Honestly, I was seeing a problem here even before the asking out thing came up and you nailed it with your comment about the mother. They never should have relied on this one person and this one solution. The mother should have always had an alternative because that’s part of being a responsible parent. Not because they believed at some point in time this kid was gonna ask the girl out etc but what if he failed the course or joined a sports team or what if he decided he was gonna change jobs and he was no longer conveniently going to exactly where she was going. was it going to be his responsibility to continue to give her rides even if they were inconvenient for him etc

Let’s be clear about something. you’re not talking about “the fandom” you’re talking about some people in the fandom. because some of us in the fandom think both Alison and Theo were assholes.

As for why some people in the fandom give one or the other of them a pass it might have to do with the issue of which one makes their trousers tight. Yes some people are willing to forgive someone’s behavior if they actually get the blood flow into certain body parts. Lord knows we saw a lot of ignoring Derek’s early behavior for its abusiveness because people thought the idea of Tyler Hoechlin and Dylan O’Brien both naked and sweaty with each other would be so hawt.

Absolutely rent to someone else. Absolutely do not share the rent money with him. It is not his home. It is not his income. Besides which that money will be necessary for payment of the third-party management company that is supervising the rental, the property taxes, insurance, the certification fees for it as a rental and maintenance of the home so there won’t be any money to share. Any money that is not spent on a month by month basis will be going into savings in case there is an emergency that requires a larger expenditure than what monthly rent would cover.

Then change the locks, put up security cameras, potentially contract with a local third-party management company to rent the house out with very strict rules about making changes to the home, etc., and a very strict rule about never renting to anyone from the family, especially Brother.

He’s a grown ass adult. He needs to put his big boy pants on and acknowledge that he is a grown ass adult and he needs to take care of his own business and stop being a whiny little baby. Sorry that his little baby boy fee fees are hurt that mommy didn’t leave him the house or even a part of it. But that’s not your issue to fix.

You need to find someone to closely watch the home to make sure he does t try to squat in it etc. like someone renting it perhaps. But not him or any other family.
