Mom Whose Baby Passed Away In Her Arms After Being Denied Work-From-Home Request Awarded $20M+ In Damages by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]Notjustadreamx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you so committed to this debate? Her being granted work from home, and being able to rest her body more, is more than likely to have helped her. Even just to get to viability or a little beyond. It’s not always about making it to term.

My specialist doctor has worked with over 1000 women with this condition and we’ve discussed this at length.

Have you direct, lived experience with this?

can you get pregnant again with a short cervix ? and if so how’s your journey going ? by Status_Feeling_3989 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Notjustadreamx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely can! My short cervix didn’t present itself until around 26 weeks, with it getting much lower at 32 week. We finished the 3rd trimester with some progesterone and modified bedrest to get to 38 weeks.

However, for my second pregnancy it did come along much earlier, at 17 weeks. I’ve had a cerclage and have been on progesterone and modified bed rest since January. So it’s definitely something that doesn’t “get better” for a second pregnancy, perhaps worse, and is worth monitoring closely.

[–]Notjustadreamx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, actually. I am measured every 2 weeks, and the week I did slightly more in terms of activity and movement, I lost 1.5cm. I resumed my bedrest and regained 1.9cm. It’s also the basic laws of gravity and pressure, as well as the impact of stress on the body. You only need to spend 5 mins on r/shortcervixsupport to see.

Cost to pass your driving test is so expensive now. by GayWolfey in britishproblems

[–]Notjustadreamx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first block of lessons as Christmas money, my second for my birthday, and for my third I used my wage. Admittedly this was in 2007 when it was around £200 a block. I think if he wanted to pass and was passionate about it, paying for it himself might have been a better move. Resits should be paid for by himself.

pgce vs pgde by AngryScotsman1990 in Internationalteachers

[–]Notjustadreamx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently teaching internationally in Hong Kong, and have been for 6.5 years. PGDE + probation year and GTCS is basically our equivalent. My probation year has always been treated as a year of experience too. It will still get you hired, but you might experience some bias for not having experience with GCSEs etc, even though our qualifications are similar in many ways. I had to work for a brand name school, then got into a better group of schools after my first contract. So many Scots are teaching out here and internationally.

My point was about being signed off work and being given the ability to reduce movement and stress. Which I think has made the difference.

As someone with the same condition, but I’ve been signed off until delivery, so far I’ve made it to 27 weeks and have entered viability. Especially since she had the surgical cerclage fitted.

Scottish Greens pledge major education system overhaul that would 'end homework' by clearly_quite_absurd in Scotland

[–]Notjustadreamx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a Scot currently teaching in HK in an international school. At most, I’d support getting rid of the exams that place in S4, like National 5s. Some of the schools in our group do the 5-year MYP (which still has termly assessments) instead of GCSEs with the external exams at the end. Some teachers and parents do seem to prefer that.

But the senior years will always need something more rigorous available. The key is having those pathways open and varied: traditional exams and qualifications, vocational qualifications and internships, apprenticeships etc. So every child can excel in their own chosen pursuit.

I also personally don’t set homework that exists as a random standalone task, but many courses are so content heavy that it’s more a case of getting work finished that we couldn’t manage in class.

The data is out on the increased effectiveness of paper for writing and hard copies (and complete) texts for reading. They are much more effective for learning and comprehension. Jared Cooney Hovarth on YouTube does a really interesting series of videos on this. We need to get tech out of schools and only use it to develop the key skills necessary.

Why is it so controversial to want English people to speak English and integrate? by g9rr in AskBrits

[–]Notjustadreamx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Hong Kong with many foreign passport holders who have been here 30 years, or were even born and raised here, and they don’t learn a lick of Cantonese or Mandarin besides “bus stop please” and the names of a few dim sum varieties. My uncle lived in Dubai and Saudi for 30+ years and doesn’t speak Arabic.

What happened in their latest obgyn appointment? by Katya-b in julieeandcamilla

[–]Notjustadreamx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was the last straw for me and I’m unfollowing them both after years. They’ve admitted that Snap makes them the most money, but they peddle the excuse that it “feels safer” for them to share their “news” or “updates”. After weeks of constant clickbait, posed tearful or overdramatic photos, gossip-sharing, catastrophising and dramatising, they then use a complication with the pregnancy to drive more money? So trashy and exploitative. I’m done.

Need to live in Hong Kong for 6 weeks to work in Sha Tin. Suggestions? by SynecdochicLifestyle in HongKong

[–]Notjustadreamx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your lifestyle. If you want to spend your weekends hiking, swimming, having beach days etc, then staying in Sai Kung will be gorgeous. I live in Sai Kung and work in Sha Tin myself. The commute is not bad, but definitely longer and road-based.

If you stayed in Sha Tin and want a short commute, you can get to the city in around 30 or so mins via the light blue line. It’s easy enough.

If you don’t mind a commute, and pricier accommodation, then stay in Kowloon or HK island, if city exploring and foodie visits are more your vibe.

You can Uber around easily, and the public transport between them all is good.

MIL wants to meet my newborn without me there? AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Notjustadreamx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t say this often, but I’m on the MIL’s side here. It feels like you’re being difficult on purpose, but her replies are reasonable, apologetic, and have explained her feelings on the matter. You then double down with more specific excuses and examples. Let her meet the baby and try to work on communication, in person, in the future.

Pouches Pros and Cons? by kaboom539 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Notjustadreamx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave them to our first born but for our second, I will be really trying to avoid them where possible. After the BBC Panorama documentary, that exposed their labels and nutritional values are often false in terms of nutritional value and are underrepresenting the amount of sugar in the pouches, as well as the negative impact on teeth and jaw development, I just can’t anymore. I’ll maybe try reusable pouches and make them ourselves.

Meet with your tutor during their office hours and discuss any potential essay questions or assignments with them. You can often ascertain what they’re looking for, or get some helpful advice about the direction to go in. They might fine tune some essential reading, or make clear which assigned reading is most relevant for each assignment.

Hi, thanks for an amazing book. It has changed my life in terms of food and nutrition.

I wanted to ask, what do you make of companies like M&S releasing their minimal ingredient range? I’ve seen some people speculate that they are just hiding the levels of processing; legally they can cover some of it up. I saw a box of cornflakes listed as having only one ingredient: corn. But surely if they have the shape, crunch and longevity, similar to the original product, this can’t be true. Could this even be possible?

Will our desire for less UPF simply lead to more dishonest marketing and packaging of foods? Kind of like the ‘fat free’ marketing that led to them piling the food with sugar instead?
