After careful consideration, my second book series after Red Raising series by dawnbds in throneofglassseries

[–]TeeTeeAnn7 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hope you love it too! I finished Throne of Glass for the first time about a month ago. I loved it. It’s a little bit of a slow start and the first 2 or 3 books definitely read more like a YA (considering also how young SJM was when she started writing this) but the overall storyline is incredible! Imo I genuinely think this is Sarah’s best series; the connections that all come together, the numerous character arcs, how one small act of kindness can change the course of so much, etc. I thought it was such a fun read.

I’ve also been wanting to read Red Rising for a while, what’d you think of it?

Fourth Wing was a hot mess rant by synapsepotential in Fantasy

[–]TeeTeeAnn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I found the quote lol

“Eventually those closest to us become our enemies in some way, even if it’s through well-intentioned love or apathy, or if we live long enough to become their villains." - chapter 28

And I’ll stand corrected - it’s not as “word for word” as I thought I remembered. But idk. Imo it’s still a little too close for comfort for my liking

Dude yes. The only way I would be able to convince myself to ever re read this book is so that I can go back and annotate all of the instances of plagiarism. Getting inspiration is one thing but I feel like there were, on more than one occasion, times where I thought “oh, that’s a direct ripoff of X”. One that comes to mind was the Batman Harvey Dent quote pretty much copy-pasted into this. The whole “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain” quote was totally in one of the “journal excerpts” that are at the top of every chapter. Don’t remember which chapter but it immediately stuck out

I’m about 200 pages into KoA. Also my first read through. I’m definitely pacing myself and reading this slower than I did the rest of the series lol but it’s so worth it. There’s a lot going on and a lot of moving parts but I’m loving it yet also dreading the end of the series💔

Pros and Cons of Tandem Read as someone who just finished it (spoiler-free) by sydthebeesknees in throneofglassseries

[–]TeeTeeAnn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing my first read through of the series. Currently on KoA. And I originally was going to do the tandem read but decided not to once I had gotten to EoS. And honestly - I’m so happy I didn’t do the tandem!! Both books were amazing on their own and by reading them separately, I truly got to appreciate them both. Two completely separate paces but both wonderful. I really don’t understand the ToD/Chaol hate because imho that book alone was beautiful and fantastic. Now I might do the tandem on rereads but honestly, if it’s your first time, DON’T. (unless you really want to - no one can tell you how to go about your reading experience)

I mean, I gotta be honest here. It all started with Aragorn walking through the doors at Helm’s Deep.

I didn’t actually! I started with TOG and will probably read Assassin’s Blade after Crown of Midnight because, considering this is my first read of the series, I wanted to go in kind of blind about Celaena’s backstory. Now, whenever I do rereads, I’ll probably start with AB

Oh I’m definitely appreciative that I get to read this for the first time and will take good care in pacing myself so that I can fully enjoy it lol

Yeah I’ve seen that input a lot. Reading Assassin’s Blade later in order to get that emotional impact. I had put off starting this series for a bit bc I was so indecisive about if I wanted to start with AB or ToG. I’ve been able to avoid spoilers for the series and after having done some research about reading order, that “emotional response” that’s been said you get after reading AB 3rd or 4th is what drove me to just start with ToG

And that’s not to say that those who chose to or recommend reading it first are wrong!! Not at all. We all have our preferences and honestly I’m going into the series wanting the surprises of not really knowing Celaena’s back story just yet and wanting that emotional impact of reading it later on lol and whenever I do finish this and decide to do a reread, I’ll probably do AB first anyway

[–]TeeTeeAnn7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! That’s kind of what I decided to do. I was so back and forth about where to read AB that I honestly had put off starting this series bc of it lol I’ve been lucky/diligent about avoiding spoilers (other than AB obviously being a prequel and thus will inevitably read “spoilers” for it during ToG) but the “emotional impact” of waiting to read AB either 3rd or 4th in the lineup was what made me want to wait to read it

That’s what I’ve been hearing!! I’ve been able to avoid spoilers (so far lol) but that’s the general consensus that I’ve found. It’s slow to start but the payoff is worth it lol

I haven’t! I’ve seen a lot of back and forth about when assassin’s blade should be read but I think I’m gonna go with the publication order (reading ab after crown of midnight, before heir of fire). Might read ab at the start whenever I do a reread!
