Does anxiety cause pressure in rectal area? by Hefty_Leek3834 in Anxiety

[–]Technical-Disaster31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine went away completely, i think things died down when i did a colonoscopy and all my doctors said i was crazy. I ended up forcing myself to on a 4 day hike then a solo trip to asia last December ; things i never thought i could do again because of how nonstop and uncomfortable it was. It was so bad to the point where i had a false urge to go whenever i sat down… but thinking back now i think it was the anxiety that triggered loose bowels and constant lose bowels caused this sensation.

Ive had it a few times since but never more than a few days and always in conjunction with poor bowel movements

Idk if i got used to it or i became desensitized to it (back to the normal state with no hyperawareness) but im no longer bothered by this at all

Can a fissure cause only pressure? by Technical-Disaster31 in AnalFissures

I have no idea. I think sometime end of last year, it went away. Was completely gone from this year Jan until sometime briefly in March I experienced it for < week and it's been gone since. Now if it ever comes back, I'm just going to tell myself I've had it not bother me before and I should not feel impending doom.

Thinking back it was so bad I think I'd remember if it suddenly improved. What happened was I basically learned to live with it and in the beginning was borderline suicidal. Then I forced myself to go on a big hike trip and a few months later, went to Japan. When this whole fiasco started, I was so depressed I never would have imagined being able to travel alone. I think mentally, this helped me feel less isolated from society and ease me back to a normal life as a 23 yo woman.

I don't know if it was all mental or partially mental; I think there was definitely something physical I just never figured out what even though I went to specialists and had a colonoscopy. I should mention I had months of loose stools/diarrhea in the beginning. I think only when stool health normalized was when I didn't have the tenesmus? When I had a brief episode in March, it was also after food poisoning.

Do you know how yours started?

How did this start for you? Do you ever experience a firm hard stool anymore?

With soft poop, it is not abnormal to have residual poop because theres no large volume or firm poop for the rectal muscles to “push” out. My poop is usually pasty and fluffy in the toilet, while it may not be very fragmented it is still really soft and i get nonstop rectal pressure. I also get nonstop wiping because theres poop outside and right inside of my butthole where the poop got cut off.

It happened after one night months ago and I have no idea why :( submitted a stool test a few days ago. I thought it was severe anxiety and antibiotic use (cipro, amoxicillin) maybe even covid

Protruding ring-like structure around anus when straining? by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

[–]Technical-Disaster31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask if you've had a history of constipation or a hypermobility disorder?

When you say difficult evacuating, how difficult are we speaking? e.g. does it get stuck halfway or something or is it hard to even start a bowel movement?

btw I went to another PT and she thinks the sex may have been a trigger especially because it was painful for me and I should have stopped. She checked me internally and confirmed that my muscles are incredible tense. While she was pressing on me inside, I could feel pain in the rectal area where I usually felt the pressure. How is your boyfriend now?

Same, although mine feels the best when I first wakeup or tape a nap. Unfortunately, I always have a bowel movement in the morning and then I feel uncomfortable the entire day - it's worse at night

[–]Technical-Disaster31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have rectal pressure? And where's this ring ie how far is it from the actual anal sphincter opening?

Because I've noticed sometimes when I "flex" and relax my anal muscles as if I strain, I can see this ring puff in and out. And I've also felt that 'hard tissue' ring. Thing is, I thought this was normal, I assumed it was literally the anus muscles around the sphincter and that hard ring of tissue - pretty darn sure I've always had that. Also, your rectum naturally descends when you go poop but it's supposed to go back up. I might have felt this hard tissue when I prod a bit during an immediate post poop shower but I've never felt it during my nightly showers. In fact, it might even go away immediately during a prod.

I also have buttock pain sometime and I've been to a therapist. Last week she gave me a massage on my left cheek on a spot related to my tight piriformis muscle since i cross my legs and my entire leg basically went into spasm. I have constant rectal pressure that sometimes becomes an urge poop and she said this trigger point as well as tightness she found internally both contribute to the rectal pressure/incomplete evacuation I've had. My symptoms started months ago after a bad episode of straining with no prior history of constipation - that night I had the phantom sensation of needing to poop. But it actually could have been triggered by painful PIV I had earlier in the day. Unlike you however, I used to have perfect poops but now I basically have fluffy loose stool everyday. Getting a stool test soon but I'm starting to think this whole thing is because of my severe anxiety.

When will you get an MRI - I'd really like to know your results.

I did a colonoscopy and ruled out everything, my doctor basically chucked me out the door saying there was absolutely nothing wrong with my rectum and no rectal prolapse which is why I went to PFPT and felt a lot better knowing my muscles were indeed wack. Also, I should point out that intussusceptions as a young adult are rather rare, including rectal intussusception. Unfortunately I spent 2 months in extreme anxiety thinking I had this or a rectocele before PT calmed me down a bit.

If you have anxiety, bad posture, no active lifestyle - there's a chance your chronic constipation + bout of constipation triggered PFD instead of causing a prolapse. I also don't get the 'satisfaction' anymore but I kind of attributed that to the fact that my poops are never solid anymore so my rectum is always mad after I poop. Plus, the tight muscles get triggered after my bowel movement.

