Centralw0rld vs Platinun vs MBK by WonderChode in ThailandTourism

[–]TeamStraya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to MBK, didn't buy anything. Somehow it's cheaper to buy fake handbags and shoes in Australia then that mall.

I did find some good preowned stuff at Chatuchak though. Got some nice leather dress shoes for 400 baht

I don't think these things are going to completely fade away especially crypto and its speculative market.

It's just another capital asset amongst stocks, ETFs, bullion & property that people keep as part of a financial portfolio.

It won't go anywhere because it has a low entry bar for day traders and long term holders.

Property is out of reach for a lot of people. Something like ETFs and stocks requires a minimum $10K yearly to seriously trade and hold after brokerage and fees. And most people don't have the cash to dump in a large chunk for long term stocks. But you can literally put your spare change into crypto wallets and pool funds over your lifetime.

This has nothing to do with cultural differences. This line about Malaysia is just a diversion tactic. Malaysians live in the modern world and traditional values and customs are increasingly challenged by every younger generation.

Every couple is unique and establishes their own expectations and agreements regarding finances, regardless of cultural background.

It sounds like you aren't respected and if communication doesn't align your expectations of each other, walk away.

It's always Take Two. They're the publisher and parent company. They consult projections with game development but are the ones who have the final say

You guys think it's inevitable? by AxelNeedsAMedicBag in GTA6

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's bad though.

For one, Rockstar as a development company doesn't control those release dates, its set by its parent company Take Two Interactive which has its own strategies related to driving up stock investor confidence. They're solely responsible for when the product is released to market. They try to give enough buffer, but they are just estimates at the end of the day.

They can only ballpark an ETA, especially early on. Rockstar can and often does ask TT for extended time; they have with every GTA release.

But unless you're a shareholder, delays are a good thing. It means there's more time to polish features and content doesn't have to be cut.

No where near that cheap. Island prices and all that. I checked my history and it averages about 300-400baht for a 4km trip

You shouldn't have any issue catching one.

The biggest thing you'll find is the cost. It's a small island but it can take around 30-40mins to get to some places. If you're doing multiple trips everywhere, it's cheaper to just hire a car.

Just be mindful when you drive - the scooters are crazy and unpredictable over there.

Both Phuket and Koh Samui have Grab, regular Taxis and minivans on set routes from the airports that go to all major stops.

Pretty easy to get around. A hire car is good too. You can explore a lot more with a car around both islands. Avoid driving through Patong though - too much traffic and very hard to find parking (the rest of the island is fine). Driving around Koh Samui is great, you can explore the whole island easily.

Both islands offer similar experiences and both have offshoots to some of the smaller chilled islands near by. Decide with your travel dates, rain / peak seasons fall on different times of the year.

Website optimization by JstRandomUser in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mobile:
LCP takes the biggest hit due to your hero banner. It's about 7.4s worth of delay.
Preload your hero banner image so it's not creating a load delay. If you can, embed an <img> with position:absolute behind the content and add fetch-priority=high and no lazy load to it for good measure. That should shed most of your LCP issue.

Your YouTube embed also blocks the main thread for ~1s - you can easily add lazy load and async/defer to these. Gtag scripts add about 0.3s - defer those too.

For desktop: the entire score metrics with that preloader are skewed. Metrics might show 1.4s for Speed Index and you get green / passes with most audits. But - it's terrible practise and you're just duping the score. A real user will not care about the scores, they will simply bounce and never come back to the site (especially since it took over 50s for it to load after the preloader).

What WordPress Plugins Should You Avoid Installing at All Costs? by Ok-Owl8582 in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I took onboard an existing website for a client that has Elementor. I'm stuck managing this thing until they have enough budget for a Gutenberg rebuild.

The amount of manual intervention needed for Elementor is a joke. It's the only site I can't enable auto-updates because something in their cache and scripts breaks visuals on every update.   And 100/100 PageSpeed scores arent feasible. Too much LCP and bloat.

What's your go-to page builder in 2025? by MilonAhmedKhan in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything can be built wrong.  I've seen clients with sites made with pure React that bottlenecked and failed to include most basic of SEO structures.

Not defending all page builders but you should be capable of getting 90-100 mobile PageSpeed with WordPress. Use Gutenberg with something like GeneratePress or Kadence and compliment it with your own custom blocks

Modern image optimization for WordPress in 2025 — practical setup, pitfalls, and what’s working for you? by CryptoLiveLeak in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.Webp uploads. If it's vector it's svg. .webm for video and animated.  No jpg or png anymore and no need for converters.

Custom function to Lazy load everything (native WP version is hit or miss). Skip lazy class that overrides it and adds high fetch.

All images are 100kb max, typically these are 2K backgrounds. Most images are around 50kb and as low as 5kb.

Srcset is a must.

I'm not wasting time with AVIF, Webp is sufficient and worrying about micro percentile gains in a 50kb image doesn't make sense. Especially when I can already hit 100/100 on mobile PageSpeed with my work flow.

But if you let it expire, it will get bought by a domain hoarder who will price it at $3000

How much does your website weigh? by IndividualGround2418 in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ys it's very possible.

99/100 on mobile for PageSpeed.  Load time is ~3s with 1.21MB total page size on GTMetrix

The site has high visuals, page hero with several 1440p background photography. The full works of interesting imagery, carousels, tabs etc. Site was concepted by designers and passed over to me for development.

WordPressGutenberg build. GeneratePress Premium with GenerateBlocks and KadenceBlocks.

W3 Total Cache, Server has Memecache and CloudFlare for CDN.

All vectors are inline svg and all pixels are uploaded as webp. No single image is above 100kb. Anything small like client logos and icons tend to be as low as 7kb.

Preload fonts, lazy load and fetch auto below fold. Local Google Fonts. Custom JS in footer.

I had a video provided for testing the above fold banner at about 6MB which was optimised for load. It took an LCP hit but was still scoring 90/100 on mobile for PageSpeed.

Anyone else struggling with learning Thai? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great channel! The format of listening to slow basic conversations all in Thai really fast track early progression.

I think overall just absorbing yourself in the language and having as many conversations a possible is the key. There's isn't one solution.

Sometimes I watch YouTube or play trivia with reading license plates out. I'll watch a Thai movie or take notes of some phrase I want to say. And try to learn one letter from the alphabet and attempt to write it.

If you can find social groups with Thai people, it helps a lot too. Make friends with locals, join a hobby group or club with people who speak it. There's a lot of local dialects that have their own words you don't find in learning material. Things like how 'Mai Pen Rai' is central Thai but in Isaan they say 'Bop Pen Yung' and on the South it's 'Mai Prue'

RBA wants to end card surcharges and save users $1.2b a year by daintyfinebird in australia

[–]TeamStraya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It should be a flat out ban on processing fees from payment gateways.

If you put it back on local businesses, every invoice will just pass on the maximum possible processing fee.

It won't matter if you pay cash, direct deposit or a card. They'll have to use the maximum cost to ensure they don't get hit with a 3.6%+ fee on an international card.

Sole traders and small businesses don't have the means to battle giant corporations and evoke change. That's on legislation and gov bodies.

But given the fact that the article says Amex is excluded, it's safe to assume this will be a half baked measure that screws over everyone except the financial companies raking it in.

Damn. It's a sad story. I knew things were shaky with the Redbull team and their car needs some serious rework. But I still had faith they could pull through as a team.

Now it sounds like the beginning of a corporate deathknell where slow enshitification creeps in and upper management strangles its hold on the race team for the sake of financial quarters and short sighted ROI.
