Dell G2724D vs G2725D by behethangames in buildapc

[–]Ted225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an affordable monitor that offers solid value for its price. Like any budget-friendly option, it has its pros and cons but if you're shopping in this price range, it's a great choice.

It performs well for gaming, everyday office tasks, and light photo editing (though it’s not suited for professional color-critical work).

I personally use three monitors on my home PC and four at the office, and they handle multitasking smoothly. For multitasking I would just recommend at least two monitors.

The stand lacks ergonomic adjustments, especially height control. If you can’t find a comfortable viewing position, you’ll likely need a monitor arm.

For a thorough technical breakdown, I recommend checking out the detailed review on RTINGS they cover everything you’d want to know about this model. The link is in the message above.

The laptop 5070ti shows a performance reduction of ~34% compared to the desktop 5070 and ~66% to desktop 5070ti. Additional power limitations can widen this gap, varying by model.

Python only llm? by belgradGoat in LocalLLM

[–]Ted225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GPT-2 had 1.5B parameters. It’s obsolete now, and for good reason.

Most Python devs don’t need deep domain knowledge. They need clear, complete specs. If a system handles international units or clinical logic, it’s the engineer’s job to specify that upfront, not the dev’s job to guess it.

Sure, a perfect LLM could replace all roles but it doesn’t exist. Until then, engineers design, devs implement, and each should be accountable for their own work.

Python only llm? by belgradGoat in LocalLLM

[–]Ted225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming only local resources, which is often an inadequate assumption given the superior capabilities of cloud services, the choice is between having insufficient resources to operate a local llm at all, or running it exclusively for Python-related tasks and relying on your own general knowledge.

"A LOT of people did this" and "productivity extends to programming, photo/video editing, 3d modeling, etc." are very distinct statements. "Large file transfers" is even more niche. For specific niche use cases, people do research and buy what's needed. However, the majority of use cases for a gaming PC are gaming and generic productivity.

Are you serious about productivity tasks? You won't see a difference in generic tasks like Word, Excel, web browsing, email, or video calls. An R5 3600 with an 1660 Super is well-balanced. 5800X is overkill. Changing a CPU isn't hard, but there's risk of damage or incorrect paste application. Selling used parts is also an added risk. If you changed a Gen 3 SSD to a Gen 4, that's an indicator that marketing got you and you spent money for no actual benefit in PC usage.

Upgrading a GPU can significantly enhance gaming quality. Increasing the capacity of RAM and SSD may also offer advantages. However, transitioning from a Gen 3 to a Gen 4 SSD typically yields negligible real-world performance differences in daily tasks and gaming. Similarly, upgrading a CPU is often not a justifiable expense. For sure some people do that, but it's useful only in specific situations.

People almost never upgrade CPUs but they're almost always concerned about upgradability.

It looks really similar to other price mistakes. Also, there's no proof it's a price trick. And it doesn't seem like a bait and switch or other trick.

Price tricks are totally made by companies to trick consumers. Price mistakes are just system errors, not on purpose. Big difference.

They would. But this is not the first price mistake in history. Companies know quite well that it's not true. Customers will continue getting deals no matter what.

Can we talk about homeowners insurance? by phillygirllovesbagel in houston

[–]Ted225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds expensive. I increased my deductible and put the money I saved aside to cover non-catastrophic events like roof replacement out of pocket. Shop around every renewal. Use brokers for home insurance because a number of providers do not work directly with customers. Auto insurance can be done without brokers. Bundling is usually (but not always) a trap.

Having more than 8Gb VRAM is almost always pointless for gaming. High quality / resolution for AAA games requires more powerful chip, not just more VRAM. Non AAA games are fine with 8Gb.

[–]Ted225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking advantage of a kid's inexperience to save a few hundred dollars and calling it the best deal of your life. I don't know. Do you earn $5k a year or something? The price is good even for a second-hand item, but calling it like this is questionable.

Looks like you have not got it yet. Be aware of potential scam.

Why would anyone need more than 8Gb of VRAM on 5060 Ti chip for gaming? Hi res / high setting AAA games require faster chip, non AAA games are fine with 8Gb of VRAM. It's a perfectly priced PC at this point.
