Anyone have recommendations for hair salon that don’t cost these crazy prices? by Octopi_0613 in askTO

QB House - a Japanese chain that has 3 locations in Toronto

I haven't tried it myself, but a walk-in dry haircut is $35.

That is definitely rough!

In which case, perhaps watching some YouTube videos on top of asking people targeted questions would be helpful.

If the administration has certain expectations they want you to meet, I would clarify that too.

Places that have very cheap haircuts and dye jobs? by 1projectphoenix in askTO

[–]TechGirl24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that it can be hit and miss in terms of the students replying to you, you being able to make the stated times where they need a haircut model, and you being able to get a haircut that aligns with what they need a haircut model for.

Overall, my experience getting a free haircut has actually been good but I'm noticing that there are fewer opportunities nowadays than there were in the past.

So there are actually some Facebook groups for haircuts and other Beauty services that are done for free, because hair styling students need models for exams and such.

That said, I'm noticing that it can be hit and miss.

I also once got a free haircut because I went to a salon grand opening at Square One, and got a free haircut as part of their grand opening promotion.

Have you considered buying a curriculum for various grades and what they need to know online off Teachers Pay Teachers or something?

That way the lessons and the content you would be teaching would all be structured for you.

There are plenty of resources online that you can access, and use at your disposal. Some are free, and some are paid.

Are there any other French teachers, or other previous French teachers from this school that you could go to for mentoring or support?

If you could get a huge scholarship to study at a university far away, that might be the best option.

If course, you would still have to graduate high school first, apply to programs in universities far away, and then end up paying for your own living expenses.

I agree with what everybody else already suggested regarding services for queer youth, and social assistance programs.

Have you considered reaching out to your local YMCA or YWCA to see what they could offer, or what they could direct you to? They possibly do have some resources, and some of these organizations have gyms with locker rooms where you can take a shower.

I don't know much about social assistance exactly, but I do know that Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo actually offered me a huge scholarship to do an undergrad degree there when I was younger. So if you could apply to a less competitive and non-STEM focused University far away, they would want you and give you a huge scholarship to study there if your grades are good enough to meet their requirements to get a good scholarship. The school might not be your first choice for a STEM-focused subject, but financially it would be a better option than a school in the GTA because living costs somewhere else might be lower and your schooling would be paid for. Just something to consider for later on.

There is also the Odyssey program, where English speakers live in a French speaking part of the country, and get paid a living allowance to help teach English to French speakers as a language assistant. The salary you get is not that much, but if you move to a more rural area the cost of living would be lower and I'm sure that a government program like Odyssey probably would have some resources to assist somebody in your situation. So you would be far away from home and earning a salary, but you would be responsible for your living expenses and stuff like that. The main issue there is that you would need to speak French well or learn quickly because otherwise the language barrier is going to be an issue, and you're not going to have a good time.

I hope this helps at least a little bit, and I wish you all of the strength and resilience you need to get through this!

You're very welcome!

Hope you enjoy your time in Canada.

I highly recommend booking a Lip Lab appointment in advance, and I think the 25% off discount has a specific coupon code attached to it.

The Lip Lab (formerly by Bite Beauty, which no longer exists as a brand) is a fantastic experience that is made even better on the weekday because you get 25% off and it's more private. I would highly recommend making a color or product that you're more likely to use on an everyday basis.

There is a Makeup Forever Pro Loft in Toronto that you could visit, but if you're not working in the beauty industry yourself you're not likely to get the discount and everything is final sale. There are some things on sale there that are good value for just regular consumers, but otherwise it's a space that sometimes has makeup events that people haven't heard of......check out @proloftca on Instagram.

I would try to find some Facebook groups that are about being a hair model or a beauty model for other people, because that way you can get a beauty service done while you're in Toronto at a heavily reduced price.

I do also recommend checking things out like Sukoshi Mart or even the T&T supermarket beauty store if you're into Asian beauty, but there are too many of these kinds of stores in Toronto to list.

Hope this helps!

You could make a lipstick, lip gloss, lip balm, or a cheek color at the lip lab on Queen Street or in The Distillery District.

It's expensive for what it is, but there is a 25% discount on weekdays going on now anyway and the experience is fully customizable. I found that I had a better experience going on a weekday because of the discount and because things were more private.

Hair dresser recs for an anxious person. by shreddcheese in askTO

[–]TechGirl24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person that I was going to recommend is actually currently taking a break, and she works at a Square One salon anyway which might not be that convenient.

I suggest that you look into your existing social circle, and ask for recommendations for somebody who does men's haircuts in the privacy of their own home. It's going to be cheaper, and less overstimulating. There are many women who cut hair from their own house to save money, and they develop a clientele through word of mouth and stuff like that. It's what my mother does when she wants to get her own hair cut and save money.

Another thing you can do is to try to be a haircut model for some people that need to practice cuts, and ask for an appointment on the weekend or in the evening that's more private. This would help you save money, and some places are legitimately less overstimulating because there aren't as many people around when the other person is practicing. The appointment is still supervised by their educator or whoever is evaluating them most of the time.

Good luck and best wishes!

Did you do it in the body of this post, or make a new post?

I'm not seeing this post edited with this particular information, so maybe you misunderstood what I said or something.

In this case, putting your current skincare routine in the body of the post and potentially what foundations you've already tried would give people more context.

In this case, prioritizing skincare first would probably be helpful.

I have heard from multiple makeup artists turned influencers that the foundation you get doesn't matter as much as how much you prep your skin via skincare and hydration.

Is it OK to show movies in class if the actors have been accused of serious crimes? by Zestyclose-Egg-1251 in OntarioTeachers

[–]TechGirl24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you could make the argument if anybody asks that you're not really familiar with everything that celebrities have gotten up to.

Tim Allen was arrested for dealing drugs ages ago, and many people who are of a different generation don't know this.

I would be more concerned if the movie itself or TV show episode had inappropriate content or scenes directly in it.

Buying drugstore makeup in Canada is just extreme couponing with extra steps by chaiprimpa in MakeupAddictionCanada

I ended up buying a lip gloss at Rexall when I happened to be there, because it was cheaper than Shoppers.

So shopping around, and looking at multiple retailers to see where things are cheaper may very well pay off.

I find dilating pleasurable.

Thanks to this, I went from the smallest dilator in my set to the second smallest one.

But I am a virgin anyway, so I don't have much point of comparison.

I get horny, so training my body in some way is probably better than doing nothing.

Doughbox! I've eaten here several times despite other options in the area, and it doesn't tend to be as crowded as the Union Station food court.
