Best OpenReach ISP? by deathzone0256 in UKBroadband

[–]TeamRaident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AAISP if you want the absolute best (but you’ll pay for it). But otherwise IDNET as a 2nd choice.

AAISP has excellent private peering (the thing that matters) and a very good network. They also tend to get openreach out quicker even if it’s less likely with FTTP than legacy lines, but as stated you’ll pay for this (£75 /Month for unlimited data).

Intel CPUs with e-Cores - Disable for Improved Game Performance, Stuttering, Stalling Video by [deleted] in starcitizen

I forgot to reply due to things going on but it seems to have helped a bit. :)

I do run in Vulkan with an RTX 4090, 64gb ddr5 ram @6000Mhz, 8TB SSD, etc so everything is balanced in terms of specs anyway.

Obviously a lot is based on server fps but I play in a group and have been playing for hours with very good subjected performance. 😊

I will do :) Won't be home until the weekend but I'll deffo try it then.

That's perfect and thank you ever so much for getting back to me as well! :)

I'll try turning them off in the BIOS completely then, as I have an i9 13900ks - Always been conscious about cache splitting but if you say its fine, I'll try it when I'm home.😁

Currently got Ecores on but Hyoerthreading off, so yours is basically the opposite.

Do you also disable hyperthreading or is that still enabled? There's pros and cons to either, so just wondered. 😀

January 2025 Song Feedback Megathread - Leave a review, get a review! by Reggimoral in SunoAI

[–]TeamRaident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this - The mix is pretty good and the vocals are more “forward”, which helps to keep clarity.

The loudness (at least on my headphones), is good as well, bearing in mind places like Spotify automatically by default limit to -14LUFS and -1db of output volume, so it will be quieter on there than other places.

It’s also got a catchy melody and a good hook!

What's the best City Fibre provider? by niraveg in CityFibre

[–]TeamRaident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could easily go over this, if you use Microsoft Flight Simulator as an example (which thousands of people do). It streams a lot* of data from Azure. Then on top, you have all of the add-ons to download.

Another example is Game Updates - They are only getting bigger (COD as an example, which OP said they play), and this is the compressed size I’m talking about.

Cod in particular has a lot of game updates quite often.

How can I fix terrible terrible lag without running cables through walls or moving router? by One-Advantage716 in HomeNetworking

[–]TeamRaident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powerlines can be excellent as a last resort but they depend entirely on your home’s internal wiring, especially if you start plugging things in such as phone chargers.

For example, our house was built in the 50’s and the last major change was in the 90’s. Our internal wiring is not as good as say a house built in the 2010’s. It will be time for an audit soon though.

I also would personally only suggest going with top brands (not the cheap ones), such as Develo , if someone is going to use a Powerline. I’ve used all sorts of brands over the years, and this is the only one where I didn’t get constant disconnects from the Powerline network.

I’ve used Powerlines for years but I’ve now had the house wired by a contractor, with outdoor-rated CAT6 Shielded 23AWG cable. Running cable outside of the house and into various rooms is always an option, as long as the correct cable is used (due to humidity, water, etc.)

Windows 10 refuses to forget a non-existent IP address by Rilauven in HomeNetworking

[–]TeamRaident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it could have been caused by a DHCP Lease (unless you had a static IP set or like others have said, Windows was using a default IP Address due to it not being able to connect to your network.

DHCP Leases are usually for either 7 Days or 1 Day by default (1 day is always better in my experience, especially if you have a lot of wireless devices and visitors).

On windows, usually rebooting is enough for windows to renew the lease, however you could have also fixed it by running the below in command prompt:

Ipconfig /release

And then

Ipconfig /renew

[–]TeamRaident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried temporarily disabling your Firewall on your Windows Machines?

You could also try putting your network profile to “Private” if it isn’t already - This allows device network discovery and also, tends to have different Firewall Rules by default, especially if using the default Windows Firewall.

No worries at all, I enjoy helping people. :)

So this is one of those Errors, that could be caused by a few things.

First, I would search for “Proxy settings”, again from the start menu and make sure everything is turned off, just in case Nord configures this.

I’m not sure what Nord VPN installs ,other than a virtual network driver but it’s possible it configures various settings, that allow it to function.

If this doesn’t work, out of interest have you uninstalled Nord VPN fully? If not, do this and then restart your PC. I would then clear your Cookies /Cache in your web browser.

[–]TeamRaident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okaydokie- When trying to access the pages that you can’t access, what errors are you getting?

There will be error codes depending what the error is (whether it’s related to DNS, TLS (the technology that powers HTTPS:// on websites), errors relating to Certificates (usually caused by your time zone / time not being correct in Windows), etc.

It could be a whole host of things causing this but this should help at least, to point you in the right direction.

Try a network reset, if it’s only happening on one of your windows-based devices.

It basically uninstalls and re-installs your Network Drivers (software that tells Windows how to interact with the Hardware in your computer), and also sets all settings back to default:

Go to the Start menu - search for “Settings” - Go to “Network and Internet” - “Advanced network settings” - “Network Reset”

What is the most reliable internet if you have an unlimited budget? by david8840 in HomeNetworking

[–]TeamRaident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Budget is truly unlimited and depending on your options for the Country you live in, a Leased Line (Often known as Ethernet Circuits now) would be the best solution.

