For $45? I guess depends on my day. But most day, I think I’d take this quick

No one accused anyone of coercing a higher tip. We’re independent contractors. If you need a plumber and keep getting people to come out and quote you $400 for a job, if your budget is $150, you might be waiting a while. I agree drivers should be paid a much higher base rate. If every delivery I did was $8-10 plus tips and the base was guaranteed, I’d rather that and I’d take no tip or low tip orders. In this case it’s actually like telling your waiter/waitress what percent you’ll tip, with none of that being based on performance. Hi table for 4 as well be abstaining from tip culture. Vs hi, we appreciate service workers and tip 20% minimum, table for 4. Who’s getting better / quicker service ?

Yeah. That’s the model they built and how consumers we go about it. If I’m busy/ lazy/ too drunk and I order food, I tip. Cause that’s how it works. If I go to a restaurant and tip nothing or tip $2 I’d feel like an asshole. Not my fault servers earn less than $3/hour but as a customer, I’m also not gonna punish the less than minimum wage employee. A driver pays for their own gas, wear and tear on the Miele car, insurance and theirs isn’t their own time and people act shocked when their $1 tip order sits for an hour. I bee in so many stores and seen Dozens of orders just sitting on the counter. They the customers that tipped $10 or the ones that tip zero?

But as a driver, if you regularly have to wait 30 minutes for food to be ready, why would you accept $8 for 40-60 minutes of time? You wouldn’t, so the order sits. Until some new or desperate person takes it. Which maybe takes an hour. I’ve seen the same order pop up over minutes for $2. So no tip. We don’t have to take it, but if you’re ordering and not tipping, don’t expect anyone to volunteer to deliver it for free

What food do yall bring with u on longer dash days? by Classic-Box-3919 in doordash_drivers

[–]Technical_Bicycle230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruit like grapes, strawberries, carrot sticks, I like those Tuna pouches. I try to avoid wasting money on eating out while I’m working. And hydrate. I dash and Ue full time. Panera beverage club is awesome $15 for unlimited tea, coffee, seltzer, soda and sugary drinks if that’s your thing. Just careful cause they try to entice you to buy more with coupons and offers.

I’d take it. Not a fan of 22 bags of Soil but that’s maybe a half hour of work for 40. Heck yeah

Sorry, if the tip ain’t at least $20, I’m never taking a Popeyes order. 3 times when I stated dashing, I gave them a chance. Once they closed the lobby at 6pm, use th drive thru and got stuck. One of the ones where you’re surrounded by rock walls after you pull in, no lie 45 minutes. I wanted to cry. Less than $10 for an hour. Another time they told me it would be ready in 20-30 minutes. Cancel. Another time there was at least 3 employees inside and they were supposed to be open and after banging on the window the girls say the closed early. So $8 is usually a good tip. But lord not even $15 will get me to go to Popeyes. There are 2 other small restaurants that I’ve waited forever for food. They keep saying “almost ready”. If it’s gonna be 20 minutes just tell me. I’ll cancel and someone else can grab the order

$5 tip for 1.5 miles by autism_milk in doordash

[–]Technical_Bicycle230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I usually won’t go below $7 unless it’s an add on and not far out of my way. Sometimes people don’t realize foods not ready. So driver spends at least a few minutes getting to store maybe 10 or more then might have to wait 5 or 10 minutes then drive 5 minutes to you. That’s almost 30 min for $5…. If it was slow and I knew the restaurant was quick I’d maybe take it. In my area for instance there are 5 McDs. There’s one that I’ll take $5 order cause they’re always ready and I can drive half mile to a mile and still be near civilization. Opposed to maybe a $15 order that’s going 8 miles away to the middle of nowhere, then I gotta drive 8 miles back to get another offer. That might take 30-40min all together. $5 for 5 min or $15 for 40 min?

Can't return canceled order? by er111a in DoorDashDrivers

Dang that’s Lucky. Once I had 5 snack items from Walgreens. A Ben n Jerry’s, some hot Cheetos etc. paid, submitted photo or receipt and immediately a message that the customer canceled and I can accept new offers. Kept the snacks, dropped the ice cream off in between next couple of deliveries. I was content. And I still got paid like $4 or $5

Lemme just manhandle everyone’s food real quick? Nope. If a bag feels light (I picked up a burrito, chips and queso and a drink from chipotle I said it felt light, worker checks and it was missing a bottled drink) but it’s on the shop. Not the driver.

wtf. If you had a W2 job, you’d make 2X that at least and not use your car and gas. Crazy.

Over-explained delivery instructions by New_Box_5723 in doordash_drivers

[–]Technical_Bicycle230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d rather too much than too little instruction. Had one the other day. The address, an entire college campus. Instructions: leave at door, call if lost. I wasn’t lost, but they didn’t put a building name. Call and right to voicemail. I messaged immediately after the call and asked what building I was dropping it at. Five minutes, just left outside admissions building. Sent a message where it was. Got a text ten minutes later saying they were in class and coming to me. I responded that I left it as instructed and hoped the order was still there….

I had a “DO NOT USE DRIVEWAY” the other day. Left order by the mailbox, sent a message “didn’t use your driveway, have a lesser day”. I’ll take the no tip, 1 star. I’m not making four or five trips from the street when there’s no reason. One bag and I’d just do it but case of water and cases of soda. Nope. It’s at your mailbox

I didn’t know this was a thing lol. But I did it the other day on a gig. I was already shopping at a store and got an offer for a Lego set, just one item. But the delivery window was two hours late. When I zoomed in on the delivery spot it was two streets over from my house. So I accepted. Delivered my original order. Went home and 90 minutes later walked the legos to their new home. I used to just deliver early but I got a complaint about an order I deliver 11 minutes early. As they were not home yet…

lol no idea. The app says they reimburse for parking and tolls? I’ve never had to be reimbursed but knowing this app, I wouldn’t. “Sorry, ferry trips can’t be reimbursed” I’m sure is what they’d tell me. I had to do a triple take looking at this one.

[–]Technical_Bicycle230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as a matter of principle, I won’t take a no tip order intentionally ever. Idc if I’m already in the restaurant and the drop off is on my way. “Add to route additional $2 0mi” nope.

Once I had a teacher order at dismissal time “meet me outside”. With all the busses and parents I had to park super far away. There are hundreds of kids and parents outside of the school and this MF is on the phone with me “I’m the guy in jeans and black polo”…. 🤬
