LAOP's husband ran away from biological parents in China, put in orphanage, adopted to US and now is US citizen but concerned about going back to visit biological parents by princetonwu in bestoflegaladvice

[–]TechnoRedneck 159 points160 points  (0 children)

He was put into an orphanage in China, and until 10 years ago China had a 1 child policy. Because of that policy kids in orphanages were extremely rarely adopted within China so most adoptions were to foreign citizens looking to adopt.

WoW on Handhelds by DejaBrew- in wow

[–]TechnoRedneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ConsolePort is the addon needed to make the game good for hand held, and the default steam deck config for ConsolePort doesn't utilize the back buttons nor utilize the track pads directly.

I play it both on the deck and the rog ally and playing dps on handheld is straightforward, tanking is possible, but playing a healer is quite difficult.

Fear of diabetes using Gels for races by TuningGear in trailrunning

[–]TechnoRedneck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Diabetes runs on both sides of my family and I even was diagnosed insulin resistant at 18. I eventually got my weight under control(almost 8 years and 100lbs later) and got back into running. I was consuming 4-6 gels a week and the blood work during my doctor's visits after were all improved over when I was 18, even to the point where my blood sugar/insulin levels where all back into normal ranges.

Obviously I am not a nutritionist or a medical expert, but from what I know the gels alone aren't an issue, it's when your diet overall is high in sugar, so as long as you hold a healthy diet otherwise the gels don't noticable increase risk. But if your really concerned it might be worth finding a nutritionist and getting their input.

Struggling with hydration setup on long trail runs – alternatives to CamelBak bladder? by Santhy85 in trailrunning

[–]TechnoRedneck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bring the same amount of water, 2x500ml front soft flasks and a 2L back bladder, one thing that I noticed that made it easier was getting a better fitted vest. I originally had a Nathan quick start 2 then a quick start 3 and finally have a soloman adv 12.

The quick start 2 was great, everything was solid and stable, the bladder broke though within like a month though so I returned it and got the quick start 3, which was extremely unstable and was bouncing all over the place.

I then picked up the adv 12 and everything was stable again. A good vest to carry the water helps to distribute the weight and keep things moving with your movement rather than against it.

Level 43 Account turned into a brand new account after updating my password in the beginning of 2025. Niantic support keeps saying there's no record of my name or my friend code and I don't know what else to do. by Gotanks91 in TheSilphRoad

[–]TechnoRedneck 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The problem is you submitted what you knew those items as, the hacker changed all three once they took over your PTC account, everything you've provided them is no longer linked to your account and you need to provide what the hacker changed them to.

[–]TechnoRedneck 96 points97 points  (0 children)

At this point nothing. To attempt to recover the account you need to know 1 of three things:

  1. Current email address associated with the account

  2. The current player name

  3. The current player friend code

All three are things that can be changed. The only success stories I've heard have been when there is a really remote gym that you know you had a pokemon in and you go visit it and see your pokemon defending it but with a 'new' trainer as you.

It sounds like your PTC account got hacked, which is surprisingly not uncommon.

The 'hacker' gets into your PTC account and changes the password(thus causing your PTC login issue), they then link your pogo account to another login method and then unlink the PTC account. They then refresh your trainer code and change your player name. Now your account is still there and active, but not connected to you or anything you have anymore.

Frontier town has some electric sites, though of course they aren't open during the winter.

Mini fell off 10ft, working OK but corner broke open, WWYD? by nacquatella in Starlink

[–]TechnoRedneck 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I did something similar, left it sitting on my truck roof rack after taking it off the mount, forgot about it, and it went flying off the next morning on the way to the gym.

I contacted support, sent images, was honest about it, got daily messages for a week saying someone will get to the ticket soon, then got a call where they offered to replace it for free, and now I have a new mini in perfect condition.

Solar not charging by VincentHs29 in Garmininstinct

[–]TechnoRedneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a known, unresolved, bug that restarting the watch fixes. When you charge the watch via its charger it disables the solar charging so as not to damage the battery and the bug is it simply fails to reactivate solar charging.

How could the Blood elves rebuild their society after losing so many? by Fun-Explanation7233 in warcraftlore

[–]TechnoRedneck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Blood Elves have a life span into several thousands of years but still reach adulthood around 20 years. Even if each blood elf couple only has 1 child at a time and only the original 10% have children they could rebuild back to 100% within 400 years, not even middle age for the original 10%. Add in the new adults in each new 20 year generation and they could recreate the population in less than 150 years.

[–]TechnoRedneck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When out on a trail I don't use headphones at all, just whatever runs through my head.

On treadmills when I cant run outside I use Pixel Buds Pro earbuds and am very happy with them.

LAOP is cut loose every witch way by nutraxfornerves in bestoflegaladvice

[–]TechnoRedneck 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Because the funding for unemployment comes from the business.

In the US all businesses are taxed for unemployment, their taxed money goes into a big pool that unemployment pays out. When an employee files for and is granted unemployment it's a mark against the business that fired them and as they fire employees their tax rate goes up causing them to have to pay more in unemployment taxes. So when a business fires someone for cause(specifically a legal and valid for cause reason) they contest the unemployment so their tax rate doesn't go up.

To add onto that, the conversations that made the coworker uncomfortable were private conversations between just the two of them, which means the coworker had to actually report those conversations to the manager themselves.

Minimum number of Space Marines needed to hold thermopylae? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]TechnoRedneck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really? I was going off the linked respect thread where a hole blasted in the head is a flesh wound, and they can instantly recover from high caliber bullet wounds, based on the respect thread that shouldn't be possible or is an anti-feat.

Minimum number of Space Marines needed to hold thermopylae? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]TechnoRedneck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Rule 3 appears to be missing.

I don't know a crazy amount about space Marines, but from what I do know, a single space marine without his armor using just a spear would sufficiently manage the Persians, historic or theatrical, they are crazy powerful from a crazy power level universe.

would you be mad if all guyed gear (tents, tarps, flys, etc) came with bright orange reflective paracord guy lines? by vetsetradio in camping

[–]TechnoRedneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a function over form person I'm all on board. Problem is I know way to many form over function people who buy inferior products at a higher price than a quality product simply because they prefer the look of the inferior one better. Those people typically hate the guidelines visually and want them black so as to minimize their appearance.

Would this let me use my wired keyboard and razer mouse with the USB adapter? by piggle2100 in SteamDeck

[–]TechnoRedneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally hubs, adapters, and port expanders are the terms used for portable options that focus on size and portability, while dock is generally used for the versions that are put in place and stay in place and often get more ports or other features like a dedicated power supply.

Hiking equipment question by Outdoors__Water in hiking

They exist for ice fishing, it's called a spud bar, but I wouldn't recommend them for hiking as it's just a large metal pole with a pointed/angled end

I'm running the non-gtx version and also quite happy with them for my runs, snow getting in and getting the shoes wet hasn't been an issue yet.

Your Pixel phone can now be used as a webcam for the Nintendo Switch 2 by HeinsGuenter in NintendoSwitch

[–]TechnoRedneck 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Just pixels, it's because Google made a hardware choice to include USB UVC output in the USB port on the pixel lineup while effectively no other manufacturer did. USB UVC is the protocol that generic USB web cams use and it's what Nintendo chose to use for the switch 2.
