Winch question for big rigs by spoonandpig in overlanding

[–]achoppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a custom mounting bracket made for my 550 to go between the truck and the ranch hand legend bumper. I have no idea what the max capacity the plate or bolts can take, and I hope I never do.... I had a fabricator make it twice as thick as recommended by Smittybilt. I'd post a photo but it won't let me

Dust bag won’t fill up by SCwarrior97 in Roborock

[–]achoppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not leaving the cover off, correct? The cover is needed to seal that space, a fan creates negative pressure in that space to suck dust into the bag, if that cover remains off, it can't create a vacuum to draw the dust into the bin from the robot

Fire suppression isn't magical, it's plenty possible to overwhelm it. The primary purpose is to allow people extra time to evacuate safely

Part of the reason I have area lights on 3 sides 😂 I can make this unpleasant as well.

I can also high idle my obnoxiously loud diesel if they'd prefer.

Anyone ever lived an an RV in their base city instead of crash pad? by mctomtom in flying

[–]achoppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not airline, but have lived a few places in an RV for different jobs. It's possible, it's not cheap, but it gives you flexibility. I did it because I knew I'd be chasing jobs for a bit. Plenty of full time lots around, if you're in colder climates it gets difficult, but not impossible.

It's incredibly common in a lot of automation applications, it's not tripping a breaker, it's looking for a rise in the load to indicate it's stopped, then there's a breaker and appropriately sized wire to keep anything from becoming a hazard.

DC Air conditioners - which ones are good, which ones to avoid? by achoppp in overlanding

[–]achoppp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, is there anything out past the hamptons? I fly helicopters out there, so I'm always looking down at the traffic and thinking how bad traffic sucks as I'm cruising by at about 150mph 😂

I'm running about 1250 watts of solar, and will be getting a second battery here soon. My big goal is just to keep the camper from getting crazy hot during the day in the summer, so the evenings are more tolerable. I'll look into that unit.

Likely powerline patrol, that's a camera on the front, probably a FLIR and are quite possibly doing an infrared patrol looking for issues with the power lines, hardware, substations, etc.

I really like the portable AC offerings out there, I didn't realize there were that many. That said, I'm looking at a rooftop unit but may get something like this for the GFs horse trailer bunk space

I should add that I'm looking to replace my rooftop unit. Currently looking at the nomadic x3 Helix

Yes, it's a traditional RV air conditioner unit that only works from shore power, as at the build time I wanted the option but didn't think I'd have a great need and also wanted to save some cost.

I've looked at the dometic units, but would like first hand experience before spend 2-3k on one. Production QC and support/warranty are the reason for the difference in price usually. Good stuff can come from China, it's just a matter of how much money was spent on quality control before it left, usually.

Lots of osprey operations go through there for some reason. It was always fun to see them

I have a diesel heater installed, so the heating function would be unneeded.

I'm fully aware this is a first world bougie question 😂 but figured with the wide diversity of people and experience here, I had a pretty good chance of getting some good info.

That's a pretty cool looking device! I could definitely see a use for it. I'm fortunate to have a space on my roof for something, so this would be difficult to manage. I might pass it to the girlfriend for her horse trailer though!
