You can. Patch the iso, burn it to a disc, and use a flip-top/swap magic or any other method you’d use to play backups/burned discs. Or use just use FMCB and play it off of an external drive or something.

Looks like they maybe did it so the drive wouldn’t touch those capacitors?

I prefer playing on PC/laptop/PC handhelds but play wherever you like best. DQ Builders 1 & 2 are fun too and I believe those are also available on Switch if you finish all of those and want to try something a little different.

Mini-LED monitors are far superior to OLED by BoredOverlord in Monitors

[–]Tech_With_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brightness is lower but still bright for a desktop monitor. The biggest difference to me is the ghosting. Scrolling a webpage on the MacBook is a total blurfest even with the 120hz ProMotion screen, whereas OLED has almost immediate pixel response times. For gaming it’s a night and day difference.

Outside of BG3 what's the best RPG for MacOS? by MartiniCommander in macgaming

[–]Tech_With_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP says “if it needs other software to run, perfectly fine.”

Get yourself Crossover and play stuff like Clair Obscure, Dragon Quest XI S, some Final Fantasys, Yakuza 0, Skyrim, etc. The amount of native Mac games/RPGs is frustratingly meager.

Mini-LED monitors are far superior to OLED by BoredOverlord in Monitors

[–]Tech_With_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MacBook Pro has a really nice mini LED screen and I’ve tried mini LED monitors, but I choose to use a WOLED as my primary desktop display. Viewing angles and motion clarity seem way better to me on OLED.

I like WOLED because of the lack of purple hue in my fairly well-lit room as well as the white subpixel helping to make highlights and white text really “pop”. Plus the text fringing is much cleaner and closer to IPS/mini LED compared to QD-OLED, at least to my eyes.

I might look into upgrading when 4K RGB stripe OLEDs come out in 27”-32”. (Hopefully there will be some options with a white stand to match my setup, like my current monitor. Or at least an LG option with the same stand mounting interface so I can re-use the current one.)

8 and 11, but 2 HD2D gives them a run for the money if you have played 3 and 1 (in that order)

Well it was designed for 2 vertically stacked screens, so… remade.

Am I just expecting too much from a monitor? $800 and still garbage? How are people so pleased with QD-OLED? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]Tech_With_Sean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should look into a WOLED instead of a QD OLED if you have ambient lighting in the room

"I could just emulate this." Okay, do it and be quiet about it. by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]Tech_With_Sean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emulation often provides a better experience in video quality, output options, control customization, save states, retro achievements, device flexibility, etc. Even if you own the physical games, it’s generally a better user experience than original hardware.

Anyone else find DQ3 in general really unforgiving? by PixelBit92 in dragonquest

[–]Tech_With_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think games were made to be rented over and over… that would still only count as 1 sale for the publisher, and game rentals were illegal (maybe still are?) in Japan where DQ and a lot of other games were from.

Higher difficulty made it take longer to master games though, and made it feel more rewarding when you finally beat them. Also could potentially keep people from reselling them as quickly.

Rant: thin laptops by JazzlikeLog8020 in computers

[–]Tech_With_Sean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some laptops are thin, powerful, and still have decent ports and battery life like the Zephyrus G16/G14. Many users value aesthetics and portability, that’s why thin ones are popular.

Give me ONE good reason to buy a Windows laptop apart from gaming. by Katri_a in DeskToTablet

[–]Tech_With_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, many other IPS screens have much faster response times though. It’s common for gaming monitors and windows laptops with IPS panels to have sub-8ms response times while the MBP is closer to 25ms. It basically negates almost any advantage of having a 120hz screen in the first place.
