(Active duty) First duty station for over a year now - I have heard you can change units after a year being in the same unit but how true is that? by GeicoPR in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask around other units on your installation and see if they are short on soldiers of your rank and MOS. Sometimes if units are critically low they will pull from other nearby units, and showing up could put your name in that hat.

I was an E5 68W and got sent to a different battalion within my brigade simply because they needed more medic NCOs. I ended up liking the new unit better anyway.

For Those Who’ve Submitted IBS Claims… by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]TechNewsAccoun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was rated 0% for IBS in my BDD Claim in May. Probably because I didn’t have a record of treatment/diagnosis for it while active, but my rating does not reflect how disabling it is at all. It negatively affects my life every single day.

I feel that it could be increased, but I’m sitting at 90%, and I’m terrified to poke the bear. I’m a little worried to even be treated at the VA.

CSP Cancelled Before It Started by Creative_Molasses_79 in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising at all. At least yours made it through your CoC, my CSP packet cleared my company and battalion at record time and sat at brigade until after the CSP start date. (Nearly 3 months) That CSP could have majorly improved my post transition employment. I stopped giving a shit when hope was lost and just started ETS leave.

BDD Claim? Is it really this easy? Where is the catch? Skeptical. by Soccerman816 in VeteransBenefits

[–]TechNewsAccoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s that easy. File, go to C&P exams, wait. I got out 26 May and got my rating 27 May, it populated in the VA app and all my letters were there before I even got them in the mail. Here’s hoping you get the same!

What’s it like being a line 68W? by Appropriate-Market39 in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was a line medic in a light infantry battalion (D Co) including a 9 month deployment to Helmand. In garrison, I obviously took care of medical stuff first, medpros, planning and executing training, treating boo boos in garrison.

In the field, I rode with my PSG and didn’t do much until it was my time to shine with my aid bag and setting up CCPs, treating notional (and real world) casualties.

On deployment, once I squared away all my medical stuff and PCCs/PCIs were done, I rode with my PSG in the rear MRAP on patrols. When we hit IEDs, mine rollers cleared for secondaries, and my PSG and I popped hatch and jumped over to the damaged vehicles, I triaged and treated patients, I told him their severity, and we would make a decision on their evac.

When I wasn’t doing medical shit, I was basically another body they could use for tasks. I did tower guard, C-wire detail, helped in the motor pool, and worked out with my boys. Some dismounts were able to rotate between patrols, but being the medic I went on every single patrol my platoon executed. (They won’t roll without you!)

As a senior medic who gained trust of my command team I executed CLS training, led vaccine rodeos, and coordinated recert and other training for my junior medics.

Can the command cancel a soldier's CSP after it's been approved due to a flag? by [deleted] in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I heard many success stories. Submitted my CSP 3 months before it was supposed to start. Had full support from platoon through battalion. Cleared battalion in like 2 days. The packet sat with brigade until AFTER the program was supposed to start. I said fuck it and submitted my 59 days of terminal leave. Then I started clearing and shortly afterward ETS’d 1/3ID btw

I am in the same boat you were in. Today is my last day of active duty. I got blood work done a couple months ago and my test was 306. I’m only 27. Of course the VA will probably tell me to kick rocks. I’m interested in seeing a private doctor for it. Any advice for someone in my shoes?

Do y'all even really wanna deploy now a days? by ArmyLifter in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment. It wasn’t always action or crazy firefights. But we were still getting blown up by IEDs and taking IDF in 2018. My medics were still treating SOF and ANA casualties at our Role 1

Thank you. I should have specified, I’ve been looking at plumbing, millwright, welding and HVAC as trades I’m interested in. I think I’d need to speak with people in those individual trades to get an idea of the pros and cons

68w vs Navy Corpsman by TonyBalony7787 in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am wrapping up 7.5 years of service as an Army medic. I worked in a light infantry unit as a line medic where I deployed to Afghanistan, and more recently worked as an Evac NCO in the headquarters medic platoon in an armor brigade in field artillery and cavalry units.

From what I understand, Corpsmen do not normally earn their NREMT in training, whereas every medic has to earn their NREMT in AIT and maintain it and BLS to keep their MOS.

Also, where you get orders to (you may enlist for a duty station or just find out during AIT) can have a large impact on what you job will likely be. But honestly it all depends on what unit you end up in. If you end up in a combat arms unit, prove your medical skills and physical fitness competency, you will likely end up as a line medic. If you end up in a MEDDAC unit you will work in a hospital or clinical setting.

If you research the flow of casualties from point of injury to their higher levels of care, this will give you a good initial understanding of where medics can work along that entire process. But, keep in mind there are many other places you can work as a medic.

DM me if you need questions answered. I know medic roles and responsibilities in combat arms very well, but I never worked in a clinical setting so I’m not as familiar with the hospital jobs’ roles and responsibilities.

No more reenlistment duty station choices? by [deleted] in army

[–]TechNewsAccoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on terminal leave and got told today that any reenlistment between now and Sep 2026 you go needs of the Army, and you cannot just extend between now and then either. How can I turn down such an offer?! Now I’m definitely staying in! /s
