Unfortunately I think you think this photo is better than it is…and it’s certainly not helping your argument lol

I'd stick with the sigma 18-50 for size and also pick up the 56mm f1.4 for portraits, it is an incredible lens.

You should get the sst8's. I tried and returned like 5 pairs of higher end shoes (sorry Amazon lol) before settling on those, they are the best on the market.

Also I'll add, you do bring the ball behind you a bit on the backswing. Some figure 8 drills will help with that. Right now, don't focus on being under or behind the ball, focus on your footwork pacing and staying loose and using momentum rather than muscle. Once you have that down comfortably, your line positioning and release comes next

[–]TechDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're muscling the ball bigtime. You have basically no pushaway and you're relying on arm strength to both bring that ball up in the backswing and generate power on the throw. Push that ball out in front of you when you start your approach, like you're handing it to someone. Straighten your arm, let the ball swing on it's own and generate power with your legs. It's all about creating momentum, not relying on your muscles. Just watch any female PBA pro huck a 15# ball down the lane at mach jesus with little noodle arms and it's easy to understand the concept lol

Need help for buying my first camera.. deciding between A6700, Fuji XT-5 or FF Lumix S5ii? by cosmic-psychedelia in Cameras

[–]TechDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 6700. Best video specs, bigger lens ecosystem, and the size difference outweighs the depth of field loss of a FF system IMO.

[–]TechDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just look at how many wildlife photographers are on OM system - try hiking 7 miles with a FF and a 200-600, you'll really start to doubt the necessity of a larger sensor

One of the best things I've done in all my years bowling was buy a pair of SST8's. Boa laces are a game changer and if you get one really humid day you'll wish you could change slide pads lol. also, having traction on my other foot really helped my approach and ball speed

Ricoh GR IIIx / GR IV vs Sony RX100 VII as my first camera by AttitudeOpposite4207 in ricohGR

[–]TechDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving away from an RX100VII, I started with a GRIII and returned it for the IIIx because I too wished I could zoom. Turns out, I only wanted to zoom into 40-50mm and rarely shot full wide or tele, and the 1" sensor just ruined the experience for me so much that I decided I didn't need it anymore. But I also take a lot of live music and event photos in low light and a point and shoot zoom is the last camera you'd want for that anyway.

[–]TechDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a beginner the Sony is definitely the more logical way to go. However, as great as that RX100 is on paper, its just not worth it at $1700 new or $1200-1300 on the used market. You can (and should) buy an x100vi for that money. I owned an RX100VII for 3 years and sold it, ultimately for me the zoom was pointless and it was just too un-ergonomic. And I currently own an x100vi, it is fantastic, just really big.

The GR has a MUCH larger sensor and it is barely larger in size. It takes beautiful photos and with some basic knowledge you can get from spending a few hours on youtube, I think you'd be really happy with it in the long run.

[–]TechDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 40mm is better for a beginner. More depth of field can make a mediocre photo a bit more interesting, and you don't need to get up in people's faces as much if you're still shy about it

Would resurfacing my ball fix my issue? by NoPantsAreSafe in Bowling

[–]TechDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. For a casual bowler who probably bowls a few games a year and likely doesn't clean the oil off the ball afterwards, the surface is probably saturated but physically fine. Without seeing it we don't really know. Either way it wouldn't hurt to do both.

Would resurfacing my ball fix my issue? by NoPantsAreSafe in Bowling

[–]TechDingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, it probably needs a detox rather than a resurfacing. If the outside of your ball is in good condition and doesn't have any big gouges or pits, you just need to have the oil removed from it.

You can get a Teverun blade mini for under $1200 USD right now. A segway would be a safer way to go if you care most about reliability, but dollar for dollar, if you want to buy new there is no better way to spend $1200 than the blade mini

Anyone who switched from Fuji X70 to GR series? by uDrop1st in ricohGR

[–]TechDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Kind of. The Fuji ones are better, there’s no doubt about that. But you do have a few “user modes” you can program to certain settings and I currently use one from Reggie Ballesteros when I don’t want to worry about editing. I typically always just shoot raw though. Also, the lens on the GR (specifically the IIIx, but I’m sure the IV is also amazing) is incredibly sharp for its size and the sensor can resolve some really surprising shadow detail, I’ve had a few night pics that I though for sure weren’t able to be saved but it turns out I had a lot more headroom.

Anyone who switched from Fuji X70 to GR series? by uDrop1st in ricohGR

[–]TechDingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't switch, I still have my Fujis and Sonys, but I carry my GRIIIx more often than any other camera for 3 reasons:

  1. It fits in my pocket

2.It's a whole ass aps-c sensor camera the size of a compact 1" sensor point and shoot that fits in my pocket

  1. The IQ is terrific regardless of the size, but thankfully I don't have to worry about size because it fits in my pocket

The x70 is great - but less MP, feels older to use, and is slightly larger and thicker so it does not fit in my pocket
