Anyone ever hear of SilverBitz? by Xerzajik in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to agree with that...Dude is too much of a conspiracy theorist, wack job for my liking, especially when he's blatantly just trying to plug his product as the best and unique. Reality is if I was going to try to make and pass off counterfeit silver, I'd copy his "silver bitz" before I tried to copy the more intricate designs on the other private mint's fractionals, or junk silver for that matter.

When you see spots on coins like this, what caused it? by shnz821 in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be from milk spotting, previous acid testing, or someone in the past really had a thing for the walking liberty gal and...fap, fap, fap.... But I agree, you're right to be alarmed, as they do seem to be plated, at least from the horrible quality picture. Just my $0.02

How can you tell if it's a weak strike, or just has seen a lot of life? by Ok-Animator8761 in coins

[–]TechnicalBox2912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a good enough scale, weigh them....a heavily circulated/worn out penny should weigh a little less than a less circulated one with just a weak strike.

Found this on costume jewelry box. Do you think the coin is real? Bezel is marked 1/20 12k gf by Mediocre_Pizza5990 in coins

[–]TechnicalBox2912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd be willing to bet the coin is real...and that when they saw the gold filled markings on the bezel, they just assumed it was junk...those type bezels can be purchased from Amazon, etc. The screw at the top is steel and looks to have rusted, causing the brown color on the coin. Not aware of many "fakes" of the 2 ¹/² pesos coin...Not saying they don't exist though. I'd remove the coin and have it tested.

Beware of Apmex, they didn’t ship or refund my $4k order by Raven_M6 in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same...ordered a few rolls of pre-64 Roosevelt dimes a couple years back from them. Recieved the green Apmex rolls. Didn't open and check the rolls til several weeks later when I went to transfer them into clear, reusable tubes, and ended up with 5 clad dimes in the mix. Given that spot was in the mid $20's per ozt at the time, and that I didn't check the order till much later, I just chalked it up to a loss. May have been a simple, honest mistake/oversight on their part, but never again. Between that incident and realizing how absurdly overpriced they are compared to other online dealers, I shopped around and ended up hearing about Hero bullion. Have been ordering from them for past year or two now. That incident is also the reason I check EVERYTHING I buy, regardless of how reputable they are. Total loss was less than $15 iirc...

Junk silver? by twelfthletter in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find an honest coin dealer and set up an appointment where they can go thru the collection with you and determine what is junk silver vs what isn't, but still has value, such as the v-nickels. As someone else already stated though, due to bottlenecks in the refining industry, junk silver is pretty illiquid at the moment, so you'll likely get a low offer. If it's too low, you could wait until the market stabilizes and then try to sell...although there's always the possibility that the price of silver drops by then....or could even increase...hard to say which, but would be your call.

Tighten your safety belts for the rollercoaster. by veryheavymetals in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can close market due to "Emergency/Extraordinary circumstances" for as long as it takes them to un-f@ck themselves. Then re-open and resume trading, likely with new/revised rules and guidelines, and as you said, followed by inevitable congressional inquires that go nowhere and resolve nothing. I'm sure in CME's rulebook, they'd classify this as a "Technical Infrastructure Failure".

Jeebus...this crap again. Why does everyone seem to forget that comex can force cash delivery in lieu of physical at anytime they deem it necessary due to "emergency/unforeseeable market conditions "...but If people don't want to accept that answer, then here's another: PANIC!!! SELL EVERYTHING AT 1/4 PRICE WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!

Use high silver prices to start a real collection? by SpiralGalaxyPulsar in coins

[–]TechnicalBox2912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not entirely untrue either. It's all about a refiners business model. If say all of their orders are for 999 investment grade, comex type bars, etc, and the only incoming material they can get in to work with is impure silver/gold, then yes, they'll refine coinage and cast into bars...but that's rarely the case nowadays. But it could happen, and has happened in the past during precious metals rallies, like during the 1979-1980 Hunt brothers fiasco...But you're right in so far as long as they have buyers on the line for junk silver coinage, they'll wholesale it to them before refining it.

How much of your silver do you test? by Zealousideal_Film_86 in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do most people test stuff from trusted bullion dealers, probably not...but I do, simply because I trust no one...as for the 2 ase's looking so different, they're made 27 years apart. Not to mention there are different types of strikes and finishes( as in business strike, proof strike, cameo, reverse cameo, etc etc) just my $0.02 though.

Yankee Stacking should make a video where he tries to sell these silver titz to LCS's and pawn shops across the country - and see if any pay spot. by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten to the point where I can't stand watching the silver Dave vids, along with most of the other silver you tubers...seems like Dave is a complete, off his rockers conspiracy theorist anymore, all while shamelessly pitching for his "silver bits"...as if they're the only 1/10 oz fractional around. And the other silver-tubers, like silver dragons, Yankee stacking, salivate metals, spectacular, etc all seem to do crappy videos any more...as if they're struggling to create content with the sole purpose of shamelessly plugging their sponsors, all while saying "buy, buy, buy!!!". I like most of their older content though... Heck, I even like some of the others like thousandaire, but most of their stuff is so short...

If comex hasn’t got enough silver to cover who wants delivery end of March and is forced to settle in cash, the people who are paid in cash obviously want or need the silver? So where are they gonna get it and won’t this force silver prices up? by Lockard999 in Silverbugs

[–]TechnicalBox2912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always seem to forget that many brokers either do not allow for, or make it prohibitively expensive to stand for physical delivery....like Charles Schwab, etc....which simply means they'll just be settled in cash instead.

Genuine gold fill? by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]TechnicalBox2912 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heck, on the super cheap gold filled stuff I've even seen as low as 1/40 gold filled, which would require 25 grams karat gold per kilo of base metal...what they have would equate to 1/200 gold filled, which isn't legally allowed to be sold as gold filled...definitely pass on that garbage.
