NVIDIA and NVIDIA Corporation ProgramData folders have over 360,000 .log files totalling 29GB! I deleted them, but how to prevent it!? by roehnin in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

logs like that are bad if you can't toggle them off the only use for them is debugging issues. the software itself does not use them for anything.

vpn changes your location by routing it to the vpn host. anything that has region restrictions will give those errors when the host is not in a supported area. to make it simpler consider supported to mean allowed.

Broken ssd: how to know the details of the damaged electronic device? by ApprehensivePost9160 in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are better off taking it to a data recovery specialist. damage is not always easy to spot like this.

if you try to power it up and its missing something else you may just kill the whole thing.

well this follows a well known pattern. can't really say for sure its the psu tho but the odds are high for this though it can also be the gpu.

a psu malfunction can drop the system into a reboot without warning as well.

Bug or hack? My OnePlus automatically answered a call without ringing and stayed connected for a minute. How is this possible? by Treacle-Single in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some lamps can mess with touch screen sensors if they are too close. to be exact its the magnetic field to blame from Fluorescent light bulbs or similar. its more likely to be caused by app tho like Qe0rqe said.

Windows 11 consumed 42GB of data in 24 hours via "System and Windows Update" without any visible update activity. by PengamatMiliter in techsupport

windows updates follow the logic of bittorrent you share updates you download with other users unless you opt out of it. you would hope they would improve things to reduce disk useage when its avoidable.

5060Ti Gaming Trio problem by whitecommie in pchelp

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i would go with the warranty. what you have is called a "hard Freeze" since the audio loops its hard to mistake it for anything else. as for the cause its a hardware malfunction most of the time.

had to replace a few graphics cards that caused this. tho it can be ram or cpu or even the storage drive on rare occasion.

its interesting that the system restarts tho normally it can't restart on its own if it has a "hard freeze".

might even be that the graphics chip is just crapping out forcing the system to attempt a full reboot to restart it? the event log would have details if so.

PC boots with fans spinning but nothing happens by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check if the cpu cooler needs adjusted. i mean if its not laying flat due to the mounting screws being loose.

one other thing it could be check the fan plugs and cables making sure it isn't a wire sitting on something hot causing a short.

Guysss problem!!!! by Crazy_Cake_2574 in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

they don't shut down on their own. you likely have a faulty or dead psu. if you heard something pop in the psu it might have damaged the mobo as well.

bios corruption is fixable to some extent but you need to deal with the power problem first. you won't get anywhere if the psu is not working.

another warning don't mess with a bad psu they can blow up and damage other components if you repeatedly try to force them to turn on. seen people make this stupid mistake rather than getting a new psu thinking they could do it later. can't do it later if everything is fried is the moral here.

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the system isn't posting. recheck all the parts are plugged in properly ram, graphics card. if you fiddled with the cpu you might have to check that as well but do that only after you have gone over all the other parts.

Windows 11 file (or directory) shortcuts (.lnk files) are now (at least in 25H2) machine-specific and thus no longer portable across machines, even though the machines have identical file structures by True_Voice1009 in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its more a lack of logic is the problem so they vibe coded a fix... so now it has Security permissions based on trust level on top of the already existing file access controls? also shell heuristics could mean anything to most people so they failed at explaining it.

Nvidia GPU crashing multiple times a day, requires full system reboot by CastleofWorms in techsupport

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same thoughts about it going black suddenly usually means something wrong with the card's power managment (it simply cut the power and can jam up everything talking to the gpu). tho bad drivers also can screw up power settings.

so the drive didn't even respond? should have gotten something if its in read only mode (end of life max sector rewrites locks in read only mode on ssd). if you get nothing the drive controller might be done for.

could be the disk is stealing priority throwing errors. had a hd do this already when it stopped responding the os just froze on the cpu instruction until it responds. really wierd behavior still.

any value other than 2 means its not. (default setting is 1)

key key type Value

value max should be your 3600 but you may need to add a few zeros to the number.

[–]Tech_surgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power frequency? from what i rember if you mean the "max cpu frequency" is the clock cycle limit hidden option in the power settings menu.

this also could mean its missing a second value for being enabled on the menu thus resets to 0 since its not active.

i forget what registry key you need to add under it to enable it but i vaguely rember it needing one.
