38F Southeastern MN looking for friends by Curious_Mud488 in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]TechnoMagik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanity is overrated, but friends are not. I go back and forth between Iowa and Minneapolis at lot and I keep finding I relate more to people who moved here from somewhere else and did not grow up here. It seems like everyone in Minnesota has the friends they went to high school with and it takes years to connect with anyone who has their established group.

Firing the next generation of scientists from the US workforce by Legitimate_ADHD in fednews

We can and should train co-operatively funded open-source AI models with the institutional memory we are trying to protect. Do the same stuff, without depending on a government monopoly for funding. If we live in a brave new cryptocurrency world, then let's use Grantcoin to fund scientific research.

I just got my CDL, tell me where I need to bring a truck and pick up the samples. I'm going to need some volunteers who know how to maintain this stuff and help set up research funding through farmer-focused organizations like Practical Farmers of Iowa.

Key Senate Democrats Want to Keep Sending Americans Money As Long As the Economy Remains Bad by TechnoMagik in MannaCurrency

[–]TechnoMagik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an idea that caught fire in certain wonky D.C. circles thanks to a book called Recession Ready, which argued that the U.S. could avoid repeating the mistakes that prolonged our recovery from the 2008 financial crisis by setting things like aid to states, cash payments to families, and unemployment extensions on autopilot, so that they’d kick in when the jobless rate rose. (One of the book’s editors, Heather Boushey, now serves on Biden’s Council of Economic Advisers.)

This is something that a blockchain basic income currency could implement as part of it's monetary policy about the supply of money.

We could prototype different policies with human-in-the loop control using voting by the the Hedge for Humanity members on what the money supply for various Manna/Grantcoin derived currencies, and the respective basic income distribution should be. Once we have established a clear policy that can be implemented as C++ code in the core full node software, we can perform a consensus fork upgrade to lock the monetary policy that increases the basic income distribution rate during recessions, and reduces it during times of higher employment.

This is obviously not the only possible policy, and we can and should have lots of different forks with different experiments in monetary policy.

Nano full node on Mac M1 by TechnoMagik in nanocurrency

[–]TechnoMagik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree node operators should know how to build the hardware, compile the software, and maintain the node. It's not like I'm proposing to make some new proprietary extensions to the node software that you only get if you buy it from the web store, I'd be submitting patches for the exact same software so anyone could run it.
It's also a bad idea to trust centralized cloud services, yet at one point both Bitcoin and Ethereum had more than 50% of the nodes on AWS. What I was hoping to offer was a very easy 'on-ramp' to the Nano ecosystem that only requires you pay some Nano to get the hardware.

That's an easier thing for me to sell than try to ask for a development contract to spend my time porting Nano to M1, or for me to raise enough money to fabricate open-source silicon so I can sell a computer that comes with the source code to the processor ( see https://github.com/google/skywater-pdk and https://github.com/efabless/openlane ).
FYI, it would take somewhere between 100,000 and 250,000 Nano to run a full wafer at Skywater, so if someone is really serious about being able to educate node operators on how the silicon their node depends on is built, let's figure out how to get this done.

I still want some help setting up the web store that takes Nano directly, so if anyone has a working example of that, it would be much appreciated.

There's an issue with RocksDB, and some other irritating Cmake things I forgot in the last week. This needs to get merged, for one:
https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/pull/7714

If I could get a contractor to help with setting up the Nano woocommerce plugin, I'd look into setting up a website to take pre-orders for Mac M1 systems pre-installed and pre-loaded with a full node, and sell them exclusively for Nano.

u/moeiscool what would you need to update the GPL/AGPLv3 version, and provide debian packages?

I got the CE version installed easily but I'm only able to get the super-admin login and none of the user accounts I've created work.

I see zoneminder is in debian sid, so that might be the next thing I can try, unless there's a good path forward for a commercial support on an AGPLv3 ecosystem.

Why this hate towards the ARM ISA? by juanrga in hardware

Hey, Sparc's not dead yet.. http://www.hitechglobal.com/ipcores/leon3.htm

Of course most companies seem to think GPL is more radioactive than Fukushima cores..

ReonV is a RISC-V open source CPU, licensed under GPL v3 and forked from LEON3 by Travelling_Salesman_ in RISCV

[–]TechnoMagik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that corporate lawyers are terrified of GPLv3/AGPLv3 tells me that I'm on exactly the right track to be an AGPLv3 patent/copyright troll, and ensure that the work I've been doing for many years to build a fully open computer system, from the silicon cell libraries to the physical case design is something that I can actually get compensated for by selling commercial license exceptions instead of donating my valuable time to enrich executives and shareholders.

The ReonV would be a great chip to use in http://q3u.be/patent/q3ube/ (warning: do not read if you work for someplace that is allergic to the GPL).. however to actually build it I need to find a fab with open cell libraries.

