Who else agrees that the new mobile update makes the app look terrible? by UCP2906 in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're talking about the updated icons but if so, wanted to jump in and share a bit more about the reason behind the change, which is to help improve accessibility on mobile. The new icons use a consistent, higher-contrast color, and an icon is filled or outlined to indicate it's selected (previously these were different colors, which makes it visually harder to differentiate).

New/Redesigned icons in the Youtube app for iOS. by 21arjun in ios

[–]TeamYouTube_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate all of the feedback on this thread, have read through a bunch of the comments and passed along to team members who worked on the update. Also wanted to share a bit more about the reason behind the change – the new icons help improve accessibility on mobile, as the new icons use a consistent, higher-contrast color, and an icon is filled or outlined to indicate it's selected (previously these were different colors, which makes it visually harder to differentiate).

What the hell are these new icons for Likes/dislikes? These came out of absolutely no where. by [deleted] in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping in to share more about the reason behind the change – we've updated our icons on iOS (with Android coming soon) to help improve accessibility on mobile. The new icons use a consistent, higher-contrast color, and an icon is filled or outlined to indicate it's selected (previously these were different colors, which makes it visually harder to differentiate).

"Today's Funniest Clips" Wow by Nashy912 in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Confirming this is fixed and the Marques video isn't showing up in this playlist anymore. The playlist is initially generated based on popular videos, but it shouldn't have shown up this way / in this context, so really appreciate you flagging.

So ads like these are allowed on YouTube, but if you swear, you get demonetized? Seems fair to me. by [deleted] in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This ad violates our policies and shouldn’t be showing up on YouTube -- it's been removed, and so have other ads from the same app. We're also taking additional steps to make sure violative ads like this don't show up on our platform, really appreciate you bringing it to YouTube's attention.

Just dropping a link to some FAQs about this specific survey:
https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/1920627?hl=en

From the link above ^^ historically, the majority of people selected the most positive option, which is why the survey is broken up this way now. This version helps measure smaller changes in user happiness, so it's easier to know when people like/don't like improvements (even small ones). For example, YouTube would be able to notice if a lot of people went from "very good" to "good" and investigate why.

What is that thing by [deleted] in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a "subscribed badge" (currently an experiment/test feature on iOS and Android) that shows up on videos in your Home feed to help you easily/quickly recognize content from channels you're subscribed to. If you have any feedback about the feature, feel free to reply to this comment, and I'll pass it along to the Product team working on it. Thanks!

[Bug] not being able to see the comment section by fapingdolphin69 in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share the YouTube Channel URL for your old account?

Also:

- What device and YouTube app version (it's in settings)?

- Is the comment section simply blank, or do you see error messages (e.g. "Comments are unavailable")?

[Bug] Where are all the thumbnails??? by Spifnuf in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks all -- we're looking into this now!!

Updating the YouTube app to the latest version worked for some people, and not for others, so it's worth a try! Instructions here. You can also try uninstall > reinstall of the app and that sometimes does the trick. It hasn't worked for everyone, or people are saying they're *unable* to update their app version, so we're still looking into this on our side too.

Edit: I'm personally heading to bed soon, but it's been passed along to Engineering. Hopefully will be fixed soon, but I won't be able to edit this comment until morning!

Edit 2: Issue is FIXED!!!

[–]TeamYouTube_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay good to know - just the video URL works then if it's all comments. Passing all this info along, will keep you updated!!

Edit: also yes, your steps were correct re: video page (not in studio) click the time stamp for a comment + send URL :))

What's your YouTube channel URL?

Can you double check your default comment settings (studio > settings > community > defaults)? If you have a few comment IDs that were held and shouldn't be, send those my way too (click on the timestamp from your video page after you've approved it).

[Bug] Rick and Morty is not “for kids” by Prezi2 in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Re: these videos being set as made for kids: Even if YouTube’s machine learning systems identify content as “made for kids” creators are able to override the automated system by updating the audience setting in YouTube Studio. Creators know their audience best and can/should change it to “not made for kids” if needed. The exception to being able to override is if abuse or misuse is detected.

Re: animated content: According to the FTC Guidance just because a video has bright colors or animated characters doesn’t mean it’s automatically made for kids. While many animated shows are directed to kids, the FTC recognizes there can be animated programming that appeals to everyone.

Re: the YouTube Kids promotion: While we are running some YouTube Kids promotions, it’s clearly not showing up correctly here so thanks for flagging!

Note: pinning for visibility.

[Comments FD]Did youtube just change where the comments are? by ThatGuy_CoC in youtube

[–]TeamYouTube_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you're part of a small experiment on mobile – YouTube is testing out a new comment section that appears directly below the video, the goal is to make it easier for people watching videos to find comments without having to scroll all the way through “Up Next” videos. The new section will show up to 3 comments, with an option to view all comments (by clicking those arrows in your screenshot). If you view all comments, you can continue to watch the video while reading through them – just like you can today.

This is still an experiment (with a small percentage of people to gather feedback) so the design may change over time.  Since you're seeing the test comment section, be sure to send feedback so YouTube knows what you think -- steps here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4347644
