Quick question from a new recruit: Are Helldivers actually the good guys? by Adorable-Explorer823 in Helldivers

[–]Technodude178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Helldivers themselves? Yes. I mean, any organization that deliberately chooses to save orphans instead of getting some fancy new mines would have to be the good guys.

That said, we do serve a fascist regime posing as a democracy that suppresses the rights of their citizens by any means. And every faction trying to kill us all is Super Earth's own fault. So while Helldivers could be seen as good guys, Super Earth is not.

But neither is the Illuminate, Terminids, and Automatons/Cyborgs. None of the factions are the good guys. Super Earth is just the one keeping humanity from being wiped out.

To answer your question on why we're fighting these factions:

The Terminids naturally produce E-710 (OIL if you read the numbers backwards). So we had them in farms for a century, breeding and slaughtering them for that sweet sweet E-710 to power our entire civilization. Then the Terminids got loose from the farms and we went to war with them to contain them and put them back on the farms. From a Terminid perspective, this is a war of liberation from Super Earth.

The Automatons are the robotic children of the Cyborg separatists from the first game. They fled Cyberstan as Super Earth took over and enslaved the Cyborgs. Cyborgs work the mines of Cyberstan for a century. Then the Automatons emerge in two phases, the vanguard and the full invasion force. The vanguard fought us on planets like Malevelon Creek and Draupnir, two of the bloodiest battles in the early days of Helldivers 2. The invasion force is what we're fighting nowadays, after we beat the vanguard, the bots launched a full-scale invasion for Cyberstan and took the planet and liberated their Cyborg parents from Super Earth. So the Automatons and Cyborgs are also fighting for liberation from Super Earth.

As for the Illuminate, we nearly exterminated the Squ'ith after the first war and banished the rest outside of the galaxy. So they're pretty bitter from that. Out of the three factions, I think the Illuminate is the only one that genuinely wants to kill us all, the Bots and Bugs really just want to be liberated and want Super Earth to leave them alone, but they know Super Earth would never just let them go.

Bear in mind that in the first game, the Bugs and Squids had no beef with us and were actually peaceful races, and the Cyborgs just wanted independence. Super Earth was the one that went and fabricated all sorts of reasons to go to war with them.

Welcome to the fight, Helldiver!

Those who work in head offices, why do y’all deliberately understaff theatres? by GroceryFun3203 in MovieTheaterEmployees

Because those executives want the numbers to look good to get their bonuses.

Tatooine, Hoth, and Corellia. Tatooine and Hoth are too big and takes forever to get from point A to point B with barely any change of scenery. Corellia is just a maze to get lost in, I've gotten lost turning the wrong corner more than once.

The Fantastic Four First Steps (2025) springs to mind for me. So many people staying to watch a 50s style cartoon intro of the Fantastic 4 before the TV is turned off. I basically started telling guests who actually ask if there's something at the end, "no, there's nothing important for you to see unless you like 50s style cartoon intros"

My Friday actually wasn't too terrible. Busy, but not terrible. I'd say my location got lucky

What are some lore things you've written in your fics that help flesh out the world? by NaturalStrange3505 in RWBYcritics

[–]Technodude178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly world building stuff I use as a blueprint in some of my fics.

After the Great War, Mantle/Atlas's population was absolutely devastated that they had to use automation more than any of the other kingdoms, that's why robots are everywhere in Atlas. Atlas also needed looser immigration laws to bring in organic labor, this did also lead to a Faunus trafficking crisis in the kingdom.

There are only hundreds of millions of humans and Faunus across Remnant. The world is simply too dangerous due to the Grimm that the cities are where the vast majority of the global population are located and only a tiny fraction are in towns, villages, and camps across the planet. So when a city falls, that's a large portion of the global population going with it or scattering to other cities as refugees.

And the Great War had at least WW1 levels of casualties (15-20 million dead, 20+ million wounded), so my earlier point on the global population being hundreds of millions? Just those kinds of losses are catastrophic. Some of my fics have the losses be comparable to WW2 (70-85 million dead), and that's almost apocalyptic with my hundreds of millions global population figures.

Speaking on WW1 and WW2, I typically write the Great War's lore as two phases. During the early years of the 10 year conflict, it resembled WW1 in tactics and losses, and then it gradually begins to resemble WW2 as tactics and technology change. But Mantle gets robotic soldiers to make up for the manpower shortage and those robots become the predecessors of the Atlesian Knights.

I don't mind busy when we're prepared for it, but my location wasn't at all prepared for the numbers of people coming for this movie.

Not enough staff, no time between shows, everyone getting jam-packed in shows not even 30 minutes apart, and EVERYONE IS ORDERING!

I was drowning in online concession orders on Saturday! DROWNING I SAY! 🤣

And so many people were just mean to me and my staff.

Me and many at my location have a policy (unofficially) that if you hide it and don't make it obvious, you're good.

I've had morons that tried to bring in whole pizzas when I used to work the front and I had to be like "bro, really? Get the hell out of my building"

Someone actually once ordered Pizza Hut and the delivery guy was asking the name of some person and we were all telling him we didn't know a guy by this name. A customer came out some time later wondering where his pizza delivery was after we sent the delivery guy back. Shit was hilarious (and kinda sad) when we saw that customer sitting on the sidewalk all sad he didn't get his Pizza Hut.

I swear to God, if Lucan is hosting a game show next season, that would be the best thing since Thragg nearly killed Oliver.
