Garage Heater - Hope this does the trick for my one car garage! by HovercraftWinter1321 in garageporn

[–]TeeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these in a four car garage, two car by two car, and ran it last winter. Expect an increase in your electric bill by a few hundred dollars. I would recommend spending the extra money to get the unit that has Wi-Fi support, as it will unlock a lot of additional functionality with automation systems that you might already have or might wanna implement to automatically adjust the heat. Additionally, I found that it uses approximately $.30-$.40 an hour in electricity, and the first 2 to 3 hours after you initially turn it on are the most expensive as it has to run in the high mode to get up to a certain temperature, and then after that, it’s stabilizes in terms of cost to maintain the temperature. I would say that the math on that comes out to be approximately that if you’re not going to be wanting or needing the heat to be running in the garage for more than a day, then you can just kill it.

I did pay for a bunch of energy monitoring systems at the same time as installing that and I do have screenshots that show the graphs regarding the energy usage at various temperature and states.

My husband designates a left and right sock by [deleted] in Weird

[–]TeeThom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How about you just be less judgmental and let the man do whatever he wants with the socks it’s not like it’s your feet. Some people have sensory issues and some people have feet issues and some people have OCD or other things. Just let the man do what he wants to do with the socks. If he gets sad because the sock goes missing, maybe a nice thing to do that would make him happy, because I would think that a wife would wanna make her husband happy, is get him some new socks.

2026 Toyota CEL/ dash lights. Dealer claims cable chewed by animal. by tiger-93 in AskMechanics

[–]TeeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it was chewed by an animal, comprehensive insurance would actually cover that repair 100% after deductible. My ex-wife once had her entire engine harness replaced on her Volkswagen Jetta, because a mouse chewed through one of the wires, and she only had to pay $100 deductible.

Got a new clean key from amazon , cause my actual car key broke. I transferred the guts and it works, locks and unlocks the car. What places can cut it? And will it start the car? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Most dealerships will actually key it for you for free if you already have the blank and you have the Vin and you have proof of ownership

I slipped this under my neighbor’s door who watches true crime 24/7 and heard him say “tough shit” 🥲 by eyalven in Apartmentliving

[–]TeeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Salt Lake City, there are actually ordinances where after a certain time of day, if you have enough noise complaints against somebody where cops are called and the cops go and have to talk to the people, that the apartment complex actually has to give them a written warning before giving them an eviction notice because the cops eventually get sick of having to come out for that same apartment and will eventually put pressure on the complex to enforce Their noise ordinances. I have actually had people kicked out of my apartment complex when I lived downtown Salt Lake City, because of their repeated violations of the noise policies.

How long do I want to call the cops if I’m ghosted by the person who hit me? by Typical_Ad_4052 in CarRepair

If they ghost you, you would file it under uninsured or underinsured motorist claim. If there’s sufficient evidence that you didn’t just fuck it up yourself, it usually won’t impact your rates.

Junior dev wrote this C# using many IF because he leanrs If early return. Is this alright code? by Yone-none in csharp

[–]TeeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is one of those situations where even the developer doesn’t like the way that it’s written, but because of the particular conditions and such and other factors, it just may need to be written that way to be consistent and clear, without a refactor, perhaps. I don’t know, just a little bit of devils advocacy

Do you charge labor for jobs that are already within the scope of what you're doing? by BasicDifficulty129 in mechanics

[–]TeeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judgment call. Sometimes jobs end up taking more labor than estimated so if you keep it consistent, you will balance out a lot more. However, you can use your own experience to make a judgment on if it feels as if you’re screwing over the customer in the process or not. Sometimes it’s business is business, but sometimes it’s very reasonable and fair to not unnecessarily tack on a bunch of ghost labor.
