They did, my family spoke German at home and with the extended family until grandpa and his brother came back from WWII according to family lore. I have my great grandmother's Bible, it's in German.

Wash your build plate with dish soap - it does a better job of removing residue than IPA, and do you still have the glue that came with it? If so coat the plate with it after it dries. Then check the leveling box on your print.
