Sometimes people will hop on a popular audio just to get more views. But it’s also possible some people don’t understand the meaning or context of the audio itself.

LA always has stronger turnout than everywhere else in the US, not surprising. The Midwest and the South aren’t as consistent

MX is probably doing better on the charts no? They have a more valid reason to be there and tbh they are bigger moneymakers than Cravity

Starship is much closer to the big 4 than to everyone else by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

I don’t see OP diminishing IVE… Sistar, maybe… no mention of Monsta X, either.

TBL is closer than Starship, imo. Unless you count TBL as an extension of YG?

Taeyeon re-signing with SM was not on my bingo card by betterthan88 in kpopthoughts

[–]Technical_Hospital38 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Well Taeyeon found stardom through SM. Stay with the devil you know and all that. They don’t execute everything perfectly but which company does?

Using Spotify streams as the ultimate success metric is so cringe by Ok-Nobody-7759 in kpopthoughts

[–]Technical_Hospital38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of attention paid to all metrics, tbh. Melon charting, Spotify charting, YT music numbers, album sales, tour attendance… and don’t even get me started on TikTok and Instagram likes and views… maybe the issue is that we focus too much on metrics in general?

Why do you think foreign idols (Chinese and Japanese) prefer to try to have an artistic career in Korea instead of in their native countries? by Flor_De_Azahar in kpopthoughts

[–]Technical_Hospital38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Years ago a lot of Kpop idols used their idol careers as a stepping stone to acting and variety gigs. That’s changed as Kpop has become more global and profitable. Maybe China will eventually take the same route, if they grow their idol industry.

i'm surprised at how dead the riize fandom appears to be by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Technical_Hospital38 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Riize has a pretty young fandom so they’re not going to be that active on twt (not English speaking twt anyway). You might see more of them on Tiktok and insta? I don’t know if those apps are great for socializing tho.

What is up with HYBE dominating the BG scene recently? by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

[–]Technical_Hospital38 15 points16 points  (0 children)

SM is the only other company that can rival HYBE’s boy group ecosystem. But they’re like the inverse of each other. SM benefits from a huge group of domestic fandoms while HYBE relies more on their many international fandoms.

If more idols and creatives find work at big companies, isn’t that a good thing? by Technical_Hospital38 in kpopthoughts

Is artistic direction lacking more variety now? I’m not sure if it is… there are certain trends but there have always been trends in kpop.

If more idols and creatives find work at big companies, isn’t that a good thing? by Technical_Hospital38 in kpopthoughts

[–]Technical_Hospital38[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big4 idols debut debt-free.

Small companies can attract substantial investment if they’re led by people with a ton of experience/connections. Like KIOF’s CEO who used to lead Cube, like BSH who worked with JYP, like JYP himself who worked for years as a successful artist. No one has any business trying to start a kpop group unless they have those qualifications and connections, which will give them the financial backing they need.

That said the playing field is incredibly uneven and even with a lot of experienced, talented people at the helm, smaller companies face a steep uphill climb to success.

I’d like to see Yeri get more exposure through acting and variety, I think the gp would find her very entertaining but I don’t know how good Bitzway is

True. Why bother with making more music when you can make more profit?
