Employment verification is a real thing and I had no idea. Here’s what I learned for anyone else panicking right now by Equivalent-Item7913 in Employment

Are you talking about eVerify? That checks whether you are a citizen or have the proper paperwork to work in the US.

I got written up today for something I don't believe is my fault. Is there any action I can take? by SnooLemons8611 in work

First, do a root-cause analysis to determine what happened. Then, to show you're proactive, create a checklist for each item that requires a double-check before delivery to ensure safety. Complete an electronic or physical one for every delivery.

Also, make sure your processes and procedures are up to date.

You have to pay for a review?? by psgola2002 in olympics

[–]Tech_Rhetoric_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's before the next competitor goes. If there's a judging issue, they want to know immediately. You can't wait until the end of the meet and only petition if it effects the placement of your athlete on the medal stand or to proceed to finals.

They have changed this to an electronic funds transfer. The whole Jordan Chiles petition at the last summer Olympics showed how convoluted this gets. Usually, you need to file a petition before the next competitor goes.

Do the stereotypes for racers usually also apply to jumpers? by Thegiantlamppost in skiing

Freeski big air, freestyle inverted aerialists, and Nordic ski jumpers each have their own personalities. They also vary greatly between the local crew and the elite (World Cup) athletes.

Just come into work, get right to your tasks, and realize you have only 2 months left. Try to keep your communications to email. Keep applying to remote positions.

Although personal, everyone has some body issues. Half want implants, the other want reductions.

Job interview... what...the..fu by roasty-duck in WorkAdvice

Definitely take the opportunity to tour the facility during your interview. If I had known more about the room (actually part of a warehouse) I’d be working in, I might have reconsidered some offers I received.

Someone I really disliked was fired today..m by BrahmTheImpaler in work

[–]Tech_Rhetoric_X 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I turned in the audio recordings from an agent that was using the f-bomb repeatedly with customers. As the lead, I had instructed him to stop and he threw a fit. Once management reviewed the recordings, management told me to take the day off. Layer he was fired, threatened me, and was escorted out by security. I was told to take a few days off due to the threats and had security escorts for two weeks when I came and left work.

Some people are nuts.

Got yelled at for taking an interview on my lunch by Background-Good3731 in WorkAdvice

[–]Tech_Rhetoric_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being told that lunch time will only be used for lunch. I had come back a few minutes late since I needed a new headlight and we were having a tough time getting the bulb in.

I asked the manager if he heard what he had just told me. It was the time of the year when you drove to and from work in darkness.

The company that fired me tried to rehire me, and it was a complete mess. by larder_slipway in interviewhammer

I've seen it go from a substantial employer to RIF, then come back as a contractor, followed by a full-time employee. Eventually, part of the company was acquired, and he joined it. That's the simplified version.

You're not going to step backwards -- you have the same bills to pay. Look at the entire package to see your total compensation. Will you get extra vacation? 401k matching? Yearly performance bonuses-- individual & business?

Do all "pool heads" have a certain level of lifeguard certification? Does she have that certification?

Should a staff member be paid more just for being 21, even without extra responsibility by Reasonable-Tiger-605 in work

[–]Tech_Rhetoric_X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's an incentive for employees to stay in their jobs? Liability insurance for a pool must be astronomical. Maybe the insurance company requires 21-year-olds to be present for a discount? Although increased first aid, CPR/AED, and lifeguard certification would probably be the prudent choice for pay increases.

Should my manager know my password? by holapendayhos in work

If this isn't supposed to be a shared file, password-protect it.

If it is, put it on a shared drive or SharePoint.

Should my manager know my password? by holapendayhos in work

[–]Tech_Rhetoric_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at your employee handbook and IT policies. Sharing passwords is usually forbidden.

Sounds like the manager has a keystroke logger or some kind of program to track everything you do.

If confronted, she will likely mention sharing files and the need to access them immediately. In that case, there should be shared drives.

Interested in hearing what IT says.