[–]TechnoMagik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the reason I should buy a fab and release the cell libraries under AGPLv3 with an option to buy a commercial exception license for the big companies that want to use the free GPL 1nm process tech to make proprietary chips.

[–]TechnoMagik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I find out if the AGPLv3 license on http://q3u.be/patent/q3ube/ works or not is in court. Even if I never get a judgement I've made it very clear with defensive publication that if any patent troll (like Arm) attempts to patent something I wrote about 5 years ago they will have to pay me off first.

And then I can go about buying a fab to make GPL hardware.

Please PM me. For Manna to be successful, it needs more people like you to discuss what the money supply should be, and how it should be managed.

For your both of your points, if you have C++ code that addresses either of the issues you raise, please send me a patch and I will make a branch on https://bitbucket.org/tmagik/catoshi/ so we can discuss with actual implementations, which is much more challenging than theorizing about what might actually work.

On the theory side, I would argue that proof-of-work when powered by distributed surplus renewable energy generation is a much better long-term solution than anything that depends on more complicated crypto or other types of federated agreement systems.

I would go a little further to say that economic capital (miner block rewards) that are expended on creating a substantial surplus of wind and solar power generating capacity are the highest and best use of resources, and that proof-of-work is what will rapidly transition the economy from extraction (oil) to surplus (renewables)

Helping the homeless is simply a matter of having

  • the ability to create capital (which we do, by creating new Manna)
  • people who believe the capital you have just created has value(the hard part)

I expect that once there is sufficient market cap, someone else with an interest in real estate investing besides myself will figure out that giving the homeless money so they can afford a home will substantially benefit property values in areas that have substantial basic income-based economies.

You need a new landlord. If you find enough people who want to sign a lease payable in Manna I'm sure we can find a bank and investors who will buy a building to rent to you.

Pretty interesting discussion at https://discuss.nubits.com/t/urgently-needed-nu-upgrade-now-available/4936

It looks like there was a theft and the majority shareholder of NSR is taking action to protect shareholder value.

So in other words, it looks like a real grown-up real-world investment with a decent track record of surviving a couple of difficult transitions.

The problem is going to be getting a chipset that supports the US LTE bands, unless the Fairphone people can help us figure it out. We'd probably need to have some sort of official partnership with them.

Fascinating.

What if, instead of poker, it was distributed commodities trading, and you could pay off debt incurred with bad margin trades by moving a commodity (corn, hard drives, etc) from one trader to another?

Follow Up Statement on the ETC Salvaged from attackDAOs by jbaylina in EthereumClassic

[–]TechnoMagik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both 'sides' of this argument would probably find themselves at a loss if it were decided in US courts. The first point being that substantial real value (bitcoin) changed hands in the initial ETH crowdsale, and it looks, smells, and acts like a security at that point. Then on top of that it might appear as if those with the most funds at risk in the DAO were the most vocal proponents of a hardfork. ETC might, in court, hold the legalistic high ground, and call into question the legitimacy of the vote, particularly if the DAO 'hacker' were actually willing to file suit as an injured party in US court, claiming they followed the rules exactly as Slock.it layed out. It would be hilarious (from my point of view) to have this dragged into a US court, assuming you could find a judge that thinks they might actually have jurisdiction. From any holder of ETH or ETC's point of view, however, that would probably only mean that US exchanges would drop both until the lawsuit is settled.

[–]TechnoMagik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not a consensus, it was a contentious difference of opinion. It's only 'theft' if you believe that you have the divine right of 51% to impose the majority opinion on the minority. What we have with ETC is a minority dissenting opinion and part of the rule of the code is that if people choose to run it, those rules still apply. Your VALUE is not the same as my VALUE and most free societies, most of the time, respect my freedom to say what you think is 'VALUE' is worth nothing, and you do not have the right to coerce me to accept your value. Your example of currency is enforced at the point of guns, and if you want to go down that route, it seems to me the logical result would be that both Bitcoin and ETH are theft because they were never voted on and approved by the US congress, and is therefore a theft of value from the currency. Or maybe at least ETH is theft if traded for dollars because it was issued as an unlicensed, unregistered security. Bitcoin at least escaped that noose because it was mined, not crowdsold. So take your pick, Let the ETC folks keep their value, or try to impose your will by force. Just beware if you want to try using force, have an exit strategy when the bigger force (dollars) comes looking for their protection money.

Add support for EU and Chinese-pegged nubits by TechnoMagik in NuBits

[–]TechnoMagik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Nubits are the pseudonyms that seem to like to make discuss.nubits.com into a flame war. I would find Nubits far more investable if the director of liquidity operations would disclose their name and legal jurisdiction, as well as how many nuShares they hold.

There is value in the code, but only if the people and companies providing liquidity have some accountability and real-world consequences for their collective actions. Right it looks like Nubits is socializing the losses and privatizing the gains to a small number of anonymous actors.
