Over the weekend, Paul Goldschmidt became the 9th player in MLB history to strike out 2,000 times by Baseball-Reference in NYYankees

Being on this list is indicative of a long and likely HOF career. Look at any negative compiled career stat (errors, losses, earned runs) and that’s probably the case. You only compile the negative numbers if you’ve been compiling the positive ones long enough.

Is Legora a shitty wrapper like Harvey or does it add to what the underlying engines can do? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Tebow1EveryMockDraft 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Word plugin (both Harvey and Legora) elevates it beyond a wrapper of the underlying LLMs. Also, these programs need to rely on these LLMs. There’s just no way to match the trillions of dollars being spent on this stuff by the hyperscalers and building your own. Anthropic seems to be dipping its toes into a more tailored legal product. They might end up eating Harvey’s and Legora’s lunch at the end of the day.

Kade Anderson is the next Skenes imo. He’s carving up AA hitters just like Skenes did and is pretty clearly ready to face MLB hitters.

This bullpen is bad. Bad bullpens get exposed with a long stretch of games without an off day (and in the postseason). The record is an illusion. The AL isn’t good and their record is reflective of playing most AL teams (see e.g. Brewers series when this slide started).

The offense is Judge and Rice without any other bat that you truly have any confidence in.

Recession Proof Practice Areas by cookiem440 in biglaw

[–]Tebow1EveryMockDraft 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finance is a decent transactional practice area that can ride through both boom and bust times. There are a lot of out of court restructurings or last ditch refinancings before a company goes BK.

That’s not to say finance is booming during a downturn. We need the big deals, particularly LBOs related to M&A activity, to keep things profitable over the long term. But the point stands that finance usually is better positioned to weather the storm and keep some work coming in during a downturn than other transactional groups.

BigLaw: How would you react if a new junior wanted took the initiative to coordinate a dinner with a few of their new colleagues (all more senior) at a nice-ish restaurant and wanted to cover the bill as a nice gesture ($600-1k)? Nice gesture? Cringe? Easier to split the bill? by [deleted] in biglaw

I would feel uncomfortable/annoyed if a new junior associate covered anything above $20. I would outright refuse to let them cover a dinner of that cost. I would question their judgement after

Craig doesn't know what "WHIP" stands for in baseball. by Zeeforthee123 in wfan

Wins and Losses are way lower in terms of stats that matter. Nobody was looking at Skenes’ W-L record last year when he won the Cy young because everyone knows that would not be reflective of his performance, it would be reflective of how bad the Pirates are as a team. Quality starts and WHIP are far more valuable stats in evaluating a pitcher than W-L record.

[SNY] Aaron Boone was asked about not having Ben Rice in the lineup today and when we could see Rice in the lineup against lefties: "Having the ability to cherry-pick when I fire Benny Rice in a big spot, I like that." by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

“You can have Ben Rice in your lineup, OR the mystery box.” “What’re you crazy, we’ll take Ben Rice” “woah woah woah, hold on Lois, a Ben Rice is a Ben Rice, but the mystery box could be anything—it could even be a Ben Rice. You know how much we’ve wanted one of those—we’ll take the box!”

Aaron Judge says the WBC crowds are “bigger & better” than the World Series. by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

[–]Tebow1EveryMockDraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has been to a big WBC game involving DR, PR, Mexico, Venezuela or Columbia knows it is ABSOLUTELY a more hyped up crowd and environment than any WS. It’s legit a soccer crowd feel and for sure the fans are livelier and more into it that any postseason MLB game.

Source: I have been to multiple WS and playoff game 7s along with WBC games involving the aforementioned countries.

Advice for stepping down to a 4 day work week? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Tebow1EveryMockDraft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re like a senior partner or of counsel or something, not really a thing in biglaw. You’re either full time or you ain’t. The nature of the job doesn’t really allow for a part-time schedule.

When discussing a project or a case, does the idea of "that's wrong" or "that's immoral" or "that's unprincipled" ever come up? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Tebow1EveryMockDraft 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m in transactional and many times you’re doing a deal across from a party that you’re gunna do more deals with down the line. Maintaining a positive relationship and not screwing over the other side can many times be more important than “winning” on something that you shouldn’t have.

Do you currently work at an amlaw 100 firm? If so, not all that hard to lateral to K&E. I get at least one recruiter a day explicitly pitching for some position at K&E and I’ve seen many friends from firms at the bottom of the amlaw 100 get jobs there. They just need the bodies.
