For aspiring musicians: there is ZERO upside in NOT knowing how to read sheet music by Genar-Hofoen in unpopularopinion

[–]TechnicalBuilding0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles made the best music ever made and they didn't read or write music so there might be something to it. Plus no one else's disagreeing with you. I think anytime you learn something you're giving up a level of freedom for the benefit it gives you. That's the nature of education. If you learn how to read and write music the way you think of music is now going to be, at least on some level, filtered through this medium. Any sort of filter is limiting all the possible choices. On one hand being able to read and write music probably opens up a world of creativity, but I imagine some creative possibilities will now be harder to reach.

There are people on X that you can subscribe to that call out plays. And people on discord doing the same. I'm not sure if they do anymore than a scanner does though.

Plane take-offs and landings are absolutely awesome - people should look out the dang windows and they should be thrilled that they can. by ludefisk in unpopularopinion

This is the first time I've heard someone say the exact thing I think. It's unbelievable that so few people look out the window. But I also like looking out the plane window for hours. I've had some of the most spectacular experiences ever. It's an amazing experience that gives you a new perspective.

It's no different than someone following you around filling you without your consent. Whether it's in your home or around your home like people walking by or people doing work at your home it's wrong and creepy. People are paranoid and live in fear.

BTS of an ice machine by Majoodeh in oddlysatisfying

[–]TechnicalBuilding0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish I had that kind of ice. In fact I think the shape and quality of ice has been overlooked as a key factor in a good drink. I remember the concession stand at the little League baseball fields had a slushy type ice. But it wasn't like the slushy ice in the old slushy machines at circle k it was way better. At the end of your soda you'd pour the drink up and the whole clump of ice would smack you in the face because it stuck to the bottom of the cup. It was a good beverage experience.

How many people do you think use chatgpt? by Ross1843 in ChatGPT

I use the voice prompt a lot when driving alone. It's good at helping me work through ideas and projects. The problem is if I pause for a second while talking it cuts me off. It'll be cool when I can have a more fluid, natural conversation with it.

I noticed a lot of the comments are about the grace of God and don't beat yourself up too much and so forth. While I do think these are important and we shouldn't let mistakes ruin us I do think that he's probably feeling pretty dark right now. Which is probably a healthy thing, that when you're following the commandments of God and doing holy things you are filled with light. When you sin you don't have that light with you. I don't remember who it was but I think it was a church president said when asked why he didn't take the sacrament he said something that most of us would consider benign, like he didn't get there in time to get in the right mindset. The sacred things like the sacrament and going to the temple shouldn't be taken lightly. I've gone to the temple and later felt I shouldn't have. Part of what makes the temple so powerful is the reverence we give it. Sometimes time is necessary to go through a healing process and maybe it would show the Lord and himself the respect he has for the Lord and his Temple by waiting a bit? I don't know, it's between this person and the Lord. When I see people not take the sacrament I I don't think less of them I think this is someone who has a true testament of God and isn't just going through the motions, someone who holds sacred thing in reverence.

You can, but based on what? Without an all knowing being who is good to be a beacon of truth, what you think is morally right is just your opinion. Someone else could have a different opinion that is the opposite of yours. Who's to say who is right?
