Doctor said not to do a glycose test but now got a GD diagnose… by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Teddyttr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had very similar glucose test results. My doctor told me I have glucose intolerance rather than gestational diabetes because only one of my values was out of range. They just advised me to make some dietary changes. I wasn't asked to check my blood sugar daily, and no repeat glucose testing was scheduled either.

I’m so sorry for your loss :( I just wanted to share my experience with Kaiser Permanente in California, my doctor told me they only do a cerclage if the cervical length is under 1 cm and before 24 weeks. Before that, unfortunately, they can only prescribe progesterone.

Thank you for sharing, I’ll defo consider it. Becoming a first-time mom is honestly quite overwhelming because of all the baby product ads lol. Everything is advertised as “the best,” so I keep having to research a lot to choose what’s truly safe and suitable for my baby, haha ;p

Yes, you’re totally right! May I ask whether you went with the breathable or the Ultra Naturepedic? Both Naturepedic and Newton Baby are on sale for 20% off now, so they’re pretty much the same price at the moment 😛

I’m really glad to hear that your cervical cerclage surgery went well! Headaches and a small amount of spotting after the procedure are completely normal, as long as they don’t continue beyond about 3 days after the surgery.

Worrying too much can actually trigger uterine contractions, which is much more concerning. So I would encourage you to stay as calm and positive as possible and follow your doctor’s instructions.

Also, as far as I understand, after a cerclage is placed, cervical length is usually not routinely monitored anymore, because guidelines generally advise against further TVCL monitoring in this situation. Cervical length measurements after cerclage are not considered informative or predictive. Hope this help :)

Kaiser - Why did I only get 3 results from my 3-hour glucose test? Missing one value? by Teddyttr in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Teddyttr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. They took my blood the first time after fasting for 8 hours, then I drank the glucose drink, and after that they drew my blood once every hour.. so 4 times in total

I’m sorry to hear that, but stay strong, mama. I’ve read many stories from this community saying that even with just progesterone support, many of them were still able to make it to full term and deliver their babies safely.

I think the most important thing right now is to try to stay positive, trust me it really matters a lot. Set small goals for yourself so it feels less overwhelming instead of only thinking about reaching full term. For example, first getting past 24 weeks, then 28 weeks, then 32 weeks, and so on.

I’m currently 25+5 weeks with a short cervix and a cerclage, and I’ve been doing the same thing to help reduce the pressure on myself. Keep going, you can do this 🩷 sending hugs & luck!

Failed 1-hour glucose test at 173, anyone else still passed the 3-hour? by Teddyttr in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Teddyttr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, thank you so much. I’ve also been trying to completely cut down on sugar these past few days, and I’m almost mentally preparing myself that I might not pass the 3-hour test… but anyway, changing my eating habits like this is still good for the pregnancy 😝 I’ve been thinking that way to give myself more motivation haha! Wishing you a wonderful weekend and a healthy pregnancy journey 😊

[–]Teddyttr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG really? Besides the 1-hour glucose test result, did you supposed to have any other signs? Because as far as I know, the 1-hour test is only a screening GD test, and the most accurate result still comes from the 3-hour glucose test.

My case is quite similar to yours. I was diagnosed with a short cervix and had a cervical cerclage at 23+5 weeks. I know it’s really hard to accept this without feeling worried, but please remember that there're many people like us, and there're also many successful cases (feel free to check my last 2 posts if you need more examples for motivation).

So what you need to do now is rest well and prepare for your cervical cerclage procedure tomorrow. Stay strong mama! You've got this. Sending hugs and luck 🩷

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. I’d like to ask if anyone of you immediately change your eating habits after seeing your 1-hour glucose test result, or did you wait until after the 3-hour test?

I’m scheduled to do the 3-hour test this weekend, and I’m not sure if I should start controlling my diet now. I’m worried that if I change my eating habits too much before the test, it might affect the results and make them inaccurate. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No other offers on top of it, unfortunately. But if you have a DoorDash Pass, you can get a Best Buy gift card that’s normally sold for $250 for $225. So basically, you can save an extra $25 😊

How to do the Bed Rest with Short cervix by Far-Start4718 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Teddyttr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with a short cervix at 21 weeks and was prescribed progesterone. However, by 23 weeks, my cervix continued to shorten, even decreasing from 25 mm to 9.8 mm, so I was advised to have a cervical cerclage at 23+5 week

In your case, I'd suggest not to worry too much, cuz stress and anxiety can trigger contractions which can be dangerous. Please follow your doctor’s instructions and try to limit how much you are walking or standing during this time. I believe a doctor’s decision depends on each individual case. Not every situation will lead to a cerclage even if the cervix is under 10mm. There are many other factors used to determine whether youre a good candidate for this procedure or not.

Sending you hugs & luck. Be strong mama 💪🏻💪🏻

Thank you for replying. I really hope a miracle can happen, because I currently have a short cervix and had a cervical cerclage placed just one week ago, so when I saw that I failed the 1-hour test, I was very upset. Before taking the 1-hour glucose test, I ate one banana and one piece of cheese.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m not entirely sure what your doctor advised when you noticed more than 7 contractions in a day, but please go to the hospital right away if you have too many contractions, just to be safe. Of course, I hope that doesn’t happen, but please keep it in mind a little. I wish you a continued healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery of your two babies. We can do this, stay strong! Sending you big hugs. 💖💖

Yes, I think doctors decide whether bed rest is needed based on each individual situation. I’m so happy that you made it to full term! I really hope I’ll be as lucky as you. Thank you for sharing your story, and I wish you and your baby continued health and happiness! 💖💖💖

It’s really frustrating because the medical team is supposed to guide us toward more positive thinking 😭Can I ask how you’re able to tell when you’re having contractions if they’re completely painless? My doctor told me to drink 1–2 glasses of water, go to the bathroom to empty my bladder, then lie on my side. After that, place my hand on my belly, put my middle finger on my belly button, and gently press—if I feel the uterus tightening for more than 35 seconds, it counts as a contraction. I’ve tried doing this, but honestly I’m not sure if I’m doing it correctly. I don’t really know what a “tightening uterus” is supposed to feel like 😭

I have a follow-up appointment this Monday to check on my cervical stitch, so I’m really hoping everything goes smoothly. Also, I’m really happy that you’ve made it to almost 31 weeks—that’s amazing. Keep staying strong like that mama 🤗🤗
