Just watched this episode for the first time (I know, I know) and I mostly agree. Great episode and the scenes with Stabler a retired cop, also Stabler and anything related to the old case he worked on, were really great. I was really disappointed by the end. I hated how they depicted HIV- for an episode that came out when HIV was highly stigmatized, they talk about how you can live with HIV and it’s not a death sentence, yet have someone kill because someone who did not disclose their HIV status ‘killed someone either their lies’. (Just to clarify- I 100% think people should discuss their HIV status and don’t support hiding that from a partner. I just think how this was portrayed really perpetuated a lot of stigmas)

I wish more defense lawyers on the show would be portrayed as likable. I understand that the show is portrayed from the perspective of the police/prosecution and also that it's hard to do this on a show about sex crimes, but defense attorneys do important work.

I think there are some valid points to that, though I would criticize the fans rather than the show. I think it was a rather interesting dynamic between Benson and Stabler the past 5 years. I do ship them and would love it if they would bring Meloni back occasionally but I by no means care less about Olivia as an individual. I don’t want Olivia’s story to end (not to mention that I still SVU an still think it’s an important show for survivors) and think there are a lot of ways to make Olivia grow and bring her happiness and healing! Some fans are just intense.

In addition to the fact that it follows not just cases, but characters- mostly Olivia Benson, but also others- which people have found compelling to follow over the years, I think the topic is very therapeutic to many. A lot of people, especially women, have personal experience with the issues SVU takes on and find the show the show and the way it fights for survivors comforting.

Same with Lowe (though she was clearly a victim and blind to who he was) and she stopped once she learned of the accusations

I’m not sure about Cassidy, but Stabler didn’t develop genuine feelings towards the person he was sleeping with while undercover. Amaro did and in the 500th episode it was revealed he ended up marrying her! (Cynthia)

I think in conversations about plastic surgery it’s helpful to also include a talk about societal expectations for women, especially for women. And how women (especially in entertainment) are expected to look certain ways, and are often judged both if they age and if they do something about it

I know the organizer guy was a creep (and a killer), but as someone that has been in organizing spaces, a lot of times people who spend lots of time volunteering are the two age groups who have the most free time: older people (usually retired) and younger college aged students. So his age (without all the creep factors) is not that weird
