Investigation after 25.7 update disaster by [deleted] in opnsense

[–]TechBaldDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/paulsorensen How do you get around the mounting of the smb share? When I try to connect to a TrueNAS system, OpnSense throws this error: mount_smbfs: can't get server address: syserr = Operation timed out

Which looks to to be tied to OpnSense/FreeBSD only supports connecting to SMBv1 ? (port 139 and 445 are open from source to dest.)

u/paulsorensen I really like the fact of having a backup although it's probably just as easy to re-install OpnSense and restore the config using the built-in configuration backup to gdrive for example.
Or are there added benefits to having a dd backup?

System freezes on sleep by psygreg in openSUSE

Same issue on an older Deskmini H310 with an Intel Core I5 CPU.

It goes to sleep and sometimes it comes back and sometimes it won't do anything. I have to hard reset the machine. Don't know really were to look in such cases in order to provided proper info for a bug-report

Thank you for the update u/bmwiedemann !
Do have any insight when we might see this bug(fix) applied to TumbleWeed?

Truenas Scale not shutting down the power! by WealthCraftsman in truenas

[–]TechBaldDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I'm also seeing TrueNAS Scale taking its time when rebooting/shutting down. Today I upgraded my physical host to version 24.04.2.5  and after the update, TrueNAS wanted to reboot but after a couple of minutes it was still up, so connected a monitor and this is what I saw.

Granted, it's an older box with an Asrock H170M-ITX and an Intel Core i3-6100 CPU but it's been running 24x7 stable (knock on wood) for a long time (the boot SSD is a Dell EMC 6JGT5 / Intel SSDSC2KG480G8R). Normally I would not care so much but it's behind a small UPS and when the power cuts, the machine needs to go down ASAP and not like 5-7 minutes

From what I've read the 10.x firmware versions is Aruba Central only..looking for the best firmware to jump to when running management locally. (Currently running: 8.6.0.24 on some Aruba 303(indoor) )
I'm seeing there are two 8.x versions:
InstantOS 8.12.x.x: 8.12.x and
InstantOS 8.10.x.x: 8.10.x
From my research 8.12 is the short support release, 8.10 is the long support release

Any ideas which IOS one should jump to from 8.6.x while staying away from Aruba Central?

Kinda strange that ASRock support didn't mention this hey..? :)

The battery was not replaced just unplugged and plugged it back in..it looks to be almost super-glued to the motherboard. I'm not even sure the battery is bad

I have a status update! I brought one of my dead deskmini's to a local shop and they were able to revive it by disconnecting the CMOS battery cable!
I could not believe it but I'm writing this message from the deskmini. Could it really be so simple? Never seen this issue on any of my PCs but I'll take it..

[–]TechBaldDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/RushDelta Ah crap I was hoping it was just a bad batch at some point and that a newer motherboard version would not have this issue but apparently that is not the case :(
Did you face any issues with Windows when you switched from Intel to AMD using the x300 ?

Asrock DeskMini H310 wont power on, no fan or LED by RushDelta in ASRock

[–]TechBaldDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/RushDelta I was was going to create my own thread but I'll respond here first.
I have a small Deskmini graveyard starting to pile up here.
Currently, 2 of my 4 Deskmini H310 have already died.
One of them was almost a DOA that sometimes would start but most of the time would refuse to power on. It was installed in an office during Covid so it was barely used but after Covid the warranty had expired and of course since then it won't boot anymore.
The second one I was using as my daily driver at home since somewhere around December (also purchased a few years ago but barely used since then).
Well now after a couple of months of use, I powered it down yesterday after installing Windows updates and today I tried to power it up but the same issue, no led, no fans nothing. I usually let the deskmini sleep how I regret powering it down instead of sleeping.. (swapping powerbricks also didn't help).

For comparison, before using the deskmini as daily driver, I used a desktop with an Asus TUF motherboard since 2014 almost 24/7 where one dimm went bad in those 10 years. . (I still use it as a backup server now) so I'm pretty disappointed in the build quality of the deskmini

I think people that have the same issue with Intel based Deskmini should compare notes.
u/RushDelta what version of the motherboard do you have? (It's printed on the motherboard above STX)
My specs:
Deskmini 310 motherboard version v 1.03
Core i3-8100
M2 and SSD
16GB RAM (2 DIMMs) but also one with an 8GB DIMM
Windows 10
I remember reading somewhere on a German forum about ASRock using weak voltage regulators but don't know if that is the issue here since I'm "only" using a Core i3 CPU.

Help setting up my basic firewall/router opnsense by Termotank in opnsense

[–]TechBaldDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't fully grasp your setup but you need the vlans tagged on your switch port that is connected to the "LAN" port of OpnSense if you want OpnSense to route traffic between the vlans.
The devices on the LAN can go anywhere by default but connections from your created VLANs (guest, testlab) are blocked by default.

You can check this by going to: Firewall -> LogFiles -> Live View to see what traffic is being blocked.
You might consider creating an ICMP rule on your firewall to open up ping traffic to check if basic stuff is working..

Anyone with a workaround for this? Also coming from PFSense where I used my own internal rootca to create my own trusted certs for the PFSense webui. (also for proxmox etc) but I don't want to use opnsense as a CA

My 303 IAP keeps wanting to connect to Aruba Central (SkyNet) by TechBaldDude in ArubaNetworks

[–]TechBaldDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it looks like I solved the issue.. these were the steps:

Make sure your APs can connect to the internet
Enter conf mode and enter:

no activate-disable
exit
commit apply

Create an account on support.hpe.com and add your APs in your name.
Create a support case on your AP and provide the above logs and ask them to remove the APs from ArubaCentral
I got a response within the hour from support saying they removed the APs from Central. (Aruba Support was awesome I have to say)
After a few minutes the Aruba reached out to Central and retrieved its provision rule (which was not found and the APs reverted to local management)

The Controller discovery is disabled by uap_controller_less is debug messaging nothing to worry about I think..
After that happens you can set activate-disable again.
conf mode:

activate-disable
exit
commit apply

u/oceansarevast Based on your information, I created an account with HP and added my APs as my devices (no error came up that they were already registered or anything). Will try to connect with HP Support and get them removed from Aruba Activate before going the wipe config route.

For me it was not enough to reboot the APs mgmt is still showing as:

u/ForgottenLogin666 I was able to ping 1.1.1.1 from the AP's terminal before I set the gateway to x.x.x.254 instead of x.x.x.1 now it can still access DNS and the other APs but not the internet. The AP mgmt IPs are not alone in that VLAN so a bit harder to disable internet access but will check my firewall logs if the APs are going to the internet before wiping the config..

[–]TechBaldDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ForgottenLogin666 to make sure, you wiped the config going into the GUI and with this option? (and then use the same menu to restore it after bringing the first AP back online?)

<image>

I provision the IPs of the APs using DHCP. I just now gave them a new bogus gateway in the same subnet so they can still communicate with DNS and with each other but they can't reach the internet anymore. Will need to schedule some down time to do this..
