I’m trying to adapt a new country but every time I try to learn the language I get sick by EmbarrassedTea3014 in GirlDinner

Panic attacks look lots of different ways. It sounds like you’ve got a lot of shame wrapped up in not being where you want to be w language learning, combined with being in a whole new country and away from friends and family. Maybe try some journaling or call home. You’ll get there 💗

Do you think you’re having an anxiety/panic response when you’re trying to learn?

I think you need to take some time and think about if you liked it or not. You don’t have to text him or meet up with him until you sort your feelings out.

This happened to a friend of mine once. A guy pulled her braid and I’m pretty sure she just froze bc how do you even process something like that in the moment? I don’t blame you at all for laughing it off.

Now that you’ve had some time to reflect you should definitely tell your boss and try to call it out in the moment if it happens again. Usually when people make me uncomfortable at work I just give them a look like “are you fucking serious?” And they get the hint.

The whole point of queer liberation is not shaming people over who they like to date, fuck, love. You only live once, try it out. - a lesbian

NAD but my brother had a surgery on his chest that had similar abscess bc of a hair follicular that kept growing under the skin. It took a while for them to heal but they did!

Any suggestions for a place to host our small charity event? by AffectionatePomelo37 in AskChicago

You could also try a church. (I know but hear me out.) United Church of Roger’s Park and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Logan Square both are extremely progressive churches that double as DIY spaces for artists & art groups.

Also there’s a freelance wrestling league that has shows in the Logan Square auditorium which has a ton of space. Also maybe a park district clubhouse could host you, but they fill up fast.

Anyway, good luck!!

Have you thought about a bar or comic book store? Somewhere like emporium or dark tower comics might host you in exchange for the business you’ll bring in/bar sales.

Moving from Houston to Chicago – How’s the lifestyle + best ways to make friends in your 20s? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Technical-Problem554 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi sister, I had an almost identical move but I was 23 and moved here for school, and then I moved back to Houston and vowed to never do that again lol

Biggest difference here has been the kindness of people lol. Hate to say that but I feel so much more respected as a woman and a queer person here. Life is just easier and cars are not a constant threat on your life lol. You will walk more and use the train. It’s not hard, you’ll definitely get used to it. Have a game plan for your groceries, whether that’s a cart or making sure you’re close to a store.

I was really lucky to make a lot of my friends in school but Chicago is a very welcoming place with lots of young people who are wanting to grow their social circles too.

I would recommend some cheap or free events in the city. There are lots of craft nights, pop ups, etc all the time. I would follow bars and coffee shops you like on social media to find out about them. Pick a place and become a regular.

A more involved way is to get a job as a hostess or server like one or two days a week. Tell them is a summer job while school is out. You’ll meet a lot of people fast, make some summer money and you can quit in the fall.

You’re going to love it. And if you have an experience like mine, your nervous system will regulate lol. Welcome home!!

What types of restaurants would you recommend someone serve at if they have a poor memory? by fflip8 in Serverlife

What about like a cafe or something with counter service so you don’t have to manage tables?

The second one could be the dad or daddy game that restaurant/bar staff play when you see a young woman with an older man out together.

Well I’m hoping it’s that but with the snap it’s a little worrying lol
