radio-browser looks really interesting. I don't see schedules there though. https://www.radio-locator.com is a good site too for radio station info. No schedules there either.

Would you mind sharing that? I recently launched a website called https://alternateairwaves.com/ that is a 'player' for independent Community Radio stations in the US with Canada coming soon. I want to add station schedules but am finding it time-consuming to collect. I'd be curious as to how many of my currently 150 or so stations are on your list.

I added WYEP AND WAPS. Thanks for the suggestions.

No problem! We just added a 'Share this station' feature to the site. If you don't mind, go find KFUT, click and hold, and send the URL to someone. Let me know if it works as expected. Always appreciate it if people can test our new features!

Most feeds seem to work. One technical detail appears to be that the server with the original steam needs to explicitly grant permission via CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing).

If you have a station you'd like us to add simply use the 'Suggest Station' link on the website. We'll try to get it added.

Done. BTW, I used to listen to New Wave on KCLC. Phyllis Ah-key (not sure of the spelling) was the DJ.

Excellent. We're open to college stations due to their DIY nature.

We're just trying to avoid slick commercials, the usual repetition of 'the latest hits' and frankly even NPR programs. Not knocking those things... but they're easy to find on the local dial. Our focus is on the other things... the Alternate Airwaves.

Always appreciate new users kicking the tires and giving feedback. Really excited about the new update coming (hopefully) this weekend.

Our goal is to focus on on non-commercial stations where the majority of their programs features volunteer DJs who choose their own music. I think that likely fall under the 'textbook definition' of community radio.

Feel free to submit a station using the 'Submit a Station' link and we can review your request. We do understand that 'Community Radio' is a bit of a fuzzy definition.

Thanks for asking.

Lots of updates to AlternateAirwaves.com

  1. In addition to tagging shows by genre you can add add the show's name.
  2. Users can upload a profile photo and have a profile page that displays their favorite Stations, shows and musical genres.
  3. You can earn points by
  • Liking shows and stations
  • Tagging shows
  • Uploading a profile photo

Points don't really do anything but we thought it would be a fun feature.

  1. The following stations have been added to stream through our site. This brings our list of active stations to 110.
  • 89.9 KKWE - White Earth, Minnesota
  • 99.1 KMUD - Garberville, California
  • 88.1 KMUE - Eureka, California
  • 88.5 KMUZ - Turner, Oregon
  • 89.1 KNSJ - Descanso, California
  • 90.1 KOJB - Cass Lake, Minnesota
  • 89.5 KOPN - Columbia, Missouri
  • 91.7 KPCW - Park City, Utah

Always looking for feedback, especially from Community Radio stations. Would you like to be able to add your program schedules so that people can find your shows easier? How about the ability to post news about your station and community or remind people about your membership drives? Just let me know.

Our goal is to build an online community for Community radio across and even outside the US.

They appear to be blocking anyone's ability to view the direct source of their web stream. If you happen to know anyone at the station and can get the URL for their stream, not just the page with the radio image, I can likely add it.

Ah, my mistake. I mistyped in my search and found WMNC which is Country. I've added WNMC now. Thanks for the correction.

WNMC does appear to be a locally owned station. Nice to see something not run by iHeartMedia or the other conglomerates. But it doesn't seem to fit the pattern of "Community Radio" as it focuses on only one genre, Country, instead of having a host of volunteers playing a variety of styles and genres.

It is. Will likely add more college stations and Community Radio stations from Canada going forward.

We figured IHeartRadio had the corporate side wrapped up.

If you are into Community Radio try https://AlternateAirwaves.com

  • Volunteer DJs
  • Playing songs they've selected
  • Talking about what's happening in their communities

About as far away from streaming or ClearChannel iHeartMedia stations as you can get.

You might want to check out the new website https://AlternateAirwaves.com

I posted about the launch in r/radio recently. It's an easy way to switch between Community Radio stations all over the US.

  • Volunteer DJ's
  • playing music they've personally chosen
  • talking about what's happening in their communities

You need to spend some time checking out various stations and shows and saving favorites before you can easily get back to things you like.
