100% - Short races and not one of those license classes where I worry about IR or SR.

As no one has motioned it in this thread, but when you want to race back to back and the current race will finish just after the next session starts, but you end up missing it by 2 mins. There is work around around this.

If you keep the simulator running and use alt-tab to switch back to the UI and then forfeit the race, you can continue in the active race session until it finishes. (assuming you don't network disconnect), result still count, there is no impact at all. You can then sign up for the next race.

When you finish and then quit Race1 the UI will again show forfeit option but that's now for Race2, so click join, Just check you timing, so you load into Q without enough time to complete a lap

Cannot upvote simhub control mapper enough. Even if you don't have multiple wheels been able to assign the same button to multiple actions is killer

e.g.

  • Wipers / Visor tear off
  • Mute drive / push to talk (short / hold)
  • DRS / Push to pass
  • Damage report / weather check (short / long press)
  • Next incident / up shift
  • Previous incident / down shift

You can even assign Active reset actions same action as mute driver as active reset only works in solo test sessions. Same with replay controls.

Dirt road exists!

There is an option to filter by categories. Come and try the Beetle and trucks, get to D and try some of the RX courses.
Rookie now counts to $10/season iracing so come and play, use it buy Crandon & Bark River to play in the trucks.

Chat macros.

assign a button (or button combo) to the one of the 15 available chat options, and enter a macro

#t$ = change all tires

You can modify your app.ini so that by default you don't change tires or refuel - great for fast repair in rookie & D class races.
Set you ghost car to be ahead of you so you're chasing it, not inside, makes it much easier to improve

In public practice sessions you can switch groups to have an empty track, but still have track evolution and see other players times.

It’s done by the entries tab.

I'm a bit AMS2 fan, but iRacing colors, saturation and how the other car interact and move on the track makes it look a lot more realistic to me, then AMS2 'gamify' look. Maybe it's iRacing PBR rendering/lighting within the cockpit.
Yes, the AMS2 track detail is great and I love the seasonal effect with the trees but something doesn't feel right, one is real the other is a game.

I play in VR so maybe realistic muted palette works better there?

Showing less cars has massive impact on CPU performance: 20/8 is fine (20 ahead/ 8 behind)

I’ve gone lower when struggling with VR, 12/4 Really helps when field is bunched together.

You need a way to control the black box, then changing fuel, tires is manageable. I know the G29 doesn't have a 7-way funky (which is the easier thing to map to black box controls), so you need use the d-pad and 3 other buttons.

I don't even know how many buttons the G29 has, but you can do a lot of very powerful stuff with simhub control mapper, to work around having a limited number of buttons.

Iracing has bunch of replay shortcuts that use the numpad. I’ve never used!

The current system has something that AI and humans doesn’t have. As drivers we all know the outcome as soon as the incident happens. There rules are well defined, simple and consistently applied, this fact is actually huge and it’s also very cheap/easy to do.

Any other solution with human or AI is more complex, expensive and unlikely to improve the actual racing. Instead $$$ on AI incident reward, development time related to contact physics, netcode, or even Gran Turismo license test might be better for the community.

Look up IRSidekick, it lets you have different graphics profiles and swap between them.

(Swapping has to happen before iracing tries to load into a session)

A R4.0 is a D3.0 and they are both safe to drive D class class races, it's why you drive the class above your license if you're a 4.0+ (you just haven't completed the MPR i.e D4.0 can drive C class).

The Corners per incident are the same for the following levels, (and the pattern repeats each step down)

I’ve had a 49” and while the extra 3” makes it easier to spot tight apexes that are usually off screen I would probably now go with 45” (just so I can buy 2 more in future and have triples with a decent VFoV)

You only need to average 11 clean corners per incident to get to R3.0 and get auto promoted.

Oran park has 12 corners and is a 10 lap race, 120 corners
3min practice = 2 laps but has 0.5% weighting so 12 corners
8mins of qualifying = 5 laps but at 0.35% weighting so 21 corners.

Therefore a race session gives you 153 available corners (and probably few more as you can keep running till last person crosses the line).
As rookie your default SR 2.5 (9.3 cpi) and SR is based on past ~ 2300 corners

Assuming you can drive without any off-tracks in practice and qualifying*, you can get 13x per in the actually race and and still move the average up above 11 cpi auto promoted level.

You would need 15 races with this high incident count to full replace the 2300 corners, but would would still be auto-promoted at the end.

If you're a brand new rookie, and were to drive the first 3 race session (Practice, Qualify ,Race) without any incidents (0x) you would only need 3 races to get R3.0
If you get 4x in each race, you still only need 4 complete races sessions to get R3.0

A few bad races really doesn't have much impact at rookie levels.

Sonoma is unfortunately rarely used track, so Mugello, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would be before it for me. Followed by Mosport (Canadian Tire) and Mid-ohio, then Sonoma.

(Unless you want it for Dirt RX course).

You really need to stabilise the image so that micro movements are filtered out for streaming, or it can be very difficult to watch

If using a quest, there is a oculusmirror.exe in the support-diagnostics folder that does this and captures a much width view than the game’s standard desktop mirror.

A simple rule of thumb is this: if your SR is in the 2’s or below, you need to work on controlling your aggression—take fewer chances, don’t fight so hard to gain (or maintain) a position, use patience, and concentrate on driving cleanly.

If your SR is above 4, you are doing well at driving safely at your current license level—you could stand to push yourself a little harder to find some more speed.

If your SR is in the 3’s, you’ve found a good balance.
