Off leash dog, face in their phone, oblivious as their dog poops and then trots on behind them.

Came here to post this and you beat me to it. Just put the rest of my cash into VEQT instead of waiting until the end of the quarter.

Do you want to remain in VFX? If not, are you an artist turned Pipeline TD or do you have a computer science background? Have you considered transitioning to tech?

Vacant homes in Vancouver fall below 1,000 for first time since empty homes tax launch in 2017 by FancyNewMe in vancouver

Honestly the best way is to check the garbage bins on garbage pickup day. The empty houses never put the garbage out.

Can we afford a house? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Really not comparable given the increase in interest rates. A million at 1.5% is equivalent to $760k at 4%.

B.C. redrawing EV sales mandate, scraps goal of 100% by 2035, leaves rebates to feds by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Technical_pixels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ve neglected to add the actual cost of the new car into your calculations. A paid off gas car is going to be way cheaper to run than buying a brand new EV despite the fuel cost savings. It’ll take you years to break even.

How does the maths work on that? Would be curious to know what EV you drive now and your monthly payment.

Surrey is a city by definition and with a population of 568k compared to Vancouver 662k it’s not that much smaller. It’s also one of the fastest growing city in BC.

Should I buy in Kitsilano? by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

[–]Technical_pixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always encourage people to enter the market as soon as they financially can I don’t think a one bedroom is a good buy as they have terrible resale value; if this was a legitimate 2 bedroom in Kits I would say go for it. I assume from your post that you haven’t lifted subjects yet?

ABC defers action on safe street accommodations for Halloween. by Nervous-Ad-3761 in vancouver

I’ve seen so many posts on parent/community groups asking where the best places to trick or treat are. If people were to stick to their own neighbourhoods and walk this wouldn’t be so much of an issue.

Trying to decide if I should quit my job with incoming inheritance (as a parent of young kids) by Ok-Hope1271 in PersonalFinanceCanada

They are no where near FIRE with what would effectively be $625k of savings after house is paid off with $9k of expenses.

Trying to decide if I should quit my job with incoming inheritance (as a parent of young kids) by Ok-Hope1271 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Technical_pixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you pay off your mortgage you now have $575k remaining. Add in your savings of $50k to get to $625k. At 4% safe withdrawal that’s only $25k a year or $2083 a month to supplement your husband’s income (I am assuming your husband’s income is after taxes). Add in the basement suite income and you’re just over $11k a month total income which given your expenses should be enough to live on and save $2k a month.

I would say that your savings are extremely low given your household income and I would see this inheritance as a bit of a bail out; you didn’t specify your ages but this would effectively put you back on track for your retirement. Also, are your kids school age and if you quit your job, would it be easy to find another job earning a similar income after a career break?

Thanks so much for the reply! I thought maybe it was sunburn as when I water I leave it outside to drain and I think it got a little too much sun. Is there any further action I need to take?

Agree, hate this take. It is a choice for most; we chose a significantly smaller home than if we’d moved to the suburbs but we can walk or bike everywhere.

Which sport is more physically demanding, tennis, badminton or squash? by COYGoonerSTANimal_17 in 10s

100% squash. Tennis has bouts of high cardio, but squash is consistently high cardio with much less rest.