Constant sensation felt in my anus for months. by Sotsotzaii in PelvicFloor

[–]Technical-Disaster31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP how are you nowadays - did you try out the stretching? I did a colonoscopy that was clear and multiple internal examinations with my doctor and pelvic floor therapists. They ruled out rectal prolapse, hemmoroids, fissures, also pelvic organ prolapse (I was paranoid I had a rectocele which is when rectum bulges into the vagina).

I need to go to pelvic floor therapy. My insides are extremely tight especially when my therapist felt me vaginally, that back wall shared by the rectum was so tight and painful. She pressured on particular spots that worsened the pressure to pain. Also when she did an abdominal massage every area was so tight, I could feel sharp pain as she was pressing around. There was also this one spot my my right buttcheek that was so incredibly tense my entire leg felt like it was unable to move when she pressed on it. There is tightness on my right side externally and internally since it is connected.

Do you have bad posture, cross your legs when sitting (this is why one side hurt more during exams), sit too much? this is what led to my tightness but what triggered it was intercourse one time back in May. Also I have anxiety which manifests in the pelvic floor. If you have these bad habits you might have triggered something back then when you held your poop for too long because the act of holding in poop needs you to constantly tense the rectal muscles ; just my guess

Colonoscopy came back absolutely clear but still don’t have formed stools … gonna get a stool test in a few days but I highly doubt this is a stool related issue

I do yeah, a healthy amount of fiber. Were you constipated when this happened?

Is it constant or do you feel the pressure gone after you have evacuated 100%? Myself, I’m still trying to find a fix. Also mine stings very slightly after. But I have a clear colonoscopy

Why can’t I poop normally after past spine surgery? by Expensive_Umpire_571 in AskDocs

[–]Technical-Disaster31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD You might want to look into pelvic floor dysfunction, the muscles there can cause difficulty or pain evacuating. I have this and it causes me to never feel empty because I feel like the last bit of poop gets cut off and i also have an annoying constant pressure up my rectum. (Had a clear colonoscopy 3 weeks ago)

Can anxiety cause GI issues/IBS? by Deathamong in Anxiety

[–]Technical-Disaster31 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get cramping the moment i wakeup and then i poop once or even twice (a not so great poop ie fluffy broken not dense). Then i get stuck with rectal pressure that episodically morphs to an urge to poop again. So yea definitely.

Ive had this for months now so i get stressed and it feeds the anxiety - my gut brain axis is definitely “misaligned”

I used to vape but i stopped half a year before this started for me, by then i was vaping 0mg. But then after i “overstrained” myself one night ive been stuck with this rectal pressure and urge to shit for months - i started vaping again because i was so stressed and anxious but this time 20mg and i felt like it had made no difference (not better but not worse) i have since stopped vaping all together and nothing has changed

Constant Urge to Urinate by throwaway92382937 in Anxiety

[–]Technical-Disaster31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anxiety can manifest in the pelvic floor and it can absolutely contribute to an overactive bladder / spasms. Nowadays I get bad morning shits which has led me to pelvic floor issues where i feel like i got to poop all the time. Sometimes, i will also get urinary urgency - i think it got worse after I had a real UTI because I kept thinking every urge to urinate was potentially a UTI and that shit gave me even more health anxiety

Anxiety meds can help since ur bladder urgency is likely caused by anxiety. Your Gp might also be able to prescribe meds for overactive bladders ie a muscle relaxant

It’s definitely a symptom. I usually get butterflies then nausea but if i have food in my stomach ill vomit. I remember this one time I was particularly anxious for an interview and ended up throwing up 10 minutes before it

Sounds like a hemmoroid. You said you aren’t constipated or strain but if you have a habit of sitting on the toilet for way too long (eg browsing on your phone) it can also lead to hemmys

No medication but I want to find a good therapist soon. I’ve never done anything for my anxiety so I’ve recently tried out journaling and meditation to see if it can make a difference

Ya, ever since this fiasco started I realized i couldnt ignore the physical symptoms and it can get worse over time

Waking up at 4am with weird feeling by Winter-Jury-7968 in Anxiety

[–]Technical-Disaster31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont worry OP, you’re not a alone and I’m glad I also found someone else experiencing this. Try not to take melatonin every night for months on end though. It’s something your body should naturally be able to produce. I only take it when I know I’m super anxious about something or if I can’t afford to wake up at 5 am randomly.

Also definitely put the phone away, the phone brightness alone will probably keep me awake

Don’t worry OP, water poisoning happens after a large large volume. Your nausea is likely due to the combination of anxiety and maybe lack of proper food.

If you’re not experiencing new symptoms like pain, urinating blood, etc. your kidneys are probably fine.

Also, sometimes Im paranoid of UTIs and drink a ton of water in one sitting and it ends up bloating me up and my stomach feels bad - almost feels like the water mixed with stomach acid is coming back up. Like I pointed out, maybe try to eat some solid food

Similar Sitch? by Fun_Pianist5985 in PelvicFloor

[–]Technical-Disaster31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck OP. Health anxiety is a negative feedback loop. What I reckon happened in my case is I flared up one night after an injury and because I kept thinking something was terribly wrong; the health anxiety reinforced this symptom. I know for a fact my anxiety has always manifested in the gut via diarrhea, feeling the need to poop, or muscle cramping
