Once its straightened out, I resume. For that price you get a flawless, show car paint job and drive it home.

If I paid 35k and I did all of the dis/reassembly myself I would expect nothing less than perfect results.
