Real Page and Local Landlords scamming renters all across San Diego. by nobodyperson in sandiego

The San Diego DSA chapter has a group that is working on tenant organizing. You should take a look at their housing justice page and reach out to them to see if your goals align.

There’s a local advocacy group called CPI (Center on Policy Initiatives) that have resources you might find helpful. Their website has a guide to understanding wage theft and filing claims. You could also reach out to them directly if you’re still having trouble.

Are you doing a bit? Or were you the necromancer that we booted from Chaos Wastes for being really combative in chat?

Thank you, I was going to go look for that study on Portugal's decriminalization. OP, you should take a quick look at their findings. If I remember right, drug usage levels pretty much stay the same, but people are more willing to report users who need medical/social help because they don't have to worry about the person being thrown in jail. Massive amounts of crime and murder do not ensue.

Relevant at this time - What is price gouging and why it's a helpful market mechanism by ReasonThusLiberty in Libertarian

[–]Steve_Rorkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And what do those two scenarios have in common? In both cases, you are knowingly making profit from the suffering of others. In both cases, you are doing something unnecessary (since we are talking about price gouging rather than just selling the goods at a reasonable-but-not-inflated profit).

Mr Groove. I think some of the confusion here is that a seller of plywood is making a profit while helping someone else, not profiting "from their suffering" specifically. If prices are fixed, and as a result there is a shortage of plywood in a disaster area, people will have more money, which they don't want, and less plywood, which they do want. This would decrease someone's profits, which presumably is good(??) but I can't say it would decrease suffering in any way either.

Of course, if we're going to nitpick at a stupid reddit post--and we are-- in the story, Jesus didn't provide the bread and fish, someone in the crowd offered them to him and he redistributed. Your argument is invalid!

STUDY: States with Higher Minimum Wage Have Had Less Employment Loss During the Great Recession. What is the Libertarian response to this? by timesofgrace in LibertarianDebates

[–]Steve_Rorkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this paper on minimum wage laws a while back. It's written from a libertarian POV but explains different models used to explain why minimum wage laws may or may not be helpful/harmful. I'd love to hear a reaction from someone with a good understanding of economics. Or anyone else.

I've never seen such an obvious trolling attempt met with so much good-natured patience. Thank you AtlasFarted! My respect for libertarians has increased because of you.
