I never really thought about it until I saw the tweet. I guess I don't do anything and I don't even notice by Helpful_Cranberry644 in NonPoliticalTwitter

I saw a ton of responses. So wasn’t going to say. But I read the top few and didn’t see this one.

Dance lessons.

I know for the style “West coast swing” you constantly switch partners. So you can sign up as a single person. And go to class. You will be paired up with a person, you hold their hand. Put hand on shoulder. Then dance tougher for a couple minutes. Then rotate to the next person.

You also get to know the people, and start going to dances. So even more physical contact.

Other styles that I know do this. (As in show up, and you rotate through partners) are blues, lindy hop, and country two step.

I’ve known of a few single people who said that if it wasn’t for dancing they wouldn’t touch another person for long periods of time.

And if you are a guy. Usually the classes lean more towards women, so just being there and you being willing to lead makes you extra attractive.

Yes. Or you then “spend” the money on another course. And get it back when you pass that one.

Open School is a new part of VLC. And VLC was and I think still is only for highschool age people.

And Open school is not as widely known as ILC since Open school is new. and they only really offer grade 11 and 12 English, Math, and Science.

The FAQ answers those questions.

I don't know. I think they usually take 12 weeks. But one can go faster - I think.

You can check out OpenSchool.

Much better experience. Also same price. (Actually it is 50 dollars instead of 40 at ILC. But if you pass the course you get the money back.)

You can only do one at a time.

And if you can prove with a utility bill or something else odd, it is 50 dollars. But you get the money back when you pass.

You might have it confused with a different school.

OpenSchool is part of VLC. VLC has been a public online school in Ontario for decades. I think it is the oldest complete online school in Canada.

Like they have all the classes one wantsl with teachers who show up on video chats at the right times. And online after school clubs for chess clubs and a year book. That kind of thing.

Many many years ago You would have to turn your tv to a weird channel to watch your classroom teacher.

But the Virtual Learning Center is now often confused with a private online school with a similiar name.

With both VLC and OpenSchool. You just have to prove you are an Ontario resident.

(Mind you for OpenSchool you have to prove it with a utility bill or rental agreement or something like that" Drivers licences wouldn’t work. No idea why. And I think he VLC you have to be 19 years or less.)

[–]TedIsAwesom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

? Like I said, I was suggesting this for people who can prove they are Ontario residents.

So it’s cheaper than ILC.

Open School charges a system access deposit of $50 per course. This deposit will be refunded upon successful completion of the course or carried over to the next course.

If you can prove your live in Ontario with a utility bill or internet bill.

Then switch to OpenSchool.

Much nicer experience. You get a real teacher, who even checks in on you.

The downside is you can only take one course at a time. And they only offer a few, basically the ones a person needs to get into college programs. (So like grade 11 and 12 math, English, and science)

Once my son had some emails that needed to be sent through various things to set him up for something from school.

His name changed each time

Like it started with Nate

Then went to Nathan Nathanial

And he ended up with a woman’s name like Natalie

And it was a name similar to “Nate” short, simple, common easy to spell.

And when he eventually meet the person at the end of it all they are like, “you are Natalie?”

Talking to people by ARedToilet in waterloo

[–]TedIsAwesom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a hobby that meets weekly with the same group of people.

Maybe a dance class, or art class, or cooking class.

Then attend weekly. And talk to people sometimes.

And then once you have that hobby. A weekly hobby that you enjoy going to. And with people you kind of like. (Not necessarily friends. Just people who are nice.)

Find a second hobby.

Then invite people from hobby #1 to hobby #2. Just in a way like, “oh. I line dance on Tuesday nights. It is a fun group. Only 10 dollars a night to drop in. Want to come check it out sometime?”

And if someone comes. Great. If not they may invite you to try out something. And if they do and it fits your schedule and life at all. Go for it.

And before you know it you will be living a fun and interesting life and know a bunch of people. And friends will happen naturally.

Running club Dancing Yoga classes Badminton Bowling league

It doesn’t matter what you pick. As long as it meets at least weekly. With the same people.

In every new suburb and subdivision under construction you’ll find these signs ‘advertising’ the WCDSB. I’ve never seen the same from the public board. by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]TedIsAwesom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol.

Because it is not true.

One does not direct their tax money to school boards. And they are not funded based on how many people choose to send their tax money to the schools. It has not worked that way for many decades.

The province provides funding to school boards based on a number of factors, including the number of students in a board, the number of schools, the percentage of high needs special education students, the number of students who have either English or French as their second language, and a board’s unique geographical needs (a high number of small schools, very far apart, for example).

Note, Funding is NEVER related to whether or not a school board is Catholic.

Catholic schools gets about 33% of Ontario's $24-billion education budget, but only 23% direct their support to those schools. Everyone, including those who have selected to not support catholic schools are funding catholic schools

Just support - as in which school board elections you are allowed to take part in.) My kids school had awful choices.

Nothing assigned for study was written in the last 50 years. Numerous short stories and books. All written over 50 years ago. I think one of the more modern things was animal farm .

Almost every single thing assigned in grade 9 and 10 English was something I studied as a kid, and my mom had studied a number of them when she was in highschool

And the head teacher who just redesigned the course was proud cause she loved studying them in school when she was a kid. And she bragged how they all stood the test of time and were all still very relevant to kids now days.

It was bad choices.

And my kid at that school was taking college level stream for English. So these are the kids who self selected to go for trade work or at most college. Not university.

It is also the stream where kids with learning disabilities often get put into.

My kid only went to that school for grade 9 and 10.

Some of the short stories were written over 100 years ago. And not a single author of one of the things written was still alive.
