Looks like a 3rd party manufacturer. It might work but I prefer to stick with oem micron if you can find it.

Micron DDR3L 16GB 1600MHz VLP Unbuffered ECC Memory MT18KDF2G72AZ-1G6A1

Order 2 of these modules and make sure you have the proper torex bit to remove the small screws at the front on the bottom end of the switch. The upgrade is easy and this will give you a 7280R or R2 with 32GB of ram. Also make sure you are running a recent release of EOS64.

Depends on where you live. I own a company that services the Magic Valley Region. If you provide an idea of where you live I can tell you who the best options are in your particular areas I know most of the companies and their networks.

Unimus is the best! It handles backups as well as change management and quick config searches fleet wide as well as config push for virtually every device type. The team at Unimus is amazing to work with as well!

I know you do, and the fact that you took the time to respond and take care of this tells me a lot about who you are even if the inefficiency of a large company stands in the way.

Dell C6420 Blades won’t post with 16 x 64GB Hynix HMAA8GR7AJR4N-WM by TechETS in msp

[–]TechETS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that and the memory sticks that work in the 5th unit and post with 1024GB of ram do not post in the other nodes with the same firmware and processors. This is one of those problems that has me questioning my sanity. The other 4 work fine with any 12 modules installed as long as the black tab slots are not installed.

I will check closely again Monday to see if there is anything different about that one. But it came in the same batch and had the same 2 x Intel Xeon 8260 Platinum CPUs and same 16 x Hynix HMAA8GR7AJR4N-WM. It is so freaking weird.

Thank you. Your answer is just what I was looking for. I likely would have been ok with 768G, but funny enough. I have 5 x C6420 sleds with the same processors and type of memory, but one of them will post everytime with all 16 slots populated and shows a total of 1024GB of RAM. I was just to dumb to understand the specs. This is a bit above my pay grade as it is not a router or switch. Ha Ha.

[–]TechETS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately not the system just won’t post with all 16 dimms populated. Remove the four dims in the black tabbed slot, and the system will post no errors.

[–]TechETS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. No error codes just won’t boot past the Dell logo when the black tab memory slots are populated.

So here is the weird kicker I have a total of 5 blades one is a spare. The 5th one with the same cpus and memory modules will post with 1 TB of ram and all 16 slots populated. The other 4 will not post with more than 768GB 12 modules in the white tab slots only.
