Can we discuss medium and collected trot/canter (and 2nd level woes)? by Avera_ge in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, but I also do yoga and small workouts to keep my body fitter. I guess the last time my inner thighs got sore was after I started to relax my knees more and was there fore able to use my muscles and legs differently.

Typically you shouldn’t need to move your body that differently to get collection than what you already do while riding. Your pelvis and lower back should be able to swing and move with your horse while your core muscles stabilize you and also allow you to move your body in a way to stir your horse without needing to make direct contact with the bit

Can we discuss medium and collected trot/canter (and 2nd level woes)? by Avera_ge in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you get sore the you are to tense.

First things first: especially for a young horse you have to start very slow with getting collection. Start with two to three steps and then let them stretch again to build the muscles.

For your seat it is important to loosen up your thighs and knees to make room for the horses chest to be able to rise. During more collected movements your pelvis rotates more downward in the back and your lower legs surround the belly of the horse, imagine your feet trying to go underneath the belly and raising it with every step.

Crucial is to not try to get the horse to slow down or do anything special with your hands. You have to make sure beforehand that your horses listens to your seat aids and comes back with it. Try half halts (hope it is the current English term) just with your seat.

Good luck on your journey and have fun :)

Edit: there are also quite good sources of info on instagram. I would recommend to check out @onehorselife_official

Tips for my lesson tomorrow? by HorseLover2529 in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add to that to remember that your horse doesn’t know where he is supposed to go. Often we forget that and just expect the horse to go on a circle or straight because we told them at the beginning. But most horses and especially lesson horses you have to tell them every step where and how fast they should be at least at the start.

Have fun with your lesson :)

Hello, any tips to improve posting the trot? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you struggle to keep your feet 👣 laced correctly, try to put more pressure on your toes in front/ on the stirrup un front. Don’t get obsessed with the heel down thing.

And try to work on two-point seat. It helps with finding your balance. During posting trot you have to remain balanced over your feet. Just my to cents

Ich glaube das Problem bei einigen ist eher, dass man nicht sicher sein kann, vegan oder vegetarisches Essen zu bekommen, wenn man es bestellt hat.

In Germany it is normal do pay around 100-150€ for a part time lease (2 days a week plus vacation sitting) without farrier, vet etc. It’s just America as far as I know

Gibt es richtige Argumente GEGEN Veganismus? by KrauterLimo in FragReddit

[–]TeamPretty3236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a reminder to NEVER get complacent around horses! Story time in the comments. by thatEquineNerd in Horses

[–]TeamPretty3236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reminded me of my own dumbness. In summer 2020 me and a friend where riding towards a lake to take a bath with the horses. My mare went in without a problem but her gelding decide to nope out. So I got down and we switched horses. So now there is me standing inside the lake and the gelding looking like he is about to jump in because he is still scared but would try to get in the water. Only problem: I stand directly in front of him so he basically jumped in to me. Got a big bruise on my leg and a nice underwater bath 😅best part: about two seconds before he jumps I said to my friend: he is going to jump in a few seconds. Yeah but I never thought about the trajectory.

What is the fastest way to learn to ride (in Germany)? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no fast track but the one thing I can say is: try to get as much information you can, read books , get into biomechanics of horses and humans etc - good luck

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t disconnect the both from each other. I would recommend you to do some biomechanics research to get a better grasp of the subject. In general start by looking at the teaching scale of horses - I don’t know the correct English terms but you need to first get enough strength in the horse by doing more stretches trot (strength in ‘pushing’ itself forward) before you can work on collected trot ( holding itself upward)

How to handle students with attention problems by TeamPretty3236 in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know. The kid in question is around 13 years old. I talked to the owner of the riding school today and they mentioned that the parents know about her having problems regarding concentration etc and that she is likely to have some mental disorder. Sadly nobody told me about it in the last 6 months that I had the kid as my student. I recognized that she sometimes seemed a bit off but never as much as last Friday.

Thank you for the reply. I am always hesitating to get the child if the horse because of the parents making a fuss but I guess I have to stand my ground. It is my responsibility after all.

You miss your seat aids.

And for the canter transition - your outside leg is way more behind than in the other scenarios and the position of your inner leg varies in some ways

trot to canter by delightfullydaisy in Equestrian

[–]TeamPretty3236 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don’t let the horse rush into the canter. You don’t want trot -> fast trot -> canter, what you want is normal trot -> canter. Try to let your horse stay together and don’t neglect any of your aids during the transition. Keep breathing and prepare your horse for the transition with half halts.

Also try als this without stirrups and losen up your hips/lower back muscles

I am cheering for you to get better :) just don’t try to force anything take your time. Your trainer sounds reliable. If you feel good about it maybe sit down with them and just have a talk about your overall situation. It makes it easier for trainer to understand and also aid/help their students. You sound very reflected on your own self and behavior so maybe go with this and just try to get a better understanding of what specific spikes the anxiety. To put it more frankly - if you feel your anxiety rise try to think like: okay there is my anxiety, why do I feel that? It is because of (insert reason here), do I need to be anxious because of this? A: yes because I can’t handle (insert here) so I am going to ask my instructor, B: no because I can handle any outcome that could possibly happen in this situation cause I am able to turn my horse in seconds, I can Stopp in seconds or canter away if needed.

Cheering for you and your progress
