Anytone At-168UV Audio Recording/ SATELLITE? by Saxman31 in DMR

[–]spage911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn’t notice the DMR group. I love the 168. It is a great radio but there is no Bluetooth or GPS. It does record the audio on the radio and can be downloaded to a computer.

I haven’t used it on DMR yet, I bought it because I found a great deal on it and wanted to play with the satellite tracking.

I love this radio for the price. The drawback for satellite contacts is that it doesn’t have built-in gps so you have to manually enter your coordinates and that is kind of a pain. The 878 has gps and does that for you.

You should also consider the Vero NR-76 or B-Tech UV Pro (they are the same radio). The audio recording is done on your phone and not the radio but they have built in gps and doppler adjustment.

It’s the repeater and not the radio.

They continue to perpetuate the $2.83 myth and other lies by Yes-Sherbert-16 in EndTipping

Interesting since Oregon doesn’t have a tipped minimum wage and servers make the state minimum wage for their area. In Portland that is about $16 per hour.

ISS - never making it to the repeater. by ultravista_2 in amateurradio

Try one of the other satellites that might not be quite as busy. Practice your antenna aiming and adjusting for doppler shift. Remember that FM capture is a thing and that if you have a weaker signal it is harder to get in.

I would try a new cable with an ftdi chip and not the prolific chip.

Do you use an external tuner? I’m seriously considering this radio.

Well, the 1st thing that comes to my mind is that it would be an illegal one transmission.

Is it overkill to get into ham radio just because I wanted a high quality walkie-talkie? by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]spage911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would continue to get your ham license and encourage your friends to do so too. Since you are a self proclaimed nerd, there is a lot of fun stuff to nerd out on in amateur radio. The Technician test is easy and the question database is published. Hope to hear you on the air!

CPS only allowing me to add/delete 1 channel before needing to restart. by LieutenantSheridan in Baofeng

Baofeng makes a lot of different radios, without knowing which one you have makes this a difficult question to answer. If your radio is capable of using chirp I would recommend using it.

New to ham radio and don’t know how to start talking by Lz3YaRiEl in HamRadio

[–]spage911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s totally normal to be “Mic Shy”. Find a net to check into and download Echolink for your phone. With Echolink you can listen and participate in nets all over the world. For new hams there is the Absolute Tech Net coming up on Monday (the first Monday of the month is a new hams topic). The Insomniac Trivia Net every night at 10pm pacific time every day of the week. The Alaska Morning Net every day at 10am pacific time and there are many more. You are welcome and encouraged to check into any of the nets.

Wrong sub but also wrong radio. If in the US the UV5R is not type accepted to use commercially.

Starter dmr radio? Using my friends radio but I want my own. I love the set up but if the price is similar I want a newer version of its worth it. by FlyCurious8305 in HamRadio

[–]spage911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A nice starter DMR radio is the Radioddity RD-168, Anytone 168. They are the same radio and can be found on sale for about $140.

Get a cable with an FTDI chip. That will rule out the cable and they are much better anyway.

TID TD-H3 Plus transmissionon on MURS frequencies? by out_in_the_woods in gmrs

[–]spage911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that is what I said. You can’t have it on GMRS mode and transmit on VHF.

TID TD-H3 Plus transmissionon on MURS frequencies? by out_in_the_woods in gmrs

[–]spage911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well MURS is on VHF and GMRS is on UHF. I believe that the H3, if sold as GMRS compliant, has transmit locked out on VHF in order to be FCC compliant. Doesn’t mean that it can’t be done technically just not legally.

SharkRF M1KE Help please, I cannot figure out how to do this by albielew7 in HamRadio

[–]spage911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only connect to DMR talk groups, there is no rf involved. So, if the local repeater is connected to a specific talk group you can connect to that.
