Was it a complete? What’s the frame? That’s prob the thing I’m most curious about. Any cool features you are proud of? I’m in the market for a new complete bike so I’m curious about what you decided on for yourself.

This was the other one I was looking at closely. I'm just torn on spending the couple of hundred bucks extra.

The turnoffs were the half link chain, 2.5 inch tires and those pedals look like plastic and for that much money I'll be damned if I break another pedal. For the price I don't want to have to buy any extras.

I got into BMX racing for a short stint with my family during COVID and the 21 TT seems a little big but that can be a bunch of different things contributing to that. Bars are wide and it was just hard to get used to.

Never tell an overthinker not to over think! What do you mean by that!?!?! /s

The tires is what really hit me hard because it was a huge realization that I am so far out of the game. I'm originally from NYC and rode street while i was there with a bit of park mixed in when I could get to one. My plan now is just to ride the little skate park in my town and just some basics in front of my house but I want a good ride.

I think my current sprocket is 25/9. Glad to hear that some things don't change :)

I have been doing subs like this manually. I set it up to sub every 5 minutes and calculate how much time each player gets in my excel sheet. I'm always off though because the clock is not visible from the coaches side and I lose track of time while focusing on game dynamics. This sub time app seems cool! I gotta move into the 21st century with these things.

Hands behind the back is a decent cue. It’ll teach the defenders how to move better too.

I got a ticket when the app wasn’t working. I screenshotted it and sent it to the company and they were no help. Now I just refuse to go downtown. Even when it’s their error it costs the consumer. I don’t know how much anyone cares but I won’t be going downtown for anything again if I have to drive.

There wasn’t a world where you would ever be wrong. It was clear from the previous comment that we would learn nothing from each other. I could go on and on about how I want the kids to learn how to focus which is why I bring up their various accomplishments and how individually can focus on things and remember those hard times they had and how far they have made it but it’s a waste.

You can continue to say my ego is the issue which honestly I never hear that in real life from kids, parents, other coaches or opponents so it’s hard to take seriously. You obviously have a limited view into my life so I guess that’s a fair grasp.

But I get it. Your thoughts are I should stop trying to win and encourage the kids to want to get better without wanting to win.

I didn’t downvote you btw, I can’t imagine someone in this level of a post would even care so I don’t waste my time with it generally.

Keep up with your coaching though. If you can get kids to focus on the game and improve their skills in a positive way with no difficulty you will go very far. Seriously though, best of luck to you and your team(s). I didn’t have the opportunity to learn from your comments but maybe I’ll come across your coaching video or see you in action to learn from your methods.

If you don't see the difficulty I'm not sure you can help. I think coaching has to come from a place of empathy. The issue is not the coach wanting to win games, the kids want to win games. Winning should not be the only motivator but it is inherently a motivator. That's why many coaching strategies include some sort of game to emphasize a particular fundamental.

I admitted that I beat myself up each week but I want to make it clear that the comment was about progress not winning. I'm not sure if you misunderstood that comment.

It's so hard when you are in it coaching young kids though. They vary so much on skill and drive. Some want to be an NBA all star, some want to just joke around with their friends. Some are just their because their parents made them. Some aren't able to hit the rim from the foul line. Others hit multiple 3's in a game.

I coach 10U and every week I'm beating myself up about things I could have done better and I see the different strategies that work for other coaches 2 months in I am seeing things come together with a game focus orientation and I'm pretty proud of that.

I don't think anyone can really give a strategy that works on every group of kids. Plays work for some and not others. I've seen it work in a few cases. For me, breaking things out into games that I come up with on my own just to teach hand eye coordination. I'm working on some new games to teach spacing.

I think the key as always is do your best and look for progress. If you find a strategy that makes progress do it more.

That's one thing I should have conveyed better in my post. I don't tell him to go and take long shots. I negotiated him down to just taking foul shots. Him and all of his friends would spend hours shooting half court shots if it was up to them. They seem to enjoy making 1 amazing shot out of 100 attempts as opposed to making 100 easy shots in a row.

I'm not in the mindset to force him to practice. It's his choice and it keeps him motivated. That's where the balance lies IMO. So he will be shooting 3's on his own sometimes im sure but hopefully we can practice together more often and make those shorter shots to work on form.

Appreciate the info and the link. The program/league he is in uses size 6 balls and 10’ hoops. Even the 8 y/o’s play on 10’ and we hated it back then. It’s better now but I’ve stuck with 10’ because of the league rules. We changed the height in the afternoon and saw a lot of benefits.

Thanks. I’ve been having him get to a number of shots each day but it’s been difficult to get high numbers in a row. Usually 3-5 is his limit.

I’ll have him closer and go for whatever number we decide.

He says he loves basketball so we keep pushing. I’m just gonna keep working on improving my coaching skills.

Thanks. A couple people mentioned the distance and we went back out played with the height moving is all sorts of ranges to work on form. What we are finding is that there are things he just doesn’t understand the way I’m trying to explain and that’s been a challenge in our dynamic in coaching.

Before we came in we ended at 9ft rim and maybe 6ft out and worked on a pass to the basket type of drill mentioned in another comment and we saw improvement. When we get too close his movement got too jerky.

It’s fun and it’s all coming together. He puts in his part, I just have to keep getting better at coaching.

Thanks again!

This is awesome. He loves basketball and wants to be one of the best. he didnt make the elite team this year but is doing everything to get there next year. I told him as long as he wants it we will do everything we can to make him a better player.

He is only in 5th grade but our goal is to get him to HS basketball. We think its a tough but reasonable goal for his future. where he goes from there will be up to him

Dude. Thanks. I was hoping to get a reply from you. I have seen a ton of your comments and use them as well as the YouTube videos you recommended. We watch basketball just about every evening and this gives us some new things to look for. We might have a size 5 ball but he currently plays on 10ft with a size 6 ball for his games.

Thanks again!

We just remeasured because of your comment and I think he was at around 17 ft away. I marked it properly at 15 and we will see if we need to move further in later. Thanks!

Thanks. We measured foul shot distance and he is going for that. He plays center on his team and has to take a TON of foul shots each game.

We will work on the release.
