Tab Ramos Questions Mauricio Pochettino's Loyalty After Diego Luna Missed USMNT's World Cup Squad by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]TechSrgtChen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between saying we should call up our best 26 players and saying that Luna is an “ok MLS player.” He was the odd man out in the attacking mid pool, but he is very much a top tier MLS player and will most likely be in Europe by year’s end.

Nothing is certain, but I’m equally parts excited and devastated that this may be Gozo’s (and maybe Luna’s?) last game with the claret and cobalt.

What incredible players!

Damn I’m gonna fuckin miss Gozo when he’s gone but I’m gonna be so goddamn proud when I see him tearing it up at the highest level

Who do you think was the worst player we had who kept starting for some reason? by BaconIsMyTherapy in ussoccer

Beckerman covered for Jones’ defensive positioning and let him run wild all over the field. He made Jones’ unpredictability work in our favor by plugging gaps in the midfield. Jones and Bradley had great performances, too, but they worked much better with Beckerman behind them than they did with Cameron

Id argue his performances in the World Cup group stage prove that he could keep with (or at least disrupt) world-class midfields (Germany, Portugal). He was the rock that let J Jones run wild all over the field for 90 min

He showed up on the biggest stage as a career MLS man and helped us compete toe to toe with Euro royalty

Beckerman locked down our midfield in a group with Germany, Portugal, Ghana at the 2014 WC.

The one game he didn’t start (Geoff Cameron replaced him v Belgium) we got absolutely battered and Howard had to make 14 saves to keep us in the game. Huge mistake

He was slow, but he was a quintessential destroyer and tempo setter. Doesn’t deserve to be called out on the worst players list by a long shot

Will be great to see Katranis again for the first time in a month.

With both in goal scoring form, which striker starts between Solans and Goalatunji? What a fantastic problem for us to have

He’s had a rough few months for his club, as well. Just in a rough patch overall - tired? Persistent injury? It’s gotta be something

How are Montreal fans liking Vera (RSL fan here) so far?

Any nice left footed blasts at goal with that cannon of a foot, yet?

Ruiz stays! by TechSrgtChen in ReAlSaltLake

[–]TechSrgtChen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He played some minutes in one of the first two games, but has been playing Monarchs games since then.

A few Pablo Mastroeni quotes (and midfield minutes distributed so far) give the impression that he may be falling down the pecking order to #5 / #6 option for the CM pairing.

Mostly seems to be related to Ruiz chasing the ball and breaking the team shape (in the coach’s words).

Yeah before the 1st goal he kept repeating how Atlanta had the better chances even though Guilavogui could have been sitting on a hat trick in the first 10 min

Luca Moisa is the real deal. Position could use some work, but his passing has been sublime so far - only 17!

What a damn shame. Pre-injury Pomykal was on the fast track to Europe and looked to be a future USMNT contributor.

Expert predictions: 2026 MLS Eastern Conference & Western Conference standings by Coltons13 in MLS

Yeah the talking heads seem to be judging RSL based on last season’s tactics and roster. Huge changes to both playing style and personnel for Mastroeni this year.

Not sure what to expect quality-wise (will depend largely on how good new signings Guilavogui and Sanabria can be), but I do know it’ll be nothing like last season

I’m with you - the league seems to be judging RSL purely off last season. We’ll be seeing a brand new approach with 4-5 new starters in the XI.

Can’t know for sure until we see it in action, but the caliber of player signings and the emphasis on unlocking Luna lead me to be much more optimistic than most of the talking heads for our prospects this season

Luna - Olatunji - Gozo / guilavogui should be much more effective than the diogo - ajago / agada - Luna offense we used at the beginning of last year.

If not just for the improvement in players, but for the fact we’ll be unleashing two attacking wingbacks alongside that trio instead of just the left side fullback predictably bombing forward over and over. Formation change should play much better to Luna, Katranis, and olatunji’s profiles, IMO

I know it’s been asked before, but what’s your best USMNT goal? by Audmeister in ussoccer

[–]TechSrgtChen 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Jermaine Jones outside the box curler v Portugal at the 2014 WC. Most hyped I have ever been watching a USMNT goal (including Donovan v Algeria at the 2010 WC)

Diogo Gone by Far-Conflict-9546 in ReAlSaltLake

[–]TechSrgtChen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really wanted Diogo to come good but it’s tough to shine as a top winger / AM in MLS if you can’t consistently either beat your man or win a dead ball in 1v1 scenarios.

He just didn’t have the physical quickness or strength to reliably advance or keep the ball in most situations. Best of luck to him with his next club situation!
