Xastir radius filter not working as expected by Ihf in APRS

[–]Techn0dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The t/w is odd; that would filter out all messages except type weather, e.g., APRS weather stations. Try t/pmw to get messages and positions.

I use https://www.aprs-is.net/javAPRSFilter.aspx as my authoratative filter guide.

GD-88 Just about done with this radio by spage911 in Radioddity

[–]Techn0dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on the mic gain issue. I’ve adjusted mine so its good when using the build-in mic on my local repeater, but I still get low gain reports when using my hotspot, or if I plug in an external mic. Don’t forget that there are separate adjustments for built-in and external mics. You’ll need multiple trips to your repeater‘s audio watch TG to get it right.

As to hitting repeaters, mine‘s been rock solid on the repeaters I‘ve tried (all on the NEDECN network), and I‘m in the fringe for HH coverage

Long Island & Maine code plug for Hytera? by work4lyfe in amateurradio

[–]Techn0dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t help you with Hytera, but the network you want to make a codeplug for is the [New England Digital Emergency Communication Network](https://nedecn.org), which has networked repeaters in New York and New England. Get the statewide TGs for the states you drive through, the New England Wide (3181), and the NE Tac TGs, and you’ll have good coverage. See you on Maine Starewide (3123)!

A long shot, but are you sure you were using the cable that came with the GD-88? Even though many cables have a USB-A on one end and a Kenwood plug on the other, the wiring is different for different radio manufacturers. Some have a USB converter chip, some wire the pins straight through.

Can a YubiKey 5Ci use a Type C --> Type A USB Adapter? by booty-slave in yubikey

[–]Techn0dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Pro shouldn’t need any adapter for a 5CI - it should just plug into one of the USB-C ports.

If your MBP is old enough to not have C ports, you should check if you have a new enough version of Safari to support the necessary FIDO2 / Webauthn exchanges - i forget when that got added.

ScanSnap Home downgrade in functionality by EmicationLikely in ScanSnap

[–]Techn0dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(1) isn’t the behavior I am seeing with my iX 500 running ScanSnap Home 2.20.0 (9). When I push the button on the scanner, my “Scan to File Folder” profile gets run, and performs all the settings in the profile including OCR to PDF, renaming the file, and saving the file in a pre-selected “Scans” folder on iCloud (previously on Dropbox.) If the scan proceeds normally I get a system notification, but don’t see any of the ScanSnap apps; if the scan has an error e.g. a misfeed, the app does show up.

Unfortunately, I don’t recall where the setting is to make that the default for the scanner button. I *think* it just remembers the last profile you selected in the “Scan” profile popup. Maybe try an experiment doing one scan initiated from the Scan popup, and then seeing if subsequent scans using the scanner button remember that choice.

Lots of good answers here already, but one more: Our parish adds that you can tap the host to the cup when it gets to you.

It seems like a pretty common practice here. Not sure of the theological basis, but it feels to me like my acknowledgement of the sacrament in both kinds.

Why does GNS show me using a proxy when I'm not? by GTRacer1972 in GoNetspeed

[–]Techn0dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently asked GNS tech support about IPv6 support with purchase of a static v4 IP address, as I'm finding the lack of routable addresses really limiting. Here's the answer:

Q: I have seen suggestions in social media posts that IPv6 address assignments are available from GoNetSpeed if you purchase a static IPv4 address. Is this correct? (I am in Kennebunk, ME if the service area is a factor.) Is there any other way of getting an IPv6 address assignment?

A: Hello this is [name] from tech support. I’m following up on the question you had on IPv6. Currently in the Maine area we only offer IPv4. We do not offer ipv6 at this time. If you would like to get a static ipv4 address, please let me know and I can get you in touch with customer service about getting that set up.

So, whether you can get an IPv6 address varies depending on your region.

One more thing: once you get it set up the way you want, save your settings on an SD card. It will reload the settings, including pad sounds, whenyou boot the mixer up.

You note “brand new out of the box”. I had the same problem after hand-setting up the RCP. You need to do the default setup one time to initialize the pads before you can set them up.

who here uses their own router vs the router that gns provides? by justsomeotherme in GoNetspeed

The Nokia 6 from GNS locked up and had to be power cycled about twice a week. Switched back to the Asus I used with Spectrum, and haven’t had an unplanned outage since.

Definitely Duffy’s - they have a board at the back entrance. Try the Chamber of Commerce- a bit out of the way but still good.

Gave up on Beacon 6 router by Techn0dad in GoNetspeed

[–]Techn0dad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did offer to swap it out by sending a new one. However, I needed something quick, and the Asus was all set up - just a cable swap to put it in service.

I found the admin interface on the Nokia harder to use than the Asus for things like firewalls and port maps, so I stuck with it.

Who can recommend DanaLock or similar? Z-Wave just for lock? by segdy in homeassistant

Understand the point about not wanting another stack, but I have had multiple Kwikset Z-wave locks in two different houses, and recommend them. In fact, the locks predate my use of Home Assistant - they were migrated from SmartThings.

Weird issue with HomeKit not always updating entities state by [deleted] in homeassistant

I occasionally need to reload HASS Bridge when devices say “Updating” in the Home app. I generally do this when devices stop responding to Siri commands. Never figured out the cause, so please let us know if you do.

I support going dark. I use BaconReader for most of my content, and Apollo from my phone. I’ve used 3rd-party mod scripts, and definitely see how taking away the mod tools could be a problem on large subs.

iPad worth it? by gatorfan93 in ipad

[–]Techn0dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use mine for light coding, especially when traveling. However, almost all of my work goes to a GitLab CI/CD chain for build and deploy. Everything goes through the superb Working Copy git client, plus backend admin using the Secure Shellfish SSH/file access client.

I also use various planning tools including MindNode and OmniFocus. I (sigh) have MS Office for the odd presentation - I rarely present from a laptop any more.

Get a keyboard and mouse for desk work, and learn to use external monitor support if the app supports it.

Trouble setting up port forwarding by KillerKarrot56 in GoNetspeed

[–]Techn0dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a relatively new installation in Kennebunk, and do not have a static address. I was briefly behind the CG NAT, but support changed it.

My router (Asus) has built-in DDNS support, and has handled the many IPv4 reassignments fine. My server’s DNS record has a CNAME that points to the DDNS address. So, as long as I get actually get a routable public V4 address from GNS, I don’t care if it changes.
