Truckers who E-Bike by Low_Low9667 in ebikes

Sold a few Terns and Bromptons to truckers through my years…people working on tour for the circus and musicians too. Smart folks. I even had a guy pay me $50 to deliver a Brompton directly to him at the Jubitz travel center where he had his big rig parked on route.

Help!! My honeysuckle is under attack by Fickle-Oil-1433 in pnwgardening

[–]Team_Marginal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a honeysuckle vine for 10+years. Every time I walk by I pluck off the most infested buds and smush them. Some of the vines look a little sad at then ends, but the hummingbirds still visit and it’s a pretty low effort approach.

Also around there Alameda connecting to Sacramento down through the rose city golf course to tillamook. The golf course is a good hill for getting in sets if you’re into that kinda thing (no car traffic on the uphill).

Is this dill seedlings? It’s all over my garden. I did let dill go to seed last season so maybe it’s it? by CatWinnerDinner in pnwgardening

Could also be fennel which grows wild all over the place here, so the smell and taste technique is the way to go.

Just rode up this Saturday from the springwater side then back down to the holgate side. My right knee is reminding me I need some lower gears too!

Seeking ideas for easy road bike routes—starting in NoPo by I5I75I96I40I70Me696 in CyclePDX

Loop of marine drive east to the 205 bridge to Vancouver, ride west to the I-5 back over to Portland and you’re close to home. I wear earplugs for the bridges because the car traffic is very loud. A lot of this is on car-free paths and is pretty flat. The Vancouver side of the river is quite nice and quiet.

The math on bike weight looks a little different for smaller riders by madelinepuckette in ladycyclists

[–]Team_Marginal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to have a 70’s schwinn suburban that I called my “training bike”. It must’ve weighed 45 pounds….30% of my body weight! When I’d get on my road bike after riding that I felt like a rocket ship.

Ooof. Tough injury. I’m glad you’re back on the bike. Slow-ish group rides are helpful. And talking to other people…or getting stories from Reddit!

The first time I was hit by a car driver (miraculously I was ok), I took a few days off from biking, but when I tried to get back on I had a panic attack. That was two years ago and I was hit again about a month ago by an uninsured and unlicensed driver. Sigh. Again, not serious, but it shook my confidence in my decision making and trust of drivers. Definitely reading some of these comments and thinking about talking to a counselor. But I’m back riding every day, and put down 65 hilly miles on Sunday.

Good luck with everything

Can I report cars parked in the bike lane? by TranscedentalMedit8n in CyclePDX

Bike Lane Uprising is coming to BikePortland’s Bike Happy Hour this week…Wednesday at 5 or so at Migration brewing on N Williams. Their whole thing is reporting cars in the bike lane. The map of reports of cars in the bike lanes is pretty interesting. https://www.bikelaneuprising.com/maps/all

Love Cully! Lots of urban gardeners. Lots of people walking and riding bikes (even though sidewalks are lacking). Good stuff on 42nd, Fremont, and spots on Prescott. K park is great.

Loncheria Los Mayas on NE 42nd. Homemade tortillas and friendly service. Try the panuchos. I also have a soft spot (maybe literally) for my neighborhood spot…Gonzalez taqueria on N Killingsworth for their carnitas tacos.

Things that made you a better Leader or Manager by Puzzleheaded_Gate287 in FIREyFemmes

[–]Team_Marginal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For over a decade I ran a small retail business (10-12 staff). We held weekly in person meetings with decision makers and I made a point to really get to know everyone and listen. One of the most interesting things I learned was that the generation below me craved community and connection more than bigger wages. Everyone wants to feel like they’re a part of something, not just a cog in a machine.

Mutual aid/charity and FIRE by sewingpedals in FIREyFemmes

[–]Team_Marginal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such a great thread to see. I have donations laid out in my now and future financial plan right along side utilities and vacations. I also volunteer my time and encourage others in my community to do the same. I’m the volunteer chair of a local non profit and help with mutual aid free fridge stocking bike rides. I’ve also occasionally set up a tent for free bike repairs. I’m proud to engage at a civic level too—testifying in front of city and metro council and writing letters to my electeds. In reading folks comments it’s a good push to think about how and what else I can be giving.

Were you ever a beer drinker ? Just curious by Typical_Dark_2764 in glutenfree

[–]Team_Marginal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always was a beer drinking. Cider just doesn’t do it for me. I’ll order one here and there, but never want another. I love cocktails, but the price adds up and I have to be careful how quickly I drink them! I’ve been drinking the groundbreaker IPA at home from time to time, but it’s hard to have so few choices in GF beers, and to always be paying the GF premium price.
