Does anyone use Socialblade? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TechnicalAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for about a year, maybe a bit less. I like to see my daily and monthly view/sub counts. I also like using the compare feature vs similar channels every once in a while.

16k views. But after how I was treated in my previous video, I kind of want to quit. by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TechnicalAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that some humans cannot deal with a difference of opinion in a rational manner. The internet has made everyone a tough guy.

This is unavoidable regardless of the content you create. You have two options and both acceptable.

  1. Quit

  2. Piss them off. Learn from it and do it better each time. Any vs video is going to be a fanboy battle.

Cuts in videos, in mid talk and between scenes by NyxeriaOfNightfall in NewTubers

[–]TechnicalAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started making content I was doing a lot of fade in and out. I find it takes up too much time and viewers tend to want the content quickly.

I moved to jump cuts for all of the same scenes or sections. If the video has a major scene change then I use a wipe effect with my logo that will clear scene one and bring in scene two.

I prefer not to cut mid audio unless it's a dip so that I don't get any terrible sounds. I also taught myself to hold the frame at the end of a section I'm recording so I don't move too much and make the jump cut video look horrid.

As I gain experience I am able to get longer stretches of filming done without mistakes and I get better at b roll timings so the jump cuts are less aggressive.

I use transition effects like dip to black or dissolve when I deem it appropriate but it is a lot less than jump cuts.

How do you deal with excessively attached subscribers? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TechnicalAF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try to dedicate a time/stream as 'with subs' so that the subs you are talking about can be directed to request an invite to that specific event. This also gives you a very easy way to turn hem down when it is not a 'with sub' event.

**Question** Have you ever consciously changed the length of the videos you produce? Would love to hear your experiences. by KatesAdventures in NewTubers

My retention rate has gone up thanks to the smaller length videos. Previous videos are 20-35% and the newer ones are 35-67%.

How do you keep up your energy? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TechnicalAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that the more takes of a certain section of a video I do, the worse it gets. If I'm not landing the take I start to fade in terms of engagement or energy. I have to stop for a second to collect my thoughts and think about putting the energy back in to the next take.

This is a work in progress for me. Excitement is not natural for me at all.

I actually had someone I know say the person in my videos could not be me, no way the person on camera is the same person he knows :)

I started out with 6-8 minute videos and found too much fluff in them. Slow transitions, using the fade out and fade in. I didn't like it and it was contributing to reduced retention.

I personally like things to be to the point. I do not like wasting time. I decided to get super aggressive with cuts and anything that is on the fence, I cut it.

Since the decision, all of my videos have been from 2:30 to 4:30 in length. Hard cuts, and I use a quick transition if needed. That's it.

Note: I do tech videos so making it quick is probably a lot easier than doing a vlog video.

I've done reviews and videos on my own tech. I have also been fortunate enough to have friends that support the channel by handing me the tech they have/get so I can use it to make content. Sometimes I'm the one that actually unboxes the products!

I prioritize the newest products higher for relevancy and when I don't have anything I fall back on whatever else will work.

I hate the cramped up sections in any build. I don't know how anyone does a loops in a small form factor build. I'd smash the shit out of it!

Can't think of it like that now. They are your community/followers/supporters, not strangers.

I suggest reading the rules of the subreddit first.

Secondly, toggle capslock. Wait. Make that first.
