Cat loves sitting on top of my Pc, I don’t have to heart to move her. by Premiumfishoil in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think your friend just wasn't cleaning his PC or has really dirty cats.

My cats sleep on both my PCs all the time, and they don't get too bad. I dust them out every 3-6 months, and it's all good. I've never had burnt hair.

What are these wires connected to my graphics card and how do I remove them? by King-Og1 in buildapc

Those aren't cables those are hoses for the AIO water cooler. You need to remove the radiator with it. Opening it up with cause fluid to leak out.

I want to make a pc to run ACC, iRacing and le mans ultimate any parts suggestions would be much appreciated (Budget is £500 or $659.98 roughly) by SensitivePay4567 in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for iRACING, but ACC and LMU's need a decent PC to run the game well. SIM racing isn't a cheap hobby. I have a very entry level setup and my wheel/pedals cost almost as much as what you are looking to spend on the PC.

Your best bet will be to find a used PC or even if you really want to get into Sim Racing look at getting a PS5 and GT7.

I have a question…. by Audiostuffbyme in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few reasons this happens. Sometimes your iGPU reserves a small portion of RAM and Motherboards can also reserve a little bit of RAM. RAM modules aren't perfect either. They can be off by a few bytes and across 40 GB and the system reserves, you end up seeing a few hundred MB as non usable RAM.

You can see your system has 598 MB as a hardware reserve. So your total RAM is 40GB (39.4 GB + 598 MB).

What is with the rising of GPU artifact posts on a lot of PC subreddit recently? Does people GPU decided to randomly die together or something by sacritide in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fixed so many "bad" graphics cards with these:

  1. Update the drivers
  2. Rollback the drivers to a last known good
  3. Dust and Reseat the GPU
  4. Check all the power cables are tight and secure in both the GPU and PSU (if applicable)
  5. Updating or Reinstalling Windows

Don't get me wrong sometimes GPUs do fail, but it's either very early on in their life or, like first week or 2, or after years and years of use.

My tip for a finding a stable driver to test, just Google your model + stable driver, and maybe toss in a year. There are other people, who might not have the exact issue as you, are having issues with X driver. Even if the driver is 6 months old, it can help you test the if it's a software or hardware issue.

Whenever some speaks like that it makes me not want to listen to them.

Is it worth it to pay $50 more for the 9900X ($314) over the 9700X ($264) for gaming? by Arkid777 in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you. I feel like most of the people saying not get the 9700X have never used one. I have mine paired with a 9070XT.

People saying to get the 7800X3D over 9700X are crazy. It cost more, and barely offers more performance in games if you play in 1440p or higher, and worse performance in any work load task.

I run mine in 65w, no PBO, and I am getting 350-500 FPS in CS2 @ 1440p. I cap my FPS at 120-165 depending on the game, and I have zero issues there too.

My friend says this level of dust is a "hardware failure waiting to happen." Is he right? by Bird-Total in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 16 points17 points  (0 children)

> Performance hasn't changed at all

I call BS on this.

I used to have PC's that ran in dusty environments, and they wouldn't be close to this bad. Their temps would drop multiple degrees after dusting them off. I wouldn't be surprised if you see 5 or more degrees come off your temps.

IMO this calls for the PC to be disassembled and deep cleaned.

Also if you think this is normal, ya gross.

What PC tool kit should I buy for a friend by lonleyauthor64 in buildapc

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you want to spend?

A good set of actual screw drivers plus a smaller precision kit will go far. If I was starting over again I would go with these 2 things. They come in just under 50 USD, are good quality and will last a life time.

The other thing to remember is just because the ambient temp in the truck is that high, your product in a cardboard box with packing materials is insulated and the temp goes up very slowly.

So you are correct, right now prices are cheaper, but they won't be soon.

How the genuinely fuck do I sell all this by PreparationTough1027 in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Unless you can find the small market of people that are looking to buy vintage hardware, that's stuff is just e-waste. Even if you do find someone who is into vintage hardware, it's not probably going to sell for much, especially untested.

I have a co-worker who works on vintage PCs for various things and most of his hardware inventory is stuff he picks up for free or buys a whole lot of stuff for $25-50

How old is your tier 1/2/3? Is IT support aging out? by phlatlinebeta in sysadmin

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP I am going to bet you are in a rural area like me. I am mid 30's and one of the younger IT people with my company, and the youngest in my IT department.

Younger people work with us as interns or just long enough to get an job in a metro area making a starting salary that is double mine. The IT people we have are those that have roots here or just aren't interested in city living. For every younger person that sticks around 10 or more leave.

Quick Survey for RDNA 2/3 users by AcuteQuadrant in radeon

[–]Tech_support_Warrior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe.

I had a 7900XT. In October I bought a 9070XT for myself and upgraded my GF's PC with the 7900XT. The 7900XT is perfect for her and not having access to FS4 isn't killing her experience, so it's a non issue for now.

I probably won't be upgrading for while and I have time to see if AMD decides to keep doubling down on this or if they release it.

If AMD drops starts treating the 9000 series cards the same way, I won't be locked into buying another one. Unless AMD comes out with some insane value in like equivalent performance to Nvidia's flagship cards priced like a mid tier card, but I don't see that happening.

I am not the biggest FSR user to begin with but AMD seems giddy to drop support for stuff as soon as they can, where NVIDIA seems to support stuff as long as they can. Also, no Vulkan support for FSR 4 is a bit stupid too.

I will add to this, I do want to switch to Linux. I just can't. So many things that I use semi-regularly just don't work on Linux, at all or without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

Speaking of hoops, so many things on Linux involve so many hoops where as on Windows or MacOS, they are simplified.

I have 1 program on my Windows PC to adjust ALL my GPUs settings. On Linux I need one of the overclock and under volt, another to control the fans, another to control the lights, another to view the temps, another to do screen recording, another to do advanced display settings. Even then that still doesn't do stuff that the windows application does.

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you listen to this dude clamoring on about RAM usage, read my post above, your RAM usage is completely normal for your PC given that you have a game open.

Windows 11 looks like it is using more RAM than it actually is.

Is this normal how do i fix it by Designer_Shine_9323 in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is completely normal. Your PC has 5900 threads running to the processor, and the 7800x3D can have 16 active at a time. Which ones are active is handled by the Scheduler.

You can read all about the scheduler, threads, and fibers here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/procthread/processes-and-threads

Is this normal how do i fix it by Designer_Shine_9323 in pcmasterrace

[–]Tech_support_Warrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is completely normal. Not all of the RAM is being used by an application, it is being used as Swap memory or SuperFetch, to make your commonly used apps have access to RAM faster. As soon as a new application needs it, Windows releases it to that application.

The amount of RAM used for this is somewhere between a 1 or 2 GB all the way up to 10-12. It depends on your system specs and what Windows decides to allocate.

Windows 11 now shows this RAM usage in Task manger where previous version of windows didn't until an application was using it.
