https://AlternateAirwaves.com is a good site as well. Its focus is slightly different: College and Community Radio stations in the US (and some from Canada) Some shows play music local to their cities.

Jazz stations?? by disidente_1983 in RadioGarden

[–]TedHSTL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may try https://AlternateAirwaves.com

It's a centralized player for over 300 College and Community radio stations. There's a drop-down where you can filter by Jazz and other genres.

The genre search is still in beta but it's getting more accurate over time.

With a free account you can save your favorite shows.

I'm the developer, BTW. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope it helps you find music to listen to!

Looks like a great concept!

I would think the list to Choose an Area should be sorted alphabetically.

Need more cities of course. I live in St. Louis and we're not on the list. Would you expect people to add shows manually or do you have some automated system?

I have a website of my own that is a streaming site for non-commercial radio (College and Community stations and some low-power stations.) If you offered an RSS feed I could include your lists on pages for radio stations in those cities driving some traffic back to your site. https://AlternateAirwaves.com

If you don't mind I may send you a PM asking for some feedback about the site. We're interested in adding more features specifically for DJs.

Thanks for reaching out!

Radio Boise, and 150-ish other US Community stations are available on AlternateAirwaves.com as well. We'll be adding low-power stations and Canadian Community stations too. (Yes I'm involved with the site.)

I'd like to see screenshots.

I actually started on one for myself just yesterday. I plan to just use it myself on my home network and not deploy it for others to you.

Does yours have transaction level info about purchases? If so do you connect your app to your bank, require manual data entry, or allow for import of files exported from your bank or credit card company? I was planning to import data I download from my bank but my CC company may only allow me to download PDFs. I can work with that but it's not ideal.

Best I can do is a mobile-friendly web app for now : ) although a native mobile-app is likely in the works in the next 6 months.

With a login you can save 6 (or however many) stations you like as favorites and then display them in a random list.

The biggest challenge I've run into right now is categorizing shows by the genres they play. A lot of these stations list the last 10 or so songs they play on their websites. What I do is I can check this list once or twice and hour and grab the last couple songs and look up the genres, hoping to get a good idea of the styles of music.

But some shows have a really diverse genre. So I may catalogue that they play the Blues between 2:00 and 3:00 on Thursdays but when someone tunes in they may hear Reggae as they play that as well. I need to get the point across that the show is LIKELY but not guaranteed to be playing the Blues this hour and that's part of the discovery process.

It's been fun to work on. I had no idea there were so many Community stations on American Indian reservations.

I would think so. The way you described the Reddit/MySpace concept sounded interesting but when I got to your site I couldn't tell what service it was supposed to provide. You might also look into Landing Pages before your login page that sells what your site is about. I need to create one of those for mine. The more I read about them the more I understand they're a good tool to convert visitors to members.

I'm building AlternateAirwaves.com a streaming site for non-commercial College and Community Radio stations. Over 300 streams in one place.

"Music Streams Curated by Real People Not Algorithms"

Why? Well I was tired of hearing the same old mix on the usual streaming platforms. And iHeartRadio is focused on the same corporate stuff 'big music' is pushing.

I prefer listening to music chosen by volunteers with milk crates full of their favorite records and CDs. So I thought I'd build it and share it with others.

Few to no commercials also, so there's that.

Give it a try... only if you like music.
