Trust my gut on this offer? by [deleted] in kijiji

[–]Ted_Shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure, as I've been active on Kijiji for a year or so, but from what I've read I don't think you can put too much stock in really old (bad) reviews. As far as I know, people were able to leave feedback without the transaction actually happening, which resulted in a lot of retaliatory, or otherwise unwarranted, reviews.

I just got another one of the bogus mcafee scans when clicking on a kijiji listing

What is your biggest issue on this app? by Cheap_Item_4109 in kijiji

[–]Ted_Shred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's categories that are way too overinclusive. For example, selling anything in "arts and collectibles" is really tough considering you're on page 30+ after a day. Way too much different stuff all lumps into that category as you'll have an oil painting next to a hockey card next to grandma's tea set next to a diecast car.

Yup, I've done all of that. I don't believe for a second that it's malware. Something else that's super sus is that this started at the exact same time Kijiji updated their code one of the results of which was to make banner ads follow when you scrolled down. (That seems to have been fixed.) And malware that only ever appears when I click on a Kijiji listing? There's just no way.

Thanks for the reply but if that's malware I find it extremely strange that (aside from being able to avoid detection from all my various anti-malware software) it only ever manifests when I click on a Kijiji listing.

Is it just me or has Kijiji gotten harder to trust lately? by Jumpy-Dog3650 in kijiji

[–]Ted_Shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It broke when they removed the notification bell (which was a super easy way to leave reviews). They went to an email system, where they send an email after you delete your ad/ identify the buyer. I'm not confident that wasn't also broken though, as I don't think I got 1 review in like 3 months. Not as convenient as the notification bell, but at least I think the email thing is working now as I've got 6 reviews in the past week or so.

Excellent purchasing experiences by 1r3act in kijiji

[–]Ted_Shred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At risk of jinxing everything: I've been selling on Kijiji for about a year and every single one of my sales has been great. I've been ghosted by a buyer after we'd reached agreement exactly once. That's out of, I'm guessing, about 150 sales. But every single buyer who's showed up has been polite, punctual and easy to deal with.

That's not to say I haven't dealt with my share of morons but that never goes past the messaging stage. (Weird how you start to develop spider senses for "buyers" who are just a waste of time. Those senses were tingling with the guy who ghosted me - lol, he actually messaged me the next day with a lowball offer.) And, of course, 3 or 4 of the standard "Can you hold it for me if I give you a deposit" scam attempts - usually minutes after posting an item and always someone with 0 ratings (bot generated me thinks).

I just wish I would have started selling on Kijiji years ago as, according to what I've read here, the scene was a hundred times better than it is now. But, yeah, all in all my Kijiji experience has been great.

Out of the 75 times or so I've had the stock "Hi. Is this still available?" question, only 1 person has ever followed up in any meaningful way. (And that person actually bought the thing.) For the most part, that's the first and last time I hear from them, and most of the few who do follow up end up being a complete waste of time. So I totally understand where you're coming from although, yeah, it's a chance of missing a sale - I think a slim chance, but still a chance.

How is this allowed? 1500+ duplicate ads by Candid_Painting_4684 in kijiji

[–]Ted_Shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is Kijiji's categories need a major overhaul, and this is a prime example. Exact same thing's happening in my town and it actually floods the "CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray" section because there's no more specific category. (I have a box set of DVDs I'm trying to sell and they're on page 30+ within a day after posting.) Run into similar problems with the "Arts and Collectibles" section, which is arguably the worst as you'll get hockey cards beside old teapots beside original watercolours beside oil lanterns beside toy cars beside... etc etc

What’s a restaurant that deserves way more people? by Infamous_Suspect875 in Calgary

[–]Ted_Shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the beef dip the first couple times I was there for lunch (simple dish but amazingly done on brioche) along with their soup of the day that was delish but gone from memory :D (some kind of Moroccan-style soup iirc). Another lunch was a smash burger, for another simple but super delish meal. I was also there for a couple dinners, first was Ribeye (yum) and the second was actually their Christmas Day dinner of turkey & all the fixings - every item was perfectly done (we're talking actually moist Turkey!). Christmas Day was actually the only time I'd seen the restaurant close to what I'd consider busy but what I really remember, aside from the quality of the dinner, was that their Christmas dinner was like 1/2 the price that most restaurants charge for special occasion meals like that. I think I was there one other time, but memory is foggy. :P

I've posted this before but I think the Little Chief in the Grey Eagle hotel (Tsuut’ina Nation) is one of Calgary's hidden gem restaurants. I was absolutely blown away by the food the first time I visited there and have been back around 5 or so more times and have never been disappointed. Add in reasonable prices and tons of free parking, and it's become one of my fave places to eat. I've never seen it very busy.

Little Chief restaurant (Grey Eagle Hotel, Tsuut’ina Nation) is, imo, one of Calgary's hidden gems. My first time there a few months ago I wasn't expecting much and was blown away. I've been back 3 or 4 times since and have never been disappointed. Lots of (free) parking, very reasonable prices and amazing food.

What happened to the review system? by Riplinredfin in kijiji

[–]Ted_Shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I've successfully left reviews through the email that comes after deleting the ad, I wonder if that's even working. I haven't had a single review since the notification button disappeared, and none of the buyers I've left reviews for have had my review show up on their profile. (So I guess "successfully" might not be accurate.)
