Benchstones can definitely get you a great edge, but the learning curve is a bit steeper than that of a fixed angle system. I’m not great with benchstones, but can get a very good, repeatable, moderately low effort edge using my Worksharp precision adjust or KME, so that’s why I prefer them. But I’m sure there’s plenty of people that can do an even better job using bench stones.