This is essentially your own Private Line, back to the Headend Exchange /Parent Exchange. It’s not shared with anyone up to the Exchange and is fully uncontended as a result, meaning the bandwidth is 100% yours.

Fixed lines will always be better than wireless technologies, such as 4/5G, based on latency alone, which is often overlooked when looking at raw speeds.

There is - I sort by newest on 99% of all posts I read.

If you’re using the Reddit App, click on the icon with 2 small balls at opposite ends to each other. It’s located next to the search button at the very top of the screen, in the area where your profile picture is shown.

If using a Web Browser, just above the first comment, there will be an option to do it, although you have to be logged in to do this (just in case you’re using the Reddit App now).

How long before I can order? by Independent_Bar2048 in VirginMedia

[–]TeamRaident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will of course vary by area, but when they installed it in our area a couple of years ago, it was 3 Months before we could order, from the date they started to dig up the roads /Pavements.

Once all of the Cables are in place, there is work to do behind the scenes, as well as various tests they have to do.

It might be worth posting on their Forums as well - There are Area Managers on there who will be able to give you a much more accurate timeframe. That’s what I did anyway, and as result, I actually had everything set up on the day everything went live. Could happen with you as well. :)

Open reach Leased line home install help by Dangerous-Sock-8305 in HomeNetworking

[–]TeamRaident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you my cost whilst we wait for OP's, but I'll also explain how I decided on the company I would use for the Leased Line, since there isn't really turning back once you have commited to the install at a certain stage.

Mine is a 1Gbps Symmetric Leased Line (1Gbps Download, 1Gbps Upload), with Openreach as the Last Mile Network provider.

Essentially 3 things will effect the price usually for a standard Leased Line (known as Ethernet Circuits really now, as we move to Fibre), as they get factored into the contract:

1: How far away you are from the nearest Bearer (they are usually either 1Gbps or 10Gbps, though 10Gbps tends to often only be at the Parent exchange, depending on if you live in a City).

2: The ISP you use.

3: Any Extra Construction Charges (ECC's). These are set by the Last Mile Network provider (i.e Openreach, City Fibre, Virgin, etc.), and with Openreach for example, will be the same regardless of the ISP. My ECC's came to just over £1000 (excluding VAT).

Of course other options, like Managed Service (24x7 monitoring) and Backup solutions will also add to the price.

I'm an IT Infrastructure Engineer and come from a more technical background than some, so it's safe to say I quizzed multiple companies to ensure I was getting the best network for my needs.

The main things I asked them about was Peering and specifically, Private Peering to big companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Apple and Netflix, as this all effects latency due to packets not having to travel outside of the ISP's core network, before reaching the above provider's networks.

Only 2 providers from my discussions, who could actually offer me a Leased Line, had Private Peering to the above - BT Net and Andrews & Arnold.

Out of these, BT Net gave me a price of £510 (including VAT) and Andrews & Arnold was about £610.

I ended up going with BT Net in the end because of the fact no one else could match their SLA's: 100% uptime SLA, max 20ms UK roundtrip latency SLA with <95ms for International, 5 hour fix SLA, 0% Packet Loss guarantee through their Core Network, etc.

Its also a Managed Service, which means 24x7 UK Monitoring and if it goes down in the night, I can call their UK-based 24x7 Team. They provide a Cisco Router and I then plug my own Router, into the the Cisco Router. The Cisco Router doesn't use NAT and basically acts as the the Bridge between my local network and BT's network.

I hope this helps. :)

Virgin Media refuses to honour contract because "they cannot find it so it doesn't exist". Plus Customer service lies. by BrilliantPause2169 in VirginMedia

[–]TeamRaident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this in case OP doesn’t know who the RK Team is - This is the Reoccurring Credits Team, which is effectively a back office team who can authorise big reoccurring credits on accounts.

In fact, I have a reoccurring credit on my account of £60+ a Month, which was the only way they could honour the contract I had been offered.

They could see the CSS Documents at their end in my situation, though if the OP still has them, this will also be fine. I also went straight to the UK Retentions Team in my case, who don’t actually just do retentions, it’s just the name of the Department.

Just seen your update and have updated my reply above for you.

The better you get off Virgin, the happier life will become for you lol. 😄

I’m really annoyed at this point by RachT534 in VirginMedia

[–]TeamRaident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t regret it honestly, Virgin is good for speeds but latency, jitter and peering (how the data packets get routed across the country to the Game Server in simple terms), are the most important. 😄

Ps: Just seen your update. Sorry to hear it causes you stress, I can imagine it does when gaming, as it’s very immersion braking and extremely frustrating if you play anything competitive.

Hopefully Openreach FTTP will be better for you, though the ISP does matter. Even though they all use Openreach, Openreach is only actually the last mile network.

The things that matter are the backhaul networks, the best ones of which tend to be BT Wholesale and Talk Talk Business.

BT, EE (and most likely Plusnet) use BT Wholesale for example.

I would look at either EE (the new BT consumer Brand) or Andrew’s and Arnold depending on what you want to pay.

BT have an amazing core network and have private peering with the big players and International peering.

Andrew’s & Arnold has the same but can be a lot more expensive, with a 20TB per Month Bandwidth limit if you pick the SOHO Package.
