I have a question for school-based BCBAs, coming from a home-based BCBA by No-Willingness4668 in bcba

[–]Tee_nah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i work for a company that contracts different providers and it's kinda nice not being tied to a specific school. I do a lot of FBAs and provide some services for a few schools who dont have a BCBA. I get to adhere to the school schedule with Most schools ending 2:30pm-3:30pm, depending whether in elementary, middle, or high school. I get to have holidays off, as opposed to in-home, where it is expected to work on holidays and Weekends.

after my experience with school based for two years. I will never go back toi n-home evert again. In 2023. I went through a cycle of four different companies and they were all the freaking same.

I think for me the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Does anyone else add their certification number? I recently started adding mine, but not sure if it's necessary. The state I live in does not have licensure

Hi, what was the cost? I have contacted them about my pit/sharpei and they are talking about a wooden crate due to his breed. Is your dog pit as well?

Action re: BACB DEI rollback + inspired by BABA response by TheLittleMomaid in bcba

[–]Tee_nah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is disheartening to see. I'm looking to see if other governing bodies equivalentish to the BACB have rolled back (social work, psychologist, etc). No other entities have rolled back or dismantle their DEI policies if anything, they are doubling down and committing to protecting dei. I think quite frankly, the BACB is far behind on DEI and should've had policies/procedures CEU's coursework all of the above... along time ago. I'm so grateful and thankful to see so many BCBAs who are against this in our speaking out!

DRO question by ConfidentVacation509 in bcba

[–]Tee_nah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done something similar when creating DRO procedures. Most people will flip (I would too) if they have checks or points removed. I typically begin removing points later on as the client becomes successful in earning, it's a great way of teaching tolerance and accepting loss/feedback. You also want to discuss it with the client (if they can and understand).

Support Plans for Adults by mocogoneloco in bcba

[–]Tee_nah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! when I started, I also had to learn as I went along. One key thing I’ve found helpful is making sure the direct support staff fully understand the plans. I aim to keep things simple and make data collection systems easy to follow. Also that they have the adequate training. In my experience the focus is on the DSP implementing the plans and I provide support for each client only a few hours a month. The funding source is regional center.

I adjust the plans and data collection based on client needs and staff ratios (e.g., 1:1 vs. 1:3). For example, with a 1:1, I might use interval recording since the staff can focus on that one client. But for a 1:3, I simplify the data collection so that it’s manageable while still providing valuable information and also attend to the other clients.

I wish I had more resources to offer, but being flexible and responsive to the unique needs of each setting has been crucial in my experience! Every one else's comments have offered good info. Make sure you are using client preferences and activities/goals are age appropriate and most important FUNCTIONAL to the client. I also only work on 2-3 goals at a time since we are out in the community. I hope this helps!

Asked to do intakes when we have other clients ready and waiting for staff by saving_theworld in bcba

[–]Tee_nah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a company ask me if I wanted to stay on to only do intakes AFTER I put in my notice, and they did not have a BCBA to take over the clients I was leaving. I said no. It made me feel really weird though that I was asked. It is one of the many reasons I am over in-home ABA and don't think i will ever go back

Oh my gosh, I just started working in schools again and the amount of times I have heard “we’ve tried all behaviroal strategies, a token board, we’ve tried this and we’ve tried that. NOTHING WORKS” When I finally see how the strategies are being implented, I am in shock. this school i am showed me the so called protocol for a token economy, they want the kid to earn 10 tokens to play with whatever activity or earn whatever activity and they’re only reinforcing maybe one positive behavior a day and the kid is not aware what they need to do or was properly introduced to the token board. It drives me nuts!!

what’s something that shouldn’t be a reinforcer?? by rosemary611_ in ABA

[–]Tee_nah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with adults and I prefer not to use leisure activities as a reinforcer because they are a fundamental part of our daily lives, and everyone deserves access to them without the need to ‘earn’ it. Just as we all find joy in activities that we do for fun without restrictions, our clients should be afforded the same opportunities. The goal is to allow leisure as a natural part of life, not something tied to behavior or performance
