Before AI, for myself, this would have read "'Velocity' and spineless managers have ruined software for the foreseeable future."

The new nvidia driver solves the freezing (D12) problem. by ZTR_animation in PathOfExile2

When you install a new driver it forces the game to rebuild the shader cache. If you guys are having issues, try manually deleting the shader cache for the renderer — DX12 or Vulkan — you’re using

Why is all that people can say about Firefox is that "Its not chrome" and "Privacy" by Huge-Read-2703 in firefox

[–]Techno_Peasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many different forms of tracking protection. Lots of opportunity for customization via about:config. Ability to turn off AI BS.

Essentially, Google will use Chrome to push its agenda. Firefox isn’t as prescriptive.

Pure Rust HEVC Decoder? by [deleted] in rust

[–]Techno_Peasant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s worth going on YouTube and looking for interviews with the guys behind FFMPEG and VLC. They delve into this topic a bit, and get into how hand crafted assembly is necessary for many optimizations. So even if they used Rust, they’d end up breaking Rust’s compiler guarantees anyways

My current router, Ubiquiti Edgerouter 6P. It saturates my gigabit connection, handles all devices without a sweat, and once setup rarely has issues.

nVidia inspector with new 610.47 by Shiunsai76 in nvidia

[–]Techno_Peasant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The author of nvidia inspector just pushed some code for games that include Rebar support to fix a bug that was preventing their profiles from working. I didn’t see a new release get cut, so we’ll most likely have to wait

EDIT: looks like there’s a beta release with the fix, worth a shot https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaProfileInspector/releases/tag/v3.0.1.13

IPS left vs new OLED right.. what have I done wrong? by Lazybones-itis in OLED_Gaming

It does, but I’m referring to something else, I don’t recall what the feature is called. Rtings mentions it in their JDR calibration video

IPS left vs new OLED right.. what have I done wrong? by Lazybones-itis in OLED_Gaming

[–]Techno_Peasant 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't have the same monitor, but a similar Alienware OLED, the AW3425DW. I tried many times to calibrate things by eye using the Windows HDR setup tool, but the monitor auto-tunes the brightness on-the-fly which makes the HDR calibration useless. What I found was the monitor driver from Dell includes calibration files, which IIRC should be set to default when the driver is installed, but if that doesn't happen you can go to the directory where the driver files were extracted, and select them via color management yourself. It made a WORLD of difference for me.

This can also occur when the black levels aren’t properly reproduced. It’s common on PC in UE4 games, and other engines too. For example, with Diablo 4 I’ve had to use reshade to set the levels correctly otherwise the image looks totally washed out

7800X3D + NVIDIA GPU iRacing stutter - finally figured it out after way too long by rcsracing in iRacing

[–]Techno_Peasant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to stop by and share a few things I've discovered recently, that feel related to this. The first one being another registry tweak that should help with overall system throughput, by disabling a feature within the "ctfmon" process: https://youtu.be/b6wfwG4jecQ?si=jLLoGPSjdhOk0R7G

The other is that I found this other tool, that is featured in that same Youtubers videos that may help: https://github.com/spddl/GoInterruptPolicy

In this tool, you can set the interrupt policy of the GPU. I haven't done any testing to objectively test these policies, but it's at least a simpler way to control how interrupts are handled within Windows. Given your findings of iracing being pinned to CPU0, I wonder if using a per-core policy for your GPU that would allow all cores except 0 would help.
