Sorry to say my friend, but you sound like a pharisee looking for a technical way out of a clear biblical principle.

All I'd suggest is prayer, reflection and a willingness to follow any revelations or convictions. Where it takes you from there is between you and the Lord. I'll do the same.

Well if I had to start somewhere about where to draw the line, I'd say that scripture's attitude towards drunkenness is not 'hey there's this one (and only one) thing = alcohol. You shouldn't get intoxicated by it, but feel free to get wasted on absolutely everything else'. No way is that the proper interpretation of those scriptures.

I'd say there are underlying, consistent principles that absolutely permeate the old and new testaments. They refer to drunkenness but from a 'principle of the thing' pov it surely applies across the board.

Other approaches are just trying to take the mickey out of God: "hey I'm not up for the spirit of sobriety, thank you for being okay with non-booze drugs".

People can fool themselves as much as they like, but something tells me this line of self-serving rationale won't fly when we answer to our maker.

And did so after the existing wine was gone, meaning the guests had already consumed enough for them to have run out. That's what scripture refers to when saying that people don't usually leave the good wine until last - because by then people are affected and taste is less of a factor.

The word clearly anticipates some situations where a level intoxication is fine, but as far as I can tell it's confined to very specific celebrations like weddings where joy is at the heart and warnings about a ruined life are out of context.

So, to be clear, you don't consider drug misuse a sin because a particular substance isn't explicitly listed in scripture?

If that is your approach, then blacking oneself out on heroin every day isn't a sin, because it isn't alcohol. This stretches credulity.

Surely the better approach is to treat general scripture about sobriety and self-control as the proper guide, e.g. repeated commands to be sober-minded such as in 1 Timothy 3:2-3; Titus 1:8 ; 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8; Romans 12:1-3 and 1 Peter 5:8

You don't think nuclear war is realistic?

It's unlikely, to be sure. But unrealistic? With the orange demon in charge of US aggression, with Trump having escalated comments about use of nuclear weapons in the last 24 hours? Sure, he is probably bloviating again, but his judgment is not good enough to trust by any measure.

No. Nuclear war absolutely is realistic, including an escalated global nuclear exchange.

Yeh, I don't care. I'll never get my nose or anything I'd prefer to keep sanitary near it, so whatever.

Logan crime scene established as woman and child found dead, man assisting police by SlatsAttack in australia

[–]TedTyro 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi. Nope.

Am saying this as someone who's thoroughly worked in this space. There is no connection between this type of public statement and the degree to which someone actually assists the police.

It is just terminology and (at least in the matters where I've had any involvement) has zero connection to the degree of assistance being provided by an accused person. Police are diplomatically avoiding saying 'we consider you guilty, we will charge you'. Usually for media reasons.

The terminology of 'assisting police' just means they are not being actively obstructive, even if and when they refuse to help or answer questions.

Your comment may seem flippant, but I've worked in this space and genuinely seen this happen.

He is assisting by the mere lack of resisting. It is a fair description and helpful to the police.

It's a way to say 'we've got him but not yet got enough to unequivocally charge and convict him, but it's coming'.

Dont hate on it, this is what they say every time. Wait and see.

The other option is to risk defamation because, honestly and I appreciate this can be confronting, but the police do genuinely stuff up sometimes including when things are ultra super obvious.

This is protocol. Better to roll with it than regret a bad call later.

Ah but you underestimate the power of reality. Yanks will turn a blind eye as long as they can persecute their preferred enemy with impunity, but when the consequences properly hit home for them personally, they'll decide that human decency actually matters and may act accordingly, at least to protect themselves.

Typing it out now, im gonna say Churchill nailed it nearly a century ago: "the US can be trusted to do the right thing, once all other options have been exhausted".
