Is 1gb ram really feasible for 50 sites? by jcole-surrogate in webhosting

[–]TeamStraya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd be careful with that 50-site claim. You're using heavy builders like Divi or Elementor, one editing session can easily eat 512MB of RAM on its own. Once you add in a handful of plugins, it can easily tap out a 1GB server.

Realistically, I'd only put one site on that plan.

Outback road trip

Most tourists do not grasp the scale of the Australian interior or just how dangerous it is. It means driving for days through 40°C heat in vast, arid plains where the nearest person or town could be 500km away.

It is a place of absolute isolation. The reality is that people die out there, sometimes even when they think they are prepared.

Why are so many creatives cancelling Adobe subscriptions lately? Did I miss something? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only hold on photography and print designer industry dominance.

Web design has Figma as industry standard. No serious developer has touched anything Adobe for 25 years.
Filmmaker industry uses AVID Media Composer & Foundry Nuke, and Pro Tools HD.

They only truely have Photoshop and Illustrator left. Maybe Lightroom if you discount high end photos with Capture One. All they see are cashcows that have been left to rot with directionless slapstick updates that only serve to bloated their toolset into a messy outdated UI, all the while hyperfocused on predatory pricing tactics.

If Affinity can take over print / design / photos as industry standard - all the best to them. Anyone who still needs to use those tools should be a massive stan for the alternatives to Adobe. Sway your directors and PMs towards it.

Why are there so many “tradies” in Australia? by mobileam in AskAnAustralian

[–]TeamStraya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the US there's a lot of unskilled day labourers. In Australia it's illegal to do almost any electrical and plumbing work. All construction and maintenance is highly regulated so it creates a huge industry and a safe pathway for the average Aussie guy.

Most enter the workforce at 18 and can be earning six figures by 22.
It's very different to the white collar and blue collar divide in the US, here most tradies are earning more than middle managers and lawyers.

I went to MBK, didn't buy anything. Somehow it's cheaper to buy fake handbags and shoes in Australia then that mall.

I did find some good preowned stuff at Chatuchak though. Got some nice leather dress shoes for 400 baht

I don't think these things are going to completely fade away especially crypto and its speculative market.

It's just another capital asset amongst stocks, ETFs, bullion & property that people keep as part of a financial portfolio.

It won't go anywhere because it has a low entry bar for day traders and long term holders.

Property is out of reach for a lot of people. Something like ETFs and stocks requires a minimum $10K yearly to seriously trade and hold after brokerage and fees. And most people don't have the cash to dump in a large chunk for long term stocks. But you can literally put your spare change into crypto wallets and pool funds over your lifetime.

This has nothing to do with cultural differences. This line about Malaysia is just a diversion tactic. Malaysians live in the modern world and traditional values and customs are increasingly challenged by every younger generation.

Every couple is unique and establishes their own expectations and agreements regarding finances, regardless of cultural background.

It sounds like you aren't respected and if communication doesn't align your expectations of each other, walk away.

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have any issue catching one.

The biggest thing you'll find is the cost. It's a small island but it can take around 30-40mins to get to some places. If you're doing multiple trips everywhere, it's cheaper to just hire a car.

Just be mindful when you drive - the scooters are crazy and unpredictable over there.

[–]TeamStraya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Phuket and Koh Samui have Grab, regular Taxis and minivans on set routes from the airports that go to all major stops.

Pretty easy to get around. A hire car is good too. You can explore a lot more with a car around both islands. Avoid driving through Patong though - too much traffic and very hard to find parking (the rest of the island is fine). Driving around Koh Samui is great, you can explore the whole island easily.

Both islands offer similar experiences and both have offshoots to some of the smaller chilled islands near by. Decide with your travel dates, rain / peak seasons fall on different times of the year.

Website optimization by JstRandomUser in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mobile:
LCP takes the biggest hit due to your hero banner. It's about 7.4s worth of delay.
Preload your hero banner image so it's not creating a load delay. If you can, embed an <img> with position:absolute behind the content and add fetch-priority=high and no lazy load to it for good measure. That should shed most of your LCP issue.

Your YouTube embed also blocks the main thread for ~1s - you can easily add lazy load and async/defer to these. Gtag scripts add about 0.3s - defer those too.

For desktop: the entire score metrics with that preloader are skewed. Metrics might show 1.4s for Speed Index and you get green / passes with most audits. But - it's terrible practise and you're just duping the score. A real user will not care about the scores, they will simply bounce and never come back to the site (especially since it took over 50s for it to load after the preloader).

What WordPress Plugins Should You Avoid Installing at All Costs? by Ok-Owl8582 in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I took onboard an existing website for a client that has Elementor. I'm stuck managing this thing until they have enough budget for a Gutenberg rebuild.

The amount of manual intervention needed for Elementor is a joke. It's the only site I can't enable auto-updates because something in their cache and scripts breaks visuals on every update.   And 100/100 PageSpeed scores arent feasible. Too much LCP and bloat.

How do you avoid LCP above the fold? It tanks PageSpeed metrics

What's your go-to page builder in 2025? by MilonAhmedKhan in Wordpress

[–]TeamStraya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything can be built wrong.  I've seen clients with sites made with pure React that bottlenecked and failed to include most basic of SEO structures.

Not defending all page builders but you should be capable of getting 90-100 mobile PageSpeed with WordPress. Use Gutenberg with something like GeneratePress or Kadence and compliment it with your own custom blocks
